Sam & Max confirmed for Wii News

Wii News by Oli Welsh

4 April, 2008

After months - over a year, in fact - of speculation and fan demand, Telltale Games has confirmed that its episodic PC comedy adventures starring Sam & Max will be coming to Wii this year. Gamespot broke the news, and Telltale gave it the thumbs up.

Although Telltale originally said that it was the download services of current-generation consoles that interested them, it seems that the Wii Sam & Max - a port of Season One of the PC games, comprising all six episodes - will be a box copy "on store shelves". Dreamcatcher and The Adventure Company will publish the game in the US, and JoWood will bring the game to Europe - complete with French and German dubs, and Spanish and Italian subtitiles.

The long-standing fan campaign for a Wii version was said to be a major factor behind the Wii release. More details are promised later today.

Sounds great to me, I'd definitely buy them as I never got round to playing them on the PC. Couldn't they have put Seasons One and Two in the same game though and why no PS3 or Xbox 360 versions? Surely their hi-def resolutions would benefit the game's sharp visuals?

Yay!

Played the first game of the season, never got round to dgetting the others due to laziness. This should work well on the wii - Zack & Wiki was great litle adventure game, and it should be as good if not better than that!

@Darren - because the PS3 and the 360 controllers would be rubbish for a point -n- click adventure game, whereas the Wii has been practically custom made for that sort of thing.

Not really, you don't need to use the controller exactly like a mouse. E.g., if you had buttons to cycle through interactable hotspots, or "magnet areas" when you get close to them, etc, it shouldn't be a problem at all (probably would even be easier than pointing something at the screen all the time). It's not as if finding these spots is supposed to be the challenge anyway.

Being able to cycle through interactive hotspots would feel a lot like cheating, at least to me. A big part och point-and-click adventures is finding what to interact with. And how (see Zack & Wiki for a great example of how this can be taken to a whole new level).

Don't want to be negative, but isn't it telltale's big dream to bring episodic gaming to the masses. Why have they made no attempt at all to aim their products at the i-think-of-gaming-the-same-way-i-think-of-putting-on-a-dvd crowd and

A) make lots of money
B) change gaming for ever (a little bit :) )
C) be the only people selling this type of content in this type of way

i can imagine that the xbox controller might be slightly less comfortable to use than a pointer, but not enough to not take advantage of the massive potential of live and psn. what the hell are they doing??

Aside from that, yeay!! i'm genuinely over the moon about this!

"Why no PS3 or Xbox 360 versions?"

Because both of those platforms have a decent online service that would suit episodic downloads. I assume that's what they'd rather do on the Wii as well, but the Virtual Console is a bit crappy.
