Resistance 3 trailer reveal at gamescom?

Insomniac newsletter teases fans.

Insomniac Games has teased fans with the possibility of a Resistance 3 reveal at German gameshow gamescom this month.

"It's been a long road since we launched Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time to your rave reviews last Fall. While we haven't had any new game content to show you since then, that's about to change in a big way," an Insomniac newlsetter read (posted by GamesOnSmash). "And yes, we realize we're announcing an announcement, and that we announced this newsletter announcement via a Twitter/Facebook announcement earlier this week. We feel a little bad about announcing the announcement of an announcement – but on the other hand, you're excited and so are we.

"With that, we're happy to reveal that we'll be announcing our newest game sometime between now and the Penny-Arcade Expo over Labour Day weekend. We're really excited to finally reveal this project, and we couldn't resist being the first to share the news with you. Even bigger news is that newsletter subscribers will be the first folks to see the trailer: the instant we announce the game – we'll be blasting a newsletter with the trailer for you to view at home."

"Couldn't resist", eh? How appropriate.

Gamescom takes place from 19th to 22nd August, and provides Insomniac with an ideal platform to show the world a trailer for a new game.

The Insomniac newsletter goes on to mention that Insomniac will actually demonstrate a new PlayStation 3 game at the Penny Arcade Expo. Whether these two games are the same is unknown. Could there be a Resistance 3 and a new Ratchet & Clank game?

Sony offered Eurogamer "no comment" this morning.

However, the whistle may have been blown on Resistance 3 already. Back in October 2009, a billboard advertising Resistance 3 was spotted on a Battle: Los Angeles film set. That movie belongs to Sony Pictures' and is due next year: perfect timing for a Resistance 3 advertising campaign.

Insomniac captured headlines by signing a multi-platform publishing deal with EA Partners earlier this year. It's the first time Insomniac and Sony haven't worked together in years. Having said that, Sony owns the rights to Resistance and Ratchet & Clank, which means any new instalments in those series' will be for PlayStation platforms.

Could Insomniac be big enough to handle three games at once?

    Awesome. Another crap game.

^^ Very trolly, R series is better than most shooters, including gears which was just slow. Loving Transformers at moment (360), be a player, not a fanboy !

Resistance 1 was kinda old skool and actually a good shooter at the time.

R2 coop was a great idea, good engine, 100 baddies on screen and big maps, but if you only had 2 players the guy playing the medic had crap guns.

Note to insomniac, to do coop, yes you can have upto 8 players, but dont GIMP the experience for 2 players only...and nobody wants to be just a healer witha crap second gun.

The pot and kettle are both calling you black!!

    ^^

I did not say gears was crap, just a bit slow movement wise, I gave a reason for it. Try playing UC2 PS3 or especially Transformers 360 and then put Gears in, and come back and comment.

Gears 2 seemed slower than Gears 1.

Resistance 2 8 player co-op was pretty cool. looking forward to the third one although this could easily be the multiplatform game they're working on.

This is great news and about time. Personally I think R:FOM was the overall better experience. R2 improved the graphics a little and introduced a very nice co-op but I preferred Single player on R:FOM and preferred the fully customisable Online games R:FOM offered.

I think R3 has to be something very special this time around and so long as they maintain the sense of 'good fun' that Resistance games oozed in the past then all will be fine.

R2's graphics looked very dated I thought and creatively it was obviously 'inspired' by Half Life 2 especially in the forest levels.
A new engine and decent storytelling could get it back on track.

I only just played and finished both Resistance games in the last few months, I loved them both. R1 is pretty old skool but I love the action and weapons. R2 was a slightly different but more polished experience, I wish they had kept the same health system from R1, hopefully it will reappear for R3. Hey and comparing Gears to Resistance is like comparing cars and motorbikes, you can drive them both but they are completely different experiences.

