Resistance 2 gets solid UK date

LocoRoco 2 gets a TBC one.

Sony's semi-official UK blog, Three Speech, has published a list of first-party PS3 releases dates that puts Resistance 2 in our gun-hungry hands on 28th November.

The Insomniac-penned first-person shooter is out in the States next Tuesday, but until now Sony has been coy about confirming the exact timing for Europe.

The good news for you lot is that it has been less coy about giving us review code, which should enable us to bring you our thoughts around the time of the US release.

Also on Three Speech's release schedule are SingStar Vol. 3 and SingStar ABBA (both 14th November), and LocoRoco 2, which is down for 21st November, albeit to be confirmed.

For more Resistance 2-related fun, check out the Resistance 2 US TV advert we posted this morning. It's got a bit of gameplay in it, in case you haven't already seen it.

Not as much as all the other content on our Resistance 2 gamepage, though, obviously.

I need to hit the beta properly and see whether or not I'm up for this. All the previews and news I hear about Killzone 2 make me want to go for that, then IGN slapped a spanner in the works by giving this a 9.5. So there is obviously some merit in there, but up to me to decide whether or not I agree. Reviews = opinion after all etc.

    NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    A whole damn month.. :(

I wouldn't take IGN's reviews at face value they tend to over inflate their scores, well at least to me.
  • mkreku #3 3 years ago

Singstar ABBA in roughly two weeks! Lovely!
  • Triggerhappytel #4 3 years ago

@ Widge - to be honest, I would take the IGN review with a big ol' fistful of salt - it's an online exclusive review, isn't it?

From what I played of the two single-player levels at E2 over the past couple of days, it's a decent but unremarkable game. Apparently the online mode is getting really good feedback so perhaps that is its saving grace, however based on what I played I won't be buying it at all.

Killzone 2, on the other hand, was excellent. My favourite game of the show.

God, this looked generic at the Expo.
  • DanC89 #6 3 years ago

I dunno about you lot but the "2" I'm most looking forward to is LocoRoco 2!
  • Beano #7 3 years ago

    I predict R2 getting a 7/10 on EG

I think I'll wait for the awesome looking KZ2. I was half tempted to try this (wasn't that impressed with the first one) but after seeing KZ2 I'd rather wait for my alien FPS blood bath.

It does look like a mistake to move the action from the UK to the US. I've blown up America lots of times already, but driving a tank through Manchester was a lot more novel. Still, if it's got a decent co-op system again then I'll be a happy bunny.
  • Beano #10 3 years ago

    @Triggerhappytel : Try the online modes in R2... it's fantastic :)

I have been playing KZ2 online beta also - not so much fun, but I didn't like COD4 online either ;)
  • septimus #11 3 years ago

Not so bad a wait. So much to play anyway.
  • Widge #12 3 years ago

Yeah, all instincts are crying KZ2 for me! I heard a good few bods were really liking it at the Expo.

R2 looks alright, but christ alright just won't cut it with my wallet at the moment. I think I've got 5 or 6 games I've bought/pre-ordered this month, a few last month. I need some serious bank account recovery time.
  • Beano #13 3 years ago

Allready ordered R2 on US import... 24 days extra is just to long for me to wait ;)
  • drumbaby #14 3 years ago

    I can't wait for this....28th, ffs!! Play.com were right :(
  • muscleblade #15 3 years ago

I think R2 will be a great title for the PS3. Not as good as Gears 2 but still awesome. A "must buy" for PS3 only owners for sure. Better than MGS4 i believe.

Excellent. End of November is just perfect for me as there's Gears of War and MotorStorm: PR next week (with LittleBigPlanet mid-week), Banjo-Kazooie: N&B and Call of Duty: World at War the week after followed by a two week break before Resistance 2 comes out and ends a year of great game releases. I do want other games like Mirror's Edge and Tomb Raider: Underworld but I'm leaving them for the Christmas break or the New Year sales I think as I wouldn't have time to play them anyway.

I too am not a fan of COD4 (decent but short single player, overrated multiplayer which isn't as fun as any Unreal Tournament or Counter-Strike game, even Condition Zero) but the Killzone 2 beta rocked.

I will pick up Resistance 2 when it comes out (my wallet will kill me) as I'm sure the single player story will be good but I am most definitely looking forward to Killzone 2 more.

