Sagat and Balrog in Street Fighter IV News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

3 March, 2008

Capcom has confirmed on its official blog that Sagat and Balrog have been added to Street Fighter IV arcade machines in test locations around Japan.

The post links to home video of both characters, who are "not in their final form".

They are also not playable yet. Instead, "you can fight against them if the right conditions are met in the single-player mode".

The latest build also includes three new locations: Drive-In at Night from the USA, Beautiful Bay from South Asia, and Inland Jungle from South America.

The news comes a week after producer Yoshinori Ono said in a Wired.com interview that Sakura or Ibuki could feature.

At the moment, the roster is Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Blanka, Zangief, Dhalsim, Guile, E. Honda, new characters Abel and Crimson Viper, and of course Sagat and Balrog. Perhaps Vega and M. Bison aren't far behind.

You can read more about Street Fighter IV in our Street Fighter IV first impressions from GDC.

The game has yet to be officially announced for consoles, but even Capcom struggles to keep a straight face when it issues that statement, so don't be surprised when it pitches up on PS3 and 360.

I'll wait for the Super Hyper version then. With all playable characters.

Hope Vega is in there as well though.

In Japan Balrog is actually Vega. The boxers name is actually M.Bison in japan.

If you followed the link, you'd know its Sagat and Balrog as we know them. ie. "Big tall guy with scar on chest", and "Boxer dude"

yeah i read it now. The name changing is rather confusing though. Too bad Mike Tysons lawyers forced them to change the names for US and Europe. Vega is a much better name for the final boss. And what kind of name is Balrog for an american boxer.

Really quite bored of the whole Street Figher II II shtick. If you're going to include loads of old characters, at least dive into SFIII and the Alphas.

It was a no-brainer that all the bosses will be in (and I predicted a new end boss, too). This is confirmation of that happening, and the other two will show themselves soon.

Now this game needs to evolve further from the excellent facelift of SFII and show a greater variety of well-themed new content. They have made all the right moves so far, and I remain pumped about playing this until RSI forces me to stop.

Tiger! Tiger Upperrrrcut!
Ok, that's out of the way.
But yeah, awesome. Can't wait to see them in action. I don't expect our M.Bison to be in it since he was killed by Akuma at the end of Street Fighter II. But Akuma himself should be the last announced veteran character, which would be a nice touch.
Vega should make it too.