Yes Resistance was awesome /dancesss R2 is my fav game platinumed it as well
  • DUFFKING #10 2 years ago

Got a PS3 a few weeks back and didn't think much of R2 at all.
  • reverandglass #11 2 years ago

@jag10 I doubt they'd choose to make resistance multiplatorm now when only PS3 owners will have had the first 2 parts to the story. I could be wrong but I thought I saw the multiplatform came was a new IP?

Personally I can't wait for R3. The cliffhanger end to R2 was enough to hook me in for another game. 60 player online games were brilliant and the single player was cool too.
  • Negotiator #12 2 years ago

Trying to up stage Halo Reach? not a very good idea, not very good at all.
  • jag10 #13 2 years ago

    @reverandglass

i didn't mean resistance being multiplatform. they already said that's exclusive to ps3. i meant it could be the new multiplatform game they announced a while back. i know how i would take advantage of this situation lol.

Someone at Insomniac has been reading what CliffyB had to say about PR these days...

I look forward to playing a Resistance game......

    ....with Move.

Fuck me I hope this isn't another Resistance game. A new Ratchet and Clank (unlikely) would be immense, or a brand new IP that is a platformer as that's what Insomniac do best.
  • Widge #17 2 years ago

I’m just out of love for platformers though, I have no idea why. R&C looked gleeful but I just didn’t feel any joy when playing it. I quite liked my time with R1, it got a bit nails at points and then the entire experience was ruined by the time sink that was Warhawk appearing!
  • woodnotes #18 2 years ago

My biggest issue with Resistance was its complete lack of personality and originality. And considering Ratchet has TONS of personality, there has simply been no excuse for this.

Hopefully they're 1) working on something new or 2) taking their time on Resistance 3 to make it something special.
  • sir_smooch #19 2 years ago

Awsome. Hope this 100% Official. I loved the first 2 games and would deffo buy the 3rd as i thought R2 was an improvement over the first. This can only be better still surely.
  • Kenshin001 #20 2 years ago

I thought R:FoM had originality and personality. It was set in England, had an interesting narrative and weapons and a whole alternate history backstory. The wheels fell off in R2 when they went for a COD/Halo vibe and an incoherent, listless storyline. The second game should have been darker and weirder, Chimera herding humans into concentration camps/conversion centres and towns full of converted hybrids still with vestiges of humanity etc.

I think a Sony studio is working in conjunction with Insomniac games

R2 did have nice water effects, but not as much fun as R1
  • Goodfella #23 2 years ago

Like others have said I loved the first game but the second didn't do it for me, in fact I quite disliked it in parts and found it frustrating.

I'll happily buy a third game though as long as it improves on the second, and I trust Insomniac to do so.
  • drumbaby #24 2 years ago

R3...please let it be so. I've been back playing R2 co-op online again the last few weeks, and am now itching for some more Resistance related single player.
  • tnt_2008smum #25 2 years ago

    @Geordiemp

I've completed Uncharted 2 several times and it’s brilliant but I don’t see what it has to do with your comment that the Resistance series is better than Gears or the fact that no one even mentioned Gears in the first place. It’s all a matter of opinion you know.
  • Scimarad #26 2 years ago

Very much hoping it's more FoM than R2...
  • infoxicated #27 2 years ago

I loved the original and the R&C-esque way you could select from a bunch of different weapons and get creative with how you approached it. Sadly I couldn't get on with the two weapon switching of R2 and gave up on it about 1/3 of the way through - was more like survival horror (Resistant Evil, if you will) than the clever gameplay mechanics of the first iteration.

Still, Insomniac are one of my favourite developers, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Resistance 3 will look & play like.
  • FuzzyDuck #28 2 years ago

Oh no, i thought both Resistance games were utter cack. Felt like i was controlling a floating camera.

Lots of love for R&C though.
  • woodyrulesok #29 2 years ago

    Loved resistance 1 and 2.
In fact I've clocked up more hours on R2 than any other game. Still playing it now in fact.
