Sacred 2 expansion still in the works News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Ellie Gibson

22 June, 2009

The planned expansion pack for Sacred 2: Fallen Angel is still in development, according to a post on the Ascaron forums.

"Studio 2 (subsidiary company of Ascaron) has the licence for Sacred 2 and the devs will continue working at the add-on as they did before," wrote community manager 'Anca Adelina Finta'.

"In a nutshell, the add-on is not affected by anything and will come as planned."

Original Sacred 2 developer Ascaron filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. Kalypso Media subsequently picked up the rights to its assets.

"Kalypso and the other devs will do something different with the old licences they bought," confirmed AAF. "I really wish them good luck with that, they deserve it."

There's still no word on when we can expect to see the add-on released, or which platforms it will be available for. The Xbox 360 and PS3 version of Sacred 2 hit the shops a few weeks ago - read our review to find out all about it.

I'm really enjoying Sacred 2 despite the graphical poorness. It's an honest game with a surprising amount of depth.

I'd rather they fixed lots of bugs first. Hopefully they will.

Agreed, although I've come to actually *like* the graphics. Certainly not mind blowing but the variety of locales makes up for it. Addictive as hell.

Lutz: you have a little group?

I've been sucked in I have to say. Rented the Ps3 version but then bought the 360 version as thats where my mates are... Kind of wish I'd gone for the PS3 one sometimes though as there seem to be more problems with the gfx on the 360. I'm really not one to complain about tearing normally but sometimes it makes me feel sick on the 360.

That said I do love it... every time I stick it on for a quick blast I end up still there several hours later. And you can beat co-op with the missus in front of the telly whilst inviting Live friends in at the same time... oooer.

The game is great imo. I dont care about what most other reviewers like to whine about (no originality? Heh, last 2 decades haven't been original). It's a great followup on the DII formula. And co-op split screen is just awesome. The evil campaign is also very .. evil and another slipup by the review of EG, if you bother to read the often funny stories with the quests, you'll notice it does have an impact on the quests which side you take:D

Here's hoping the expansion will make it to the consoles as well, if they finish it. If Sacred 2 sells well on both consoles we will probably be seeing S3 and the expansion for pc and hopefully for console as well. Since they will have a fresh stream of revenues then. They've already started work on it a while ago, so it's more yes than no.

Also I think Ellie is wrong here. I read in different places that they weren't bankrupt, but filed for some german govt. protection programme and sold a few franchises (but sacred) to keep their head above water.

And the expansion needs some area with only dragons, or that insane levelling area of the expansion of sacred 1.

*edit* PS3 version seems to work fine to me. No bugs whatsoever, did hang twice but that's over 30 hours gametime. But the map, quests, items all seem to work okay. Nothing gamebreaking at least.

Unique mounts are awesome! I love my HE (insanely low regen times can spam Blazing Tempest and take out ANYTHING :D

And because I'm so fragile the mount can get me away quickly :D
