Resistance 2 about as long as first one News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

4 June, 2008

Insomniac's Ted Price has said that Resistance 2's campaign "should be as long or longer than [Resistance: Fall of Man's]".

Price was talking to Eurogamer reader Darren in our latest live interview, adding that, "We haven't timed it out yet but it's shaping up to be huge."

Darren had been fishing for a different answer though, having asked whether - after "the shortness of Haze and Call of Duty 4", we would see a more expansive campaign. "By the way," Price added, "I though COD4 absolutely rocked.

"I liked the fact that its campaign wasn't 10-15 hours. It made for a more intense experience."

Resistance 2 is due out in November.

Ooooooooooooo, I'm mentioned in an EG article... (in)famous at last! :)

Resistance: FoM was actually a very decent length for a FPS anyway but I get worried that the multiplayer mode takes priority over the single/co-op campaign and that we might end up with a short game. I'm sure Call of Duty 2 for example was a longer game than Call of Duty 4... I might be wrong though, it's been a while since I played the former...

"and that we might end up with a short game"

Resistance 1 had a good length IMO, was able to finish it in about a week (heavy playing during the weekend and some nights during the week). If it had been any longer I probably would have gotten bored and started something else and would still not have finished it... On the one hand I like games to be long to get my money's worth (irrational, I know). On the other hand that often means games drag at the end (even the otherwise excellent Okami was kind of a bore the last 5 hours) or that I don't finish them at all...

COD4 worked because the MP was so good, I felt the SP was too short but the MP added a lot of extra value to it.

10-15 hours is far too long for an FPS.

Nonsense. I completed R:FoM twice (to unlock multiplayer skins) and was entertained both times all way through. Wished a game like Halo 3 was longer that the 5-6 hours.

Beano: But Resistance catered for a second playthrough with new weapons as well. Not something many games do.

Anyways, good news. Don't understand why he felt a need to big up Call of Duty 4 there since their first game was much longer and it could be read like RFOM is only 8 hours long. And it played was like 12-14 hours for me.

Really looking forward to this one, same length would do a little longer would be better.

More varied co-op would rock from a height.

Roll on November.

try making it not too boring...

I would have liked halo3 to be a bit longer, because I was enjoying it a lot, but resistance got a bit repetitive and dull towards the end, only make it the same length (or longer) if you can make it more involving / varied than the last one.

A crap game can end up being pretty good if it doesn't outstay its welcome. Not that resistance was crap, it just didn't live up to what was expected.

I loved Resistance FoM and it took me around 18 hours to complete and I didn't feel like the game was overstaying its welcome at all. For a launch game, it was surprisingly polished and slick and played very well considering it was Insomniac's first attempt at a FPS.

So err... this little bit of PR is to tell us that R2 will be a less intense experience than CoD4? I can hardly wait...

I think 8 hours is the sweet spot. Dark Sector, Gears of war and Halo 3 all had perfect campaign length imo. Theres always higher difficultys and the truth is most gamers never complete games unless they are really short anyway (im not talking for myself i always complete my games). Playing a game half way through is like watching the first half of a movie imo.

Insomniac's first game, Disruptor on the PS1, was also an FPS.

Resistance was a average at best fps. Only worth it on a budget price.
