Rise of the Argonauts for UK in Feb News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

12 December, 2008

Codemasters has stamped a 6th February UK release date on action role-playing game Rise of the Argonauts.

Bizarrely, the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 game has launched around the rest of Europe today. The UK missed the boat because of retail shelf-space problems.

"It was quite literally a retail issue," the publisher told us in a statement. "We tried to get the game into retail here in the UK in line with everybody else, but they simply could not offer us the shelf space that the game deserved at such a busy time within the retail sector.

"As a result, we decided to hold back the UK launch of the game until we could get the shelf space we believe the title deserves."

Rise of the Argonauts launches across the US on 16th February, and Continental Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa and Australia today.

Rise of the Argonauts follows the adventure of King Jason as he sets sail around Ancient Greece in search of the Golden Fleece, a legendary artefact that can bring his murdered wife back to life.

And he's not alone; along the way various famous faces from the mythical past will join his cause: Hercules, Achilles, Pan and more.

Developed by Liquid Entertainment, Rise of the Argonauts has also tried to discard many of the time-consuming aspects of traditional RPGs, in favour of a streamlined, un-broken experience.

The result will be something we think sits between Titan Quest and God of War. We're still very much in RPG land, however, with loot to pick, skill-trees to climb, dialogue to navigate and characters to customise.

Head over to our Rise of the Argonauts gamepage to find out more.

The UK and US release are bound to be pushed for the Q1 2009. The European version is out today (german, french, spanish, italian and english languages included from what I've seen on the official forums). But UK also gets a late release for King's Bounty - The Legend (though the Nobilis release has english language included and it's labeled as the EU version). Lately, UK seems to join the Australia in the matter of release dates, thing that I'm sereing as at least odd...

This is a pretty smart move, because this way they avoid reviews from all the major gamerwebsites, since they are mostly based in the US and UK.
I suspect one dud of a game.

Found 2 reviews which were around a 7. To sum up the reviews in a very short way, it's ok but it's not the great game it could have been. BTW the US getting the game 16th of December. So there might be some more reviews coming the next few days, hopefully.

Man, yeah, when there are no English reviews out, us gamers in lesser countries have no chance to find out if a game is any good.

the gameplay movies suggest this might be unpolished at release. I'd wait for a bunch of reviews before buying....

Indeed, we're all thankful for the mighty US and UK websites. God bless them all!

(Should we tell him about all the Dutch, French, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Polish etc. etc. game websites that are out there that he obviously doesn't know about because he doesn't speak those languages and so, naturally, they don't exist?)

looking forward to it. Yesterday I stumbled upon some chap in some forum saying it's dated and got some weird design decisions, so I'll hold my quid for now

I am totally looking forward to this. It looks like the hugely ambitious premise will probably be marred by some slightly rough-edged production values, but basically Titan Quest + God Of War = Holy Shit I'm Buying This Game.

If the game is any good then it wouldn't need the 6,000 shelves needed to ram it down your throat!

I've played it for a few hours now, but I really don't like it.

Controls are buggy, ingame loading makes it look like it's lagging, it even crashed three times while I played it. Faces of the civilians all look exactly the same.

The story is okay though, but that's about it imho.
