Should have done what the 'clever' people did. Pretend to be in Japan, by creating a JAP LIVE account and download it. Alternatively, just download it from the tinternet. For the record, I wasn't impressed with the demo. It's Res 4 with 'knobs' on. Also, features some horrible tearing at 1080P. |

The co-op is a bonus I keep forgetting about. The game might be a bit escort missiony again, but at least this one isn't some useless bitch who can't use a gun at all.

Well, Chris Redfield, we are going to drop you into a potential shitstorm in the middle of a country in the middle of nowhere with next to no backup, the likelihood of swarms of T-Virus infected loonies and/or zombies and the real and immediate possibilty of you getting killed.

Once again I'm not hyped. I liked 4 and completed several times on cube and ps2 but For the love of god re-make Resi 2 on current gen or at least lets get back to Raccoon city. The trilogy or evil,2 and nemesis will always remain the rear survival horror, oh yeah and Code Veronica of course, so the quad of...

I tried the demo last week and it's very good. Mostly.
I say that because I found the controls very clunky after playing other third-person shooters like Gears of War 2... Chris Redfield feels slow and cumbersome in comparison. The controls feel a little dated IMO and only feel work when there's a few enemies onscreen. As soon as there's lots then it became an exercise in frustration for me. The real-time inventory system is a pain too... preferred the old-style one from Resident Evil 4 myself. Everything else is great though and the graphics are outstanding. |

its weird how the demo was japanese only when its a european demo. Everything is in english, with options for german, french, spanish etc etc
Good demo though. First part made me think same old same old - "shanty town" sold it to me, esp. when i could see the co-op working (splitting up to do this or that - or giving a character a foot up to a vantage point while you storm on ahead etc etc) |

a) yes, indeed there's some tearing
b) having to use the lt trigger to be able to shoot means you can only shoot standing still and zoomed in. Wasn't that problematic before but now with loads of QUICK zombies, very very annoying. c) Don't know if you can switch weapons with the d-pad. If you press Y though you get the menu, go to the weapon en select equip. d) EVERYTHING is in English. It's even called resident evil 5 instead of biohazard 5. Why it's a japan only demo is just stupid. |

You can and not just weapons. You can assign any usable item (health, for example) to either up, down, left or right via the inventory window. |

Yeah, I got this off a torrent site, really loved the demo, I agree with Darren about the controls feeling a little 'clunky' in comparison to Gears of War 2 but I don't find it frustrating, after playing for an hour or so, I found I got used to it and now really like the feel of it. Love the co-op as well, so the Mrs can join in and won't moan at me for playing it constantly, lol, I must admit though, co-op does take the 'fear' factor away..but it's still great fun, just a slightly different kind of fun...

Resident Evil 4 had a disgusting control scheme. There are actually a number of different control methods in Resi 5, including being able to aim with the right stick and move/strafe with the left. Still doesn't allow you to shoot while on the move but it's SOME progress at least.
As someone else said.. it's not much more than Resi 4 by the looks of the demo (by that I mean i've played it not watched it). Still as slow and cumbersome, but a little more fun. Might buy it for co-op! |

game's really nothing different from RE4. Same feeling, same mechanics, same movements, only with africans and coop. Your companion's AI is actually pretty decent. The only thing I didn't like was trying to rotate and move in such narrow spaces, it could really get annoying when you're surrounded by enemies and can't shoot. Other than that a solid 8 (for now)

I found the over-the-shoulder aiming to be really irritating. If you zoom in in a shooter you want to be looking down the barrel, not have the character far left of the screen with the aiming laser diagonally across your view. It makes aiming difficult, tiresome and long-winded. Other than that though it was enjoyable...

Most of you miss the point of a "bad" controle scheme.
Resi would lose most of what makes it Resi (originally a horror game meant to be scary) if the controls were like Halo or GoW. It would become a run'n'gun with black zombies. I think Capcom made the choice to tune down the controls (ie, make them less good) to make it a better game. This may be hard to fathom for people who grew up with the ps2, but please think one step further before you spew your disgust all over the comment section. Im not a big fan of the Resi games, but I do like em for what they are; Not an FPS/3p shooter.

Big fans of Resident Evil 4 are going to be severely disappointed with the life-span, and overall content, of this game I feel. Co-op is a completely unnecessary feature purely put in to keep idiots who constantly yell "GGGOOD GAME BUT NEDZ MULTIPLYR 4 ME AND DARKMASTER2K4 PLZ" happy.
Cop-op will prevent RE5 from being anything more than a "good" game, it'll not be superb, mark my words.

I agree with you, sadly. I hate co-op when included, or forced, in single player games, and I wasn't blown away by the demo, nossir. Add the fact it's basically a third person shooter and there's no scary atmosphere at all, and we have another decent/good next gen title ruined by stupid decisions |

ah dear. I loved loved RE4 but somehow this just doesn't seem to work for me. The controls just seem to feel clumsy with all those infected folks dashing about. Maybe I'll get used to it but right now it seems a bit tedious and frustrating rather than tense. Plus I hope the chainsaw decapitation is better in the release version, it's MILES off being as good as the one in RE4.

Old. Played the demo last week. Lovely when played solo, A riot in a Left4Dead kind of way when played co-op. Aforemention screentear at 1080p, but that's what the PC version is for.
Definitely looking forward to this. |

I'm not sure how a system that simply allows a human to replicate the AI's necessary assistance in certain situations, just more efficiently, counts as a terrible thing. Don't like co-op? Ignore it.

I agree. RE4 was clunky as hell so to not improve on that was silly. For me 5 is total rubbish. I even gave it another try because it is Resi but my good what a dull game 5 is. (I'm sure many will disagree and think it's great) Interest in this has been steadily falling anyway with more and more footage but after finally trying out the demo for 5 RE is dead to me now (well except for the wicked CGI movie, which at least has some zombies). I may still pick it up cheap 2nd hand just to run through the story next year but not excited in any way now sadly. RE4 was a good shooter four years ago but things have moved along in the 3rd person shooter world Capcom and sadly, no matter how pretty it is, from the demo it looks like you haven't. Stick to Survival Horror Capcom you're good at that.... |

This is off my to buy list now. As I've mentioned before (and now a lot of you are seeing for yourselves) this is just a re-skinned RE4. If you are happy with that, then good on you. If however, like me , you expected more than a simply re-skinning you'll be very disappointed.
At this stage I'm even willing to bet the demon shop guy makes a re-appearance! |

didn't get the message in the first place! Just torrented the file, stuck it on a CD (content directory at the top), unplugged the xbox interweb, stuck in the disc and played it from the games library.
