Resident Evil 5 still top in UK charts
WWE and GTA in top ten, MadWorld 34.
Resident Evil 5 clung onto top spot in the UK All-Formats Top 40 this week, although Chart-Track says sales dipped 52 per cent following its impressive first-week bow.
Interestingly, the highest-placed new entry this week is WWE Legends of WrestleMania in fourth, rather than GTA: Chinatown Wars for DS, which only manages sixth. Chart-Track states that sales were around half what the last PSP outing, Vice City Stories, did in its first week on sale.
Keeping Resi company at the top of the pops once again, meanwhile, is Nintendo's evergreen Wii Fit, which the Capcom survival horror is now only outselling by a paltry 2.7 to 1. Tsk.
Nintendo won't be worrying though, with Professor Layton up to third, Brain Training back in the top ten at eight, and Wii Play (13), New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis (24), Mario Kart Wii (25), Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir (30), More Brain Training (33), 100 Classic Book Collection (38) and Mario Kart DS (40) rounding out its by-now-typical, but no less impressive, influence on the chart.
Capcom will also be happy to see Street Fighter IV back in the top ten, with sales up 48 per cent thanks to a retail promotion apparently. It's at seven.
The other new entries this week are SingStar Queen, which rocks up at 22, with SEGA and PlatinumGames' MadWorld only making it to 34, rather sadly.
Will Resident Evil 5 hang on for another week? The main contenders on 27th March are Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 for Wii, The Wheelman, Buzz! Brain of the UK, and PS3 versions of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Rock Band 2. In other words, we expect if it's going to be unseated, it will be by something already in the charts.

Bit sad to see Madworld couldn't make a better impact despite all the free press in the moral outrage papers. Still at least it will probably have a nice big price drop which I'll take advantage of.

.....so.....the wheelmans that bad is it!.....

Like GTA, MadWorld only has Friday sales to go on in this chart, against a full week for most other titles. Hopefully a slow burner like most Wii/DS titles.

1 day sales too.

Believe that RE5 have far better replayability due to egging you on to unlock everything, leaderboard and online modes. Worth having in my opinion as having a great blast of a time!

If you have somebody to play co-op with it's a must have, it may not be a traditional RE game, but it's fun!

After giving it some thought I think I will go ahead with a purchase of Capcoms latest

Anyway, having a lot of fun with Res Evil 5 on co-op, I'm not sure how or what improvements were made (if any) but it all feels slightly different from the slightly average demo :/

As for Madworld... that's karma, I suppose.

Can only agree with farticusmaximus though, the Dead Space control scheme would've improved RE5. But agree with Ninja_Tino that the game seems to account for the fact that the control scheme is anachronistic, and isn't too harsh.

What else did you expect. Gamers ignored 'Okami' too.

No 60Hz = no sale.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
You ARE aware that most modern games (especially on 360 and ps3) run at 30hz or below dont you? Hell, a heck of a lot of 360 games struggle to run at 20hz
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Moreover if they can't be arsed to put 50Hz/60Hz support, which more than likely costs them next to nothing, then I can't be arsed to give them my money.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
BTW, most 360 and PS3 games won't even display unless you have a 60hz capable display.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
So you are aware that running 30 frames per second at 60Hz means 2:1 refresh rate means smooth display, but that displaying 30 frames per second at 50Hz means ... oh, it doesn't go! 1.67:1 ratio means screen tear or motion artefacts.
So you are aware that in the not so olden days 50Hz meant that the entire system ran slower, and 30fps games on 60Hz displays ran as 25fps on 50Hz displays; are you not so sure that isn't also the case these days?
Hey, if those things are fine with you that's okay with me; but I prefer not to be treated like a second class citizen by the people I buy software from.

But most modern 360/ps3 games dont lock to the refresh rate - and just run at whatever rate the game runs at. Which is why you see a lot of screen tearing nowadays. Which in effect means that's the "hz" its running at (as it's ignoring the refresh anyhow).
As for the borders - it's running at the EXACT same resolution as 60hz, but pal is higher definition than ntsc, so you get the borders. So it's running at the same resolution on a higher definition display - and as such will actually look better than the ntsc version (fewer noticable jaggies). I've never understood the complain games have about borders on 50hz/60hz versions for this reason. In most cases if the extra pixels were filled in, you'd get lower frame rates (due to drawing more) - on top of the 50hz in the first place (which is partly why 50hz got such a bad rap in the first place).
But then you look at modern gamers - and they'll quite happily try to ask their 360 games (that are compatible) to run at 1080p as opposed to 720 - and ignore the fact the frame rate has dropped to get the extra resolution. So it seems strange to me to complain about 50/60hz (not that anyone really ever noticed the difference until shown badly converted games running side by side anyhow)
Lots of love - Smelly (who didnt actually work on any games back in the 16 bit era - and so obviously doesnt know what he's talking about)

Amiga titles made it pretty easy to develop for PAL's extra resolution but maintain speed; ah... them were the days.

"PlatinumGames' MadWorld only making it to 34...

True and I agree with where your coming at - but it is dissopointing for those of us (not me personally) that have Wii's only, as I know or im afraid companys are watching these games, watching how they sell on Wii even closer. And with sales like this company's may take less of a gamble on Wii and have it released on the 360 or PS3 nest time.
