Rock Band will be affordable
Harmonix dismisses price cries.
Harmonix art director Ryan Lesser has said the developer is doing all it can to keep Rock Band affordable, GamesIndustry.biz is reporting.
Rock Band is being published by MTV Games (and distributed by EA) and will work with four instrument-based controllers: bass and lead guitars, a drum kit, and microphone. A price point is yet to be set, and questions have flown about whether we'll need the whole lot to get the most out of the game - and if so, whether people will be willing to buy them.
But speaking to GamesIndustry.biz Lesser said, "There's no way we're going to make a game that people are not going to be happy about buying. We scrutinise every little piece that goes into every peripheral to make sure that it's affordable and still really high quality.
"I think when it's just rumour and no one has anything tangible to hold on to, people can be afraid - but the fact is we're very conscious of it, and we're doing our best to make it awesome and affordable."
He also dismissed rumours that a Rock Band set would cost between USD 150 - 200, which emerged after a forum poster claimed to have taken part of a focus group for the game. The scamp.
"Seeing as one of my specific orders was. 'Don't let anyone know anything about pricing,' I can't imagine that was true," he said. "Because of a lot of reasons that I can't talk about, but we're far from releasing prices at this point. So I wouldn't take any of that stuff too seriously."
Look out for the full interview with Ryan Lesser on GamesIndustry.biz next week.

I also want to know whether it'll work offline, with four musicians on the one console. Online bands are all well and good, but it'd be a shame if you couldn't have band practice in your house with friends.

>>Too many buttons? You'd only need 4 buttons for a bass and no tremolo.
The buttons represent frets not strings, but yup the no trem thing is a fair point, it still seems faily pointless though to me to ave guita and seperate bass, unless they simply want to make money out of peripherals...but then who's going to get a bass? no one likes playing bass, unless you're a girl of course and can't do anything else! (that last bit was a joke OK, before you all think I am a freak)

No way could it be that cheap. That's just £5 more than what Guitar Hero 2 costs along with a single guitar.
If they sell it for between £50-70 with an initial guitar, and sell the other items separately for prices around £30, I'd probably bite.
Then again, since it's compatible with existing GH controllers, I doubt they'll make the mistake of forcing a game/guitar bundle (or a game/everything bundle).
Heck, by the time Rock Band comes out, Acti will hopefully be selling standalone 360 GH2 controllers, so I'll only have to buy the game, a microphone, and the drum kit. Works for me.
