Respawn promises big reveal at E3

"Stay tuned," say West and Zampella.

Update: EA has said that the Facebook was a fake.

Original story: Respawn Entertainment is set to announce some big news at the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week.

That's according to the Facebook page of Vince Zampella and Jason West, the chaps who set up Respawn after getting the boot from Infinity Ward.

"Big time announcement at E3 next week," reads their latest status update. "Stay tuned, kiddies!"

So what are West and Zampella up to, exactly? Why not mine our recent interview with the pair for clues?

How the hell can they have enough to do a big reveal already, weren't they JUST canned? Something doesn't seem right here. If it's an FPS there is no hope.
  • LondonSquare82 #2 2 years ago

My guess is a story driven emotional adventure like heavy rain. Scene 1 features 2 guys (lets call them Mr Best and Mr Zampollo) being interogated by a man with a pitchfork, red horns and a tail sitting on piles of money (for arguements sake lets call him Robert K) in a room with no windows, and the only light comes from the demonic glow in his eyes.

The announcement is fake, and the Facebook account, sourced by this article is fake as well. If you look at one of their updates it says "thank you to everyone who became a fan! spread the news and let's get as many people aware at how selfish activision is as possible. the support means a lot!" an unprofessional shot at Activision, and most of their words that need to be capitalized aren't.

  • adofessex #5 2 years ago

They don't even have a website yet, I would be surprised if they have anything to demo at E3.

    I reckon it's Modern Warfare 3 for Acti. :)
  • LHH #8 2 years ago

    @PatAU

    spot on! lol

Probably a FPS called Duty Calls or something tongue in cheek, or at least that's what I wish.
  • reinhart_menken #9 2 years ago

@LHH: That's actually exactly what I thought Respawn should have called their company - Duty Calls. Big eff you back at their former employer.

Complaining if their next game is a fps is kinda stupid. It's what they're good at. It's like moaning about how Mitchell and Webb only do comedy.
  • AnsemsApprentice #12 2 years ago

Well not really, because comedy can go in many directions, it's a multi-faceted thing. A FPS is a FPS, only so many things you can do before the formula gets stale, and comedy has been around much longer too.

    Dedicated Server: The Game.

It's an intense FPS where you battle enormous douches like Bobby Kotick and FourZeroTwo that want to finish PC gaming. Zampella and West backstab you at the end of the game.

Modding and mapping still not allowed.
  • ignatiusjreilly #15 2 years ago

    @PatAU

Some devs just want to make money. FPS is the most profitable genre for big budget games, and it's what they know best (they've never done anything else, ever). I'd be very surprised indeed if it isn't an FPS. A third-person shooter would be the most different I could imagine.

    My guess is

Call of Nature: Does the Pope shit in the woods ?
  • TheTingler #17 2 years ago

Not a chance of this happening, unless it's like this.

They haven't even got an office yet, so it's impossible for them to have a game. Not even a title. I agree with the posters above - it's fake.
  • kiroquai #18 2 years ago

Mall of Duty: Cod 'N Warfare - a strikingly realistic FPS set inside Freshney Place Shopping Centre, Grimsby, in which two warring fish and chip shops go to extreme lengths to take out the competition.

Will be the first game to feature the F-Max, a lethal nuclear fish bomb capable of incapacitating even the most sturdy of fishermen within a 10-mile radius.

I hope they don't steal the good plots presented in this thread. That fish market one sounded like it could be made into a tycoon as well.

Is it going to be a game about making a fake facebook page to fool games journalists on slow news days?
  • ignatiusjreilly #21 2 years ago

So is it a fake page or not?

Hundreds of news/blog sites are running with the story, although experience has taught me it only takes one of them to make a mistake and the rest all copy.
  • Shikasama #22 2 years ago

Theyve also become fans of Not Buying COD: Black Ops. Alongside of publicly calling a party they are in an active lawsuit against 'selfish' on Facebook.

I sincerely doubt the legitimacy of this.
  • higganos #23 2 years ago

Maybe with EA being all "new-age, good guys" and shit, perhaps they might offer Respawn an outlet away from CoD and the cookie-cutter FPS bollocks? I mean, they have MoH on that front.

Would like to see the team try something different from their normal output. A highly stylized, non-scripted, action/adventure/shooter or something.

    Something innovative please for Chrissakes...

Kiddies? Wow (and lol) at Eurogamer for thinking that Facebook page is real.
  • iamtheoneneo #25 2 years ago

Stay tuned kiddies - looks like they made mw2 for the right audience after all then shucks
  • JimmyHart84 #26 2 years ago

Whenever the first Respawn game comes (not at E3, I agree with others that this page looks as fake as they come), wouldn't "Beyond the Call of Duty" be a good title? A real phrase that's used, plus a dig at acti. Hopefully it wont be anything like COD though.
  • LR100 #27 2 years ago

Respawn would be wiser to avoid any cheeky digs or games similarly titled to Call of Duty or Modern Warfare, lest they wish to feel the wrath of Kotick and his lawyer army.

It would be very surprising if that is really them, considering some of the things they link to on the site... hopefully Eurogamer have done the proper thing and checked this out for its reliability, cause from what i can see, i would be very surprised if this was them.

If it is them, then i am very surprised as its not what i would expect... I await with baited breath to be proven rightly or wrongly.

Yawn, another shooter on the way.
  • Nighthaunter #30 2 years ago

    Oh Eurogamer..... You silly kids.
  • Zaltan #31 2 years ago

    Modern Warfare 3 surely.
  • reinhart_menken #32 2 years ago

Does Eurogamer just get news source from anywhere now? :p
