Rock Band 2 to get Red Hot Chilis' album

Blood Sugar Sex Magik DLC.

MTV and Harmonix will be adding the Red Hot Chili Pepper's 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magik to Rock Band 2.

Xbox 360 owners will be able to download the songs tomorrow for 1600 Points (GBP 13.60 / EUR 19.20 ), while PS3 fans will have to wait until Thursday. Those with the game on PS2 and Wii will get the songs eventually on a retail disc.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik was the album responsible for rocketing the Chilis to worldwide fame, and includes hits "Under the Bridge" and "Breaking the Girl". "Give it Away" is another, but was already included in Rock Band 2, so will not be available to download.

Good choice of album, if you ask us. Here's that tracklist in full.

  • The Power of Equality
  • If You Have to Ask
  • Breaking the Girl
  • Funky Monks
  • Suck My Kiss
  • I Could Have Lied
  • Mellowship Slinky in B Major
  • The Righteous & The Wicked
  • Blood Sugar Sex Magik
  • Under the Bridge
  • Naked in the Rain
  • Apache Rose Peacock
  • The Greeting Song
  • My Lovely Man
  • Sir Psycho Sexy
  • They're Red Hot

after promising to release decent DLC, Harmonix have finally bothered living up to that promise (with the exception of some of the pixies songs)

edit: fucking hell just looked at it again, this is unbelievable stuff! will this work on RB1? otherwise getting excited is absolutely pointless

Load of old cobblers! I'd only be interested in playing Breaking the Girl. Oh well, likewise Rockband or Rockband 2 only?

DLC is cross-compatible so it should work in RB1, sure.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #5 3 years ago

I appreciate the effort but I just can't stand RHCP. Most overrated band EVER. That said so far the Rock Band DLC has been pretty good and full albums as DLC is fantastic as well.
  • jambolio #6 3 years ago

Yeah, RHCP are the musical equivalent of friends. They are bland and non-offensive so people can stick them on knowing that people wont have serious problems with sticking them on.
  • Carrybagma #7 3 years ago

Hang about - if you own the album already, you still have to pay £13.60 just to play along with it? Am I missing something here? (Not having played RB)

I'd vote for 'Aeroplane' as my favourite, jolly-sing-along RHCP song.

Music In "Not Appealing To Everyone" Shock.

Love this album. If it works with RB1 I may just get that now just because I can play along to this album. But may have to wait and see if GH gets it too, because they also already have one song from this album, so who knows.

Hah! That's exactly how I find them. Well put.
  • Thalanos #11 3 years ago

@jambolio - Have you heard Sir Psycho Sexy? It's not exactly bland or inoffensive.

I'm surprised Blood Sugar Sex Magic made it into Rock Band with some of its lyrics, compared to some of their more commercial recent stuff anyway. It would have been my choice, but I didn't expect the guys in suits to think the same.
  • DDevil #12 3 years ago

I would love this, but I can't help but feel it's too expensive. I don't want to spend £13.60 on an album that I've already owned for years. I understand the work behind it all, but still...
  • cockbongo #13 3 years ago

Hah, this should be great. Wonder if the crowd will start singing along to the best bits of "Sir Psycho Sexy" or if it'll be bleeped out..

"I stuck her #### with my big black #### - she said "what's up?" Now #### my ####"
  • chanderzz #14 3 years ago

why has there been no queen on rock band yet? Its perfect for it, awesome drums, great bass, shredding guitar and fun to sing along.

They should put the best of queen volume 2 on there.

    on compatibility:

It definitely works for RB1, as well. All DLC is designed to be playable in both versions of the game. You'll miss out on one track if you don't have RB2, of course, (since it's on-disc) but the rest should be enough RHCP to get you through the next weeks.
  • Toothball #16 3 years ago

Nice release. It's a pity one of the songs isn't available on the first Rock Band, but that won't be a problem for all that much longer I'd hope.
  • metalnut #17 3 years ago

I'm amazed that EG hasn't picked up on this yet, but RB2 will be out in November in the UK, on 360 at least. Microsoft have been advertising it over the weekend.

And this isn't a hoax, I saw it on 'real' TV last night.
  • curtlikesmeat #18 3 years ago

This'll be just like the time they released Nevermind as a full album! Oh.
  • sharky_ob #19 3 years ago

Love this album so very much, this is the Peppers at their funky best, and not in any way bland like the more recent stuff.

Will get it, but I'm gutted that I'm moving into a second floor flat this weekend, which will severly limit my drumming time! Don't want to upset my neighbours too soon.

No they're giving it away now.

cool, now I won't look weird playing bass naked. Er...

    Please see this...

Friends... Damn! I must have missed that episode

One of my fav bands and one of their best albums. I would definitely be getting this except for the fact that Rock Band isn't even out yet in Australia!!! I had to import my copy from the UK, however I haven't got access to any of the DLC as it is blocked in Australia :-(
  • sharky_ob #27 3 years ago

    @ Betty

Heh, Hillel and Jack look great with the sock (the ones on thier feet) and trainer combos.
