This is an argument for next-gen.

Assuming next-gen equals features such as internet multiplayer, downloadable songs and a high resolution interface so you can support 4 different games on one screen.

I showed my mother a video of this, and she told me to buy one for her whatever the cost. It was a shame to have to tell her that it wasn't out yet.

"Whilst my guitar gently bleeps".

The author deserves a pay-rise for that.

You walk on your wife with another man? At the same time? Does this hurt her, or are you and your co-walker very light?

edit: maybe walk is a misspelling and it should have been wank. That'd make more sense.

@lost_soul: you're obviously joking, but the intent probably was to say "the kind of timing where I walk IN on my wife with another man".

He also probably meant "... but I don't NEED/WANT to stare at them", and "Brian Maiden" works better as a pun name than "Brain Maiden" (unless he pronounces "Iron" in a very peculiar way).

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned so far is whether or not the multiplayer component supports a number of players other than 4 (i.e. if I get two mates round, do we need to find a 4th online somewhere or can we just rock out offline?). This article suggests 4 are indeed required, which would make the multiplayer much less appealing to me.

Just kidding, Zastai :-)

But yeah, Rock Band: is it current gen. only? There has to be a PS2 version, right?

I think disc's first post answers this question...

Hey I just saw that the Rock Band dev team will attend a live chat on Xfire next week: http://www.xfire.com/cms/xf_music_week_h... It could be cool to get a direct hold of developers for once.

I know Guitar Hero made me take up the guitar for real, but I still enjoy Guitar Hero because playing the 10 chords I know :P is not the same feeling yet as nailing a song on hard. Plus if you can really play the drumms along to a song that is brilliant!

You see, she likes to have this sort of crazy new thing to show off at parties. In the past, this has included flamenco dancers, a chocolate fountain (before they were popular, DDR, Singstar and most recently Guitar Hero. It usually takes a while to get the older party-goers to sing or dance or whatever, but they get there in the end.

Now, while I'm sure a set of real instruments would be far better musically, what can a bunch of middle-aged, drunken office workers do with those? There would be noise, sure. Some of them might know how to play an instrument. But the non musicians wouldn't have all that much to do. With Rock Band however, they all join in. They're pretty bad at it, but the music is still coming out of the TV, which makes them feel like they're playing something. Which is what makes the difference really.

Misspelled 'Brian'. Brain Maiden sounds like a Japanese dating sim.

Reviewer needs english lessons. I still don't quite get

'I have the kind of timing where I walk on my wife with another man and I'm left handed.'

and 'Brain Maiden' is just lazy.

All I want to know is:

1) Is the tambourine function of the mic optional; i.e. can one person play guitar/drums and sing. If the tambourine is manditory and you get penalised for not doing it, that's a bit rubbish.

2) For the online, can you turn off vocals... I'm obviously going to give the online a go but I don't want to have to listen to some bloody 14 year old screeching. I can't see the vocals being that popular online if you can't. Also, it'd be nice if you could turn of sending your own vocals to everyone else, too. I can imagine a lot of people would be reluctant to sing in front of strangers (whole different kettle if you're playing with friends of course).

Apart from that, this game looks amazing and I will be buying it no matter the cost.

Are all the instrument peripherals packaged together or do you have to buy them separately?
