Sakura for console Street Fighter IV News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

10 October, 2008

Capcom has confirmed that Sakura will be another character appearing solely in the console version of Street Fighter IV.

She's the Japanese schoolgirl fascinated with Ryu, which leads to a very similar fighting style. She also wears a tiny pleated skirt and a bizarre sailor top.

There's a brand new video of Sakura in action, plus shots for those keen on stationary images.

We were also given a meaty and exciting Tokyo Game Show trailer for SF IV this week.

Street Fighter IV is due for Xbox 360 and PS3 in Japan sometime before March 2009.

There's no date for Europe, but SF IV will be one of the headline acts at the Eurogamer Expo later this month. That means playable.

Why gimp the PC version slightly. Does someone pay them to do this, or does it save them much money? I don't really get the thinking behind it.

Sakura really cheapens Ryu, due to the need for game balance, doesn't she? I mean, he's supposed to be a guy who has been training for years, who travels the world looking for suitable opponents to test his strength against, and yet some jailbait schoolgirl who is obsessed with him is just as good a fighter as he is?

I think they mean the home version, rather than the arcade version. I'm sure the PC version will have identical content to the console versions.

Well that's good news if true, thanks. I should have known EG would just not mention the PC version one way or the other.

Sakura is probably my favourite charachter mainly because of the her fireball beating faux dragon punch.

As for the pervy side of things, I thought Japanese games developers, manga artists and anime artists were bloody perverted for always sexualising school girls by giving them such short skirts etc. Then I lived in Japan and realised they were actually being pretty acurate. That said it's not that suprising from a country that has "compensated dating", "Hello Kitty" branded vibrators and worn knickers vending machines.

Yes, sailor fuku is very common as a girls school uniform in Japan. It can hardly be considered as bizarre.
As far as the moe factor goes, no comment.
