Rings MMO beta details

Stress test this weekend.

The European beta of Turbine's Lord of the Rings MMORPG Shadows of Angmar will go live tomorrow, 13th January, the developer along with publisher Codemasters announced this morning.

You can sign up on the official website, and if you get involved this weekend you'll be part of the game's first stress test, described as a "major milestone" by producer Jim Brown.

"For the first time we will be allowing tens of thousands of people to join the game and test every aspect to the absolute limit," he explained. "By introducing a great number of new players to the beta, we will be able to gather valuable information on performance of our hardware."

Overall they want over 200,000 to have a crack on Shadows of Angmar before the game launches this spring, and to that end we're also told that beta accounts turned on during the stress test will remain active throughout the beta programme. So, head over to www.lotro-europe.com for more info.

Im already installed an ready to go!

Give me something to do pre-BC :)

EDIT: I've had my application in for this beta for ages though - i didn't realise they had just opened the gates for everyone? Or is there still a selection process in place?

In short: a WoW clone with prettier graphics (IMHO) but not as good. It's a decent alternative to WoW or EQ2 especially if you like Middle Earth.

if you are formatted with fat32 just use fat32 to ntfs convert which is part of XP.
oh and delete the old file before downloading again

What I like about this game is that it has never had any pretensions or "vision" (unlike some other MMO game that went into beta recently), other than simply being a fun and accessible online experience in middle-earth. Graphics or gameplay may be nothing ground-breaking, but if it's fun, playable on a not-too-hign-end PC, and has a good LOTR atmosphere, then it's good enough for me!

I recently participated in the Vanguard beta. I must say that that game sucked. And not because it was a beta, but because it was so obviously love-less. Uhm.. difficult to explain, but everything felt so generic, like a machine had made the surroundings, the quests, the names, everything.

I'll try entering this one too, just to see what it's about. Hope it's not as annoying as Vanguard (where I downloaded something like 10 GB and it installed 17 GB on my hd!).
