Ryzom reintroduces subscriptions News

MMO PC News by Oli Welsh

7 January, 2009

Following the resurrection last year of French science-fantasy MMO Ryzom and a few months of free play, a subscription charge is to be reintroduced.

The price has been cut since players were last charged, making it one of the cheaper subs games on the market - and the game itself is free to download. UK players won't see much of a saving thanks to the current weakness of the pound, however.

The new rate is EUR 7.95, USD 10.95 and GBP 7.75 for a month's subscription, with the usual reductions for committing to three, six or 12 months at a time.

Check out Log's adventures in Ryzom, which we published late last year, for a fresh take on the strange little MMO that refuses to die.

If I'm paying a sub, I'd rather pay for one I actually have friends that play, and is renound for being good. I'll let you guess the most liekly candidate there.

Rysom was supposed to be good in its day. Offering more depth than the average mmo at the time. Im surprised to read this today as although i knew Rysom had a core following of pure die-hard fans, i didnt know it had enough of a population to support a pay-2-play model. :S

When i tried it a few months ago i only saw like 1 other person.

Why doesn't anyone introduce a pay per play MMO. Say 1€ for each 10hours (as well as a monthly subscription for those who play a lot). It would surely attract a lot of players who decide to give it a few hours once in a while.

I believe that this is the model that WOW uses in China

This game just isn't good enought to warrant a subscription. There's too little content. Certainly not anything above £1-£2.

With so many good games on the market I'm opting out of this.
