Half-Life and its sequels have fantastic stories but they're conveyed in a completely realistic way rather than via 10 minute cutscenes. I can see why someone would mistake a game without cutscenes for having no story but in this case they are completely wrong. It's like saying BioShock didn't have any story either and that is not right either as it tells a story in an equally effective and believable way without the need for lengthy cinematics... well apart from the last scene that is which is a cutscene!

I totally agree, but I haven't actually seen any 360 owners shitting themselves (not in the same vein as the Sony fantards, i.e. "F*** this site OMGZ So teh bias, I'm never comin backz innit blud!".

ha apolo couldn't resist getting a quick list in, he's soooo funny!

The game looks good and while the first one was nothing special it did keep me entertained till the end. This is being added to my ever expanding list of games to get but with both gears2 and LBP coming out this week everything else has to be put on hold.

@ Half Life 2 discussion

HL2 was awesome all over to the max times 10. The narrative is conveyed in game, and from the ambience of the world itself. I got a pretty good idea of what had happened and what was happening simply from the jumpsuits, flying cameras and the still brilliantly-animated Alyx and co.

Hmm, I'm not so sure I'll pick this up anymore tbh, the lack of traditional campaign co-op is a big let down for me as me and the gf rather enjoyed that aspect of the first game. I couldn't quite gauge from the review if it even has a 'single console' co-op mode or if they're all online based. Meh, Gears 2 for me then.

"Naruto you say. I have tested the PS3 Naruto and the 360 Naruto sequel to the brilliant Rise of a Ninja. Trust me dude. Putting in Naruto as a positive for the PS3 was a mistake. " \

Are you batshit insane. Naruto on 360 was a simple fighter with no depth at all and kiddy platforming. I know which one I will be getting, the 360 version was a waste of 20 euro's. Had more fun with the one PS3 level demo than in the whole 360 game

"It's been a good year for the PS3 really... Devil May Cry 4 (multiformat granted but I preferred the PS3 version), Gran Turismo 5 Prologue (a tech demo for sure but still pretty decent), the superb Metal Gear Solid 4, MLB 08: The Show, Siren: Blood Curse, WipEout HD, LittleBigPlanet and now Resistance 2, a nice mix of genres there. Oh and add in the improved MotorStorm: Pacific Rift is that's your "thing"... most of the major bases are covered as far as exclusives go. I only really bought my PS3 for those exclusives so I'm delighted. I think the PS3 is a great all-round console and compliments my Xbox 360 nicely. That's more than I can say for my increasingly underused Wii however! :) "

I'll agree with half of those games, but its still a shit year especially considering Blu-ray is dying.
I find the more I play on the HD consoles the more I feel the need to play some Bright upbeat games on the Wii. After rush hour on on Friday its usually Mario Kart.

IHATEMARK@EUROGAMER has a point, how can we compare Resistance 2 with GOW2 if we don't know the size of the monsters? after all, they both have 9/10. Which incidentally makes them both shit now??! 10/10 is the accepted standard now?!!
back in university (oh the days) 7/10 was a first class degree. has that changed already?!

DEAR IHATEMARK@EUROGAMER

THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUESTION. THE SIZE OF THE MONSTERS VARIES CONSIDERABLY. MOST ARE MERELY HUMAN SIZED, OR PERHAPS A LITTLE TALLER. IMAGINE JEFF GOLDBLUM IN PLATFORM HEELS. THERE ARE ALSO SOME MONSTERS WHICH ARE BIGGER THAN THIS. IMAGINE IF BRUCE FORSYTH WERE TO SIT ON JEFF GOLDBLUMS SHOULDERS AND RAISE HIS HANDS IN THE AIR. ABOUT THAT HIGH.

OTHERS ARE VERY SMALL, BEETLES AND SPIDERY THINGS AND SUCHLIKE. THESE MONSTERS ARE USUALLY BETWEEN THE SIZE OF AN OLD LADIES HAND AND A MEDIUM SIZED WOK.

MOSTLY I THINK YOU'LL BE LOOKING FOR THE EXTRA-SPECIAL LARGE MONSTERS WHICH CAN BE AS BIG AS A BUILDING. A PROPER BIG BUILDING, LIKE IN AMERICA, NOT A SCOUT HUT OR BUNGALOW.

THE GAME ALLOWS YOU TO SHOOT BULLETS AT ALL OF THESE MONSTERS. IT'S RATHER GOOD FUN.

LOTS OF LOVE,

DAN

"Furies are indestructible aquatic creatures that patrol submerged areas killing anyone who lingers in the water - a fairly crude way of keeping you on track. "

Like in that poop-fest HL2, whenever you fell in the sea and tried to swim about? It was good in HL2 though, right?

Reads like an enjoyable game. Incorporating HL2 elements is never a bad thing IMO. Shame they made it more arcadey. On the other hand, if Guerrilla keeps the pace of KZ2 slow like the first one, they might be a nice set. Might even try out the MP this time though it will be hard to out-do Warhawk (at which I suck but still enjoy).

Not so sure about this one. The discussion of this game in the latest 1-UP podcast has rather put me off. Apparently the single-player campaign is really short (8 hours) and the impressive-looking set pieces are nowhere near as interactive as they would first appear (the phrase "animated sky boxes" was used). In general, the levels were described as soulless and the whole game simply a collection of other people's ideas.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but on the Littlewoods Direct site this game is £27.50, or if you spend over £30 delivery is free.

I preordered this and Motorstorm 2 last night and total cost for the 2 was £55.00.

@m0thr4 - "In general, the levels were described as soulless and the whole game simply a collection of other people's ideas."

Oh you mean just like Halo and every other FPS since? ;)

Seriously since when has the first person shooter genre being innovative? A lack of new ideas isn't necessarily a bad thing as it doesn't mean they're not fun to play. I mean Halo and Call of Duty 4 proved that. Even Gears of War wasn't exactly original since the cover tactic has been used in other games before that, it was just that it was one of the few games to put everything together into one neat little fun package.
