Rise of the Argonauts misses November
But Codemasters still aiming for Christmas.
Codemasters has told Eurogamer that action role-playing game Rise of the Argonauts has slipped out of November. The plan, however, is still to launch before Christmas.
That leaves a rather small window in early December - in a Christmas period already stuffed with two of the biggest RPGs of this generation. No reason was given for the hold up.
The publisher also explained there will be no demo, as chopping the sprawling story into pieces for the sake of a 10 or 15 minute sampler would apparently not do the game justice.
Rise of the Argonauts is in development at Liquid Entertainment for simultaneous release on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
As the name suggests, the story centres on Jason and his collection of Argonauts (followers upon the Argo ship), as they sail around mythical Ancient Greece in search of the legendary Golden Fleece artefact to resurrect Jason's murdered wife.
Liquid has taken the reinterpretation a step further than most, both in terms of the setting and the genre mechanics in use; most laborious RPG traits have been sidelined in favour of keeping the pace up and ensuring players stay immersed and not stuck in numerous menus.
There's an interesting and spontaneous combat system at the heart of the action, too.
