Yeah, think Valve are dicks but HL2 is an amazing game. Looks fantastic, better than any UE3 game with their overdose of fancy tricks and horrible lighting. It's understated art direction makes the game world more realistic than any other (e.g. next to HL2 Bioshock's art direction and level design is a joke). It tells a story as good as gaming as a medium is capable of and the audio is great too (the Combine samples are almost as good as the Helghast ones of KZ1).

i think HL2 its a little bit overrated too, but still a very good game... FPS that i really enjoy playing, Crysis (PC), Crysis Warhead (PC), 007 Goldeneye (N64), COD 4 (Pc, PS3 and XFIXME), QUAKE 2 and, yeah ok, HL2.

Considering this is EG- it's better than GoW2- Wow, 360 fanboys hide their face in shame. Now that we know that Fable II is shit and that Fallout 3 looks just as good on the PS3 (actually better), and Killzone2 will trump them all. Mark my word.

no.. they both got 9/10 in one of the most unbiased sites around (which only a one eyed brand junky who's sadly missing a lot this gen being so blinkered could miss) because they are both geat.

oh and Fable 2 is awesome (how would you know as you'll neverplay it or open your mind enough to even try) and Fallout 3 is quite a bit worse on PS3.. having the choice of both means we don't have to make shit up to feel better.

i didnt expect this after the non showing of resitance 2 in eurogamer's top ten games in their expo in london.
the beta was cerrtainly more colourful and i had hoped for a good single player campaign.... 9/10 = must buy for me!!

The Resistance 2 beta is fun but there are too many dumb fucking noobs who can't start an 8 player co-op game. Seriously, how stupid are you to not actually start a fucking game you fucking created? Twats! Anyway, as I said, when there aren't fucktards creating co-op games which they won't start, the Resistance 2 beta is quite fun when you got a decent set of players.

Anyway, I'm back for my 2nd beta of Killzone 2. This game rocks.

I dont care about MS at all. If Sony made the 360 it wouldnt make a difference. I dont say MS is the better company so im not defending them. You got it all wrong. I actually thouth the PS3 was going to be the best console this generation, but that didnt happen. Gamers that own both consoles do prefer the 360 and says a lot imo. Im just annoyed that so many gamers actually believe the PS3 is better just because its a Playstation. Theyre wrong thats all. Its still a very good Blue ray player i believe.

how about owning all three and having real choice? stops you having to dismiss a rival console at everychance anyway.

So good console + bluray player = win to me. Especially if you do have an HDTV, enjoy BR movies, wireless media and games all in the one box. I really don't get why having bluray seems to equate to being a bad thing. If the 360 had bluray in it that would be an awesome bonus in my mind. Ok, would equate to being more expensive but to be fair, if I was to buy a 360, I wouldn't be buying the bottom of the rung cheapie option.

Do the higher spec 360's have wifi built in now? Not up on my facts and not looking for some trump card factoid, its just that and the BR in the PS3 really tipped the balance for to me when I bought.

I agree but if having the best quality games and online service matter the most the choice is quite clear as of now no matter what kind of games you prefer. Case closed. Next generation it might be different.

If the games you prefer are not in that set of "best quality games" then it's not clear is it? No single system has an all encompassing set of "quality games" covering everyone's preferences. So lets just leave people to their personal choice and let it lie eh?

Love the no wireless on 360 arguement, surely anybody with sense will wire either console anyway.

As mentioned, both consoles are great, neither has an exclusives line up which is any better or worse than the other.

Value for money is very subjective:

Out of the box playing games: 360
Out of the box playing games + bluray: PS3

Personally I still don't own a PS3 as I can play bluray already and have a decent gaming PC+360, so to me personnaly £300 to play a few exclusives just isn't worse it right now, blu-ray would help if I didn't already have a player.

There is different consoles, games and prices to suit everybody, as long as people can justify to themsleves why they own (or don't own) certain consoles then leave them to it, if you are happy with what you have it doesn't mean everybody else would be.

I'm shocked, after playing the beta I was expecting something like a 7/10. Obviously eurogamer.net are biased sony fanbitches and hate the 360(I'll have to get this game now).

I can't slap a wire across my front room, don't want to pull up the carpets and wireless is suiting me fine. I don't see the problem? I play on my PC and laptop using wirless, I stream media with wireless. Its all great in the wireless camp! If I bought a 360, I would have to buy wireless, in my checklist its something I have to consider.

If anything its been adopted faster than DVD ever did - Fact.
Steady increase in sales of hardware and movie studios releasing a lot of back catalogue.
Sub £200 players. My first DVD player was £300 in 1998.
By 2010, if you need to buy a replacement DVD player it'll be Blu-ray there for increasing market penetration.
Upscaling (I have a Denon for this) though nice, just doesn't replace missing data and still has all the crap that DVD pictures contain. Do not be fooled. Upscale DVD is no match for 1080P. Not even close.
Mass market HD (1080p) download is way off and the fact of the matter, joe public likes goods in hand. Movie download has not followed the success of music down load yet due to the front end being a PC.

Bluray is around till the next physical media arrives, which isnt needed yet.

The only thing that is poor about Bluray is the cost of the films on the high street. Online is the way to go. Except for when HMV do there 2 for £30 deals which covers most films except for the last months releases.

Comment on wired vs. wired. - My Broadband router is not in the same room as the console, so I have to use wireless. Online gaming seems ok. COD4 is variable :-)

Interesting points on the wireless/wired thing, there is no denying that wired is the best option but wireless has got better, personally I would rather run cables than use wireless but I can see its advantages.

I was more going at the angle of you don't need a wireless adapter for the 360, but I can see how some people do need to consider it, it really should be closer to the £20-£30 mark by now.

To me the PS3 has the opposite problem, I would rather they take £100 off the price and remove the wireless and blu-ray (yes I know the blu-ray isn't that simple), I think its better to pay less then pay for extras you want than have to pay for extras you don't need.

The main reason I own a 360 and not a PS3 is because the 360 was first, and the fact the PS3 still costs more than what I bought my 360 at (a good while ago) and doesn't do anything better on the games front means I can't justify it (to myself or my other half), if I couldn't already play bluray then I could use that as an excuse.

Since then I have realised PC is the way forward anyway...

I suppose it's the convenience of putting the game in the machine and it actually working without any sodding around. But hey, I forgot; Sodding around with settings/drivers is part of the fun, right?

I had little interest in this tbh..... Now yet another bloody game that needs to be bought.... LBP, Fable and Fallout already bought -Gears today and now this - not to mention Mirrors Edge next week! I dont remember a time when there was quite so much quality in such a short space of time...... Bloody Hell ... The next few months are looking pretty occupied..... :)

yep it was in response to that comment, mainly because its from a "who needs wifi?" perspective. I'm standing up saying I need wifi because it was being disregarded as not necessary or a pointless addition.

If you don't need wifi, then its a needless addition in the PS3... all back to the whatever suits your needs principle, but don't disregard it because you personally don't want it. The same thing winds be up with people regarding bluray ability as unnecessary and therefore a useless addition.

So as I say, its not so much a "this is a factual reason why one is better than the other" angle I'm going for, more of a "don't dismiss out of hand what you put no value in to". Plus half of the insistence on plus and negatives on hardware setups is mainly some sort of defence mechanism from both sides.

If you want an average, go to Gamerankings. If you want an opinion, read a review. That's all there is to it.