P.S. I actually enjoyed the first Resistance more than Gears of War, not that I'm saying it's definitely the better game or anything, just one I had a lot more fun with, particularly as I didn't like Gears' online modes at all. Resistance's online modes where fast, frantic and a blast despite the lack of originality. The R2 beta is bloody superb, especially the 60 player matches which makes Gear's 8 player ones seem really, really dull in comparison for me.
  • muscleblade #19 3 years ago

I think R2 might be what R1 should have been. And it got Trophies too. Im guessing 88-92% metacritic average.
  • chessboxer #20 3 years ago

I am annoyed that SCEE didn't commission the Collector's Edition for Europe. I hope there's a CE or LE for Killzone 2.
  • Beano #21 3 years ago

I'm also looking forward to GOW2 a lot... but only for the single player game which looks to be more of the same = a good thing :)

R2 I'm getting primarily for the online mode (the beta is a blast!) but I'm sure the single player campaign will a lot better this time around.

    Damn... November is gonna get busy and expensive for me... R2, GOW2, MS:pR, TR:U, Fallout3, GH:WT, RB2

Ive played R1 both singleplayer and multiplayer. Gears is a lot better in every way imo. Gears multiplayer is a lot more skill based (maybe thats why you didnt like it Darren?) than R1. Even though i think Gears 2 will be even better than Gears i think the competition between the two is closer this time around because i think R2 will be waaaaaay better than R1.

"The R2 beta is bloody superb, especially the 60 player matches which makes Gear's 8 player ones seem really, really dull in comparison for me".

I believe it's 5 on 5 for Gear 2. Still only 10 players total mind.

So, is it going head to head with Left 4 Dead?
  • Widge #25 3 years ago

If Left 4 Dead turns out to be good, I'm Steaming that mofo!

Play it at lunchtimes using the work network! ;)

"I actually enjoyed the first Resistance more than Gears of War"

Me too. I finished R1. I tried twice to get into Gears, but never made it past the first couple of levels. I just got bored. Each to their own I guess. R1 didn't have me by the seat of my pants the whole way or anything, but at least it kept my interest up enough for me to stick at it.
  • Darren #27 3 years ago

@muscleblade - Pah... the old "skill-based" excuse... just try putting that on your C.V. and see who treats that as a useful real-world skill? I play games for *fun* not because I want to brag about how amazing I am at games... I always find it amusing when people brag about being good at a particular game. I mean so what... it's just a videogame! :p

Seriously though, to answer your question... I just found Gears of Wars online modes crushingly dull but then I don't really find online shooters very stimulating or fun at all as they're usually very repetitive by their nature... shoot someone a thousand times over on the same bunch of maps over and over and over and over again. Zzzzzzzz!

While I might have enjoyed Resistance online, it was only in ten minutes doses, and it was the campaign mode which was the real reason for me playing it, especially in co-op. I much prefer story-driven games anyway with a beginning, middle and end so online games don't really fit my tastes at all except for the odd dabble when I'm bored and want a bit of mindless carnage. Resistance 2's 60 player battle look like just the thing - it's a hoot when there's dozens of people running around and a kill is just a few seconds away, there's no time to be bored - but I very much doubt I'll play it for more than an hour or two in total (if that). :)
  • butler` #28 3 years ago

I hear it paled in comparison to Killzone 2 at the EG expo.
  • Arwin #29 3 years ago

Same here, played through R1 all the way, got bored with Gears very soon. Don't think I'll even bother with Gears2, probably go for Fable 2 instead. R2 is a sure buy though. And Killzone probably will be at least 3 months later, so if that's good, then I'll get it too. ;)

    Lot's of two's!
  • Scimarad #30 3 years ago

Considering how much I loved the first game I'll definitely be getting this straight away. Couldn't really care less about the online, though.

It still mystifies me how some people consider R:FoM average and nothing special.

Liked the first game quite a bit, not in a small part because of the rock solid frame rate. Never went online with it though. Don't think I'll be getting it soon as I haven't even bought MGS4 yet... I'll finish LBP Story mode and a couple of PS2 games first before making a next purchase. Otherwise it'll just end up in the dust gathering pile.

Looking forward to KZ2. Liked the first, especially the slower, more tactical play style. Shame about the technical execution, though. See if they can do a better job this time. I really hope they keep it slow and don't turn it into a Halo clone.

I spent all of Spring and most of Summer '07 playing 1 hit kill CTF on the Somerset and Manchester maps on R1, and had a absolute blast doing it. If Insomniac follow the good work they laid down last time then R2 could be a total gem. No doubt it will get marked down for not being 'Gears 2 for PS3' but then the first Resistance got a critical kicking (I remember various magazines recommending CoD3 over it!!!) and I still enjoyed it.

I'll get Gears 2 for SP but R2 will no doubt have the better online experience, just so long as they keep all the customization options and host custom games on their servers.

"I play games for *fun* not because I want to brag about how amazing I am at games"

Being good and complete difficult challenges is amazingly *fun* both in games and in real life imo. Each to their own i guess.
