First game was AWFUL! How did this get a sequel???

  • Triggerhappytel #2 4 years ago

'Cause it sold well off the back of a lot of hype...?

Anyway, stylistically this reminds me a lot of GTA4 - is this how the first game looked? I'm sure it will be half-decent, although may not fare so well in such a busy year for city-based sandboxers.
  • t8yman #3 4 years ago

It was strangely popular, loads of people on my friends list were playing it. totally over my head though.
  • Antwandemarco #4 4 years ago

I thought it was kinda immature and fun. Terrible story and characters, but fun game mechanics :)

"First game was AWFUL! How did this get a sequel??? "

Ok, are you really really serious?

Did you actully play the game?

    I bet you didn't.

It was actully quite fun and the multiplayer modes were great.
  • superted #6 4 years ago

If the game looks like that i'd be amazed... photoshopped to pieces, them.

The first game wasn't too bad. It just was a total rip off of GTA.
  • CaptCastle #7 4 years ago

I actually prefered the first game to the various versions of GTA. It just did a lot of things better.

Hopefully this will be as good.

The first game was brilliant. multiplayer modes were great too once the lobby system found a game.
    Hope this is as good/better.

In Saints Row 2 the whole game will be in Co-Op. Take that GTA4. SR was ok. But in coop it will be much more fun kinda like Crackdown but with lots more to do.
  • S.J.Rogers #11 4 years ago

I love SR and still play it till this day.

SR 2 is on my list..!
  • Avaloner #12 4 years ago

Got Saints Row from the bargain bin and I love it. In many ways it is better than GTA. The fire fights are definitely much better and its hard to go back to the console versions of GTA at this point. So what if they stole many of the ideas? Its a win win situation for us gamers.

    @LetsGo

Actually, being a big fan of GTA and the style of game it created, I was stupid enough to pay good money for this game so yes I played it.

Frankly I felt it was a buggy and clunky poor mans GTA that offered nothing new and with none of the humour of that series. Sure it had multiplayer but for me that didn't improve the actual game in any way.

Playing SR just made me wish for GTA.....and my wish came true! All hail the real king of the street!
  • convercide #14 4 years ago

I liked Saints Row. Never play it online though. It's awful there. It lacked the humour of GTA but was still solid to play and had the Insurance Fraud missions.
  • Monkey_Puncher #15 4 years ago

Saints Row was buggy? It was nowhere near as buggy as any of the GTA games! It improved on a lot of the mechanics of GTA games and was a lot of fun. The story and dialogue was for the most part completly awful, but other than it was good fun.

Definetly the best GTA clone around, I'm sure GTA4 will blow it out of the water but I'll still be picking up Saints Row 2.
  • agparrot #16 4 years ago

This is a game about a street gang?

Looks like Prison Break meets Blue Thunder meets 9/11, from the screenshots.

    Bring it on!
  • Snooz #17 4 years ago

    Bazooka screens seem mandatory nowadays.
  • kangarootoo #18 4 years ago

I rather liked Saints Row 1.

It did something better than GTA, things that GTA should have fixed aeons ago (decent mission restart mechanic and an aiming system that isn't shite for starters).
  • DUFFMAN5 #19 4 years ago

The first game was brilliant (AWFUL, what are you talking about bad09)
The best GTA, well lets be honest! apart from VC
I'm looking forward to this as much if not more than GTA
  • LetsGo #20 4 years ago

"It did something better than GTA, things that GTA should have fixed aeons ago (decent mission restart mechanic and an aiming system that isn't shite for starters). "

    Quoted for truth.

To this day, GTA have never been able to get the 'on-foot' elements to play nice, Saints Row did it in one attempt....

    @LetsGo

"To this day, GTA have never been able to get the 'on-foot' elements to play nice, Saints Row did it in one attempt...."

and you ask me if I'm serious!
  • mkreku #22 4 years ago

    Sterilized graphics. Add detail, dammit!
  • TheDudesRug #23 4 years ago

I wanted to like it but I just found it tedious and also 'wanting GTA'. Also, I don't know if they did something about the tearing but that was horiffic. I'll pass on 2.
  • gmmonkey #24 4 years ago

NO MOTORBIKES, NO MONEY! I liked saints row but it lacked diversity. That's what makes gta king of the sandbox. Things like choppers, bikes etc. interesting landscapes and so on.
  • Royal Fool #25 4 years ago

I liked the first one, but I didn't save right before the final mission so it really pissed me off when the game ended... ick. Fun game, the whole gangsta/hood aspect just made it a laugh because it kept poking fun at itself. The game itself was a GTA clone, sure, but it tweaked and improved so many things that were beginning to age in that series.

This new game is set in the same city, but "transformed"... I wonder how they managed to fit the Parthenon in there.
  • jonsaan #26 4 years ago

I wish 'urban' gangster games would fuck off.
  • Machetazo #27 4 years ago

@gmmonkey: "Luckily,Saints 2 introduces a number of other getaway options , from nimble motorbikes to car crushing monster trucks. More significantly, planes and helicopters will open up the skies, while boats will expand the realm of street gangs into the water."

    Source EGM 221 - SR2 feature.
  • the_dudefather #28 4 years ago

GTA's humour is 2 things, the great and incredibly funny radio stations and dialogue, and lots of terrible juvenile sexual references (like 69 lolololol)
  • sport #29 4 years ago

    is this set in athens?
  • penhalion #30 4 years ago

Liked the first one, especially the ability to drive without crashing into pop-up cars every two seconds. Gunplay and store robbing was good. The safe cracking game, the carnage missions (blowing up trains!).

Yep SR1 was a solid little game. I think I'll be investing in SR2. I'll also be getting GTA but, I can't say I enjoyed the last one all that much. Too much driving around for too little gain. No doubt GTA4 will be generously reviewed by the press and all flaws glossed neatly over as usual.
  • Fab4 #31 4 years ago

I really enjoyed the first one...cruising the streets for certain cars and stopping everything whenever you spot one.
  • Melan #32 4 years ago

well hope it is more than hip hop gang fights.

I wanne be a real criminal
  • tinners #33 4 years ago

not gonna come close to the new GTA, co-op or not they improved on an old engine first time round, now its just gonna look dated and tired compared to the power of GTA
