Resi Wii reaches 1 million mark
Revamped games sell well, see.
Capcom has said over one million copies of Resident Evil 4 have shipped for the Wii across the world, GamesIndustry.biz reports.
Resident Evil 4 first appeared on GameCube in 2005 and has since appeared on both PS2 and PC.
Capcom also has numerous exclusive titles in development for Wii, including We Love Golf, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and Monster Hunter 3.
But it suggests the publisher is finding prolonged life in its past catalogue, too, following a recent announcement that it would recreate critically acclaimed PS2 game Okami for Wii.
Capcom has enjoyed continued success on the new generation of consoles, selling healthy amounts of new IP Dead Rising and Lost Planet on the Xbox 360. The publisher is also currently working with European and American developers to expand its success outside of its native Japan.
Pop over to our Capcom Gamer's Day 2007 Roundup to see what it has planned for the future.

The original in the series involved wandering around a mansion solving puzzles and things (albeit not very complex ones). As the series has progressed it seems to moved away from this and more towards blasting zombies.

Dave Mc Carthy's review reuined the game for many people. I'm surprised you can live with yourselves.

I've always suspected it's to draw attraction to the site by doing the odd sensationalist review.

And RE4 doesn't? Played chapter 3 & 4 much?
While its true that RE4 has more focus on action than puzzles, that doesn't make it any less of a thrilling action adventure.
For RE veterans like me, who hex and square cranked and (octagonal) valve handled things in some many iterations of the game, RE4 is a breath of fresh air. I like having to fight for survival at every corner, with backtracking optional rather than mandatory. It also means you get to push forward without pause, seeing new content all the time, which is quite rewarding and satisfying. I'm glad RE5 will be following the same path.
If you are more into adventure than action, you're better off playing the Alone in the Dark series - RE is, and has always been more about the action and cheesy B-movie allure. Or, you are still free to reach back and play any of the many earlier REs for your backtracking fix.
@Wayne:
No, mr. Mc Carthy probably didn't know how to use the WiiMote at the time and hence concluded RE4's control scheme was "broken".

I didn't play chapter 3 or 4. Mainly because the game was ruined for me by the fricking annoying quicktime event thingies. I mean honestly, Spiderman 3 had easier quicktime moments.
For that simple reason alone, RE5 is a rental for me. Unless I read a review all quicktime moments are gone.

I'm hoping Metroid Prime 3 follows suite, it certainly deserves to. I think I read that it had sold 750k before the European launch last week.

As with game controls, practice makes perfect. The rolling boulders and El Gigante parasite slashing had me too, initially. But, after a while, once you know the timings and inputs, it's not much of a bother anymore. Also, the infinite "Ink Ribbon" typewriters, the Continue Point system and the adaptive internal difficulty should be flexible enough to forgive beginning players while they get to grips with these encounters. Rather than having to repeat the chapter from the start, they can jump back in and try again while the system makes life a little easier.
It's a pity you didn't get to chapter 3 and 4. Those are my favourite parts of the game by far. "Muere muere muere..."
@triggerhappytel:
Sure. Capcom went crossplatform for some time, now, so there's no reason why they should ignore a large user base. Of course, what will happen to the game technically is entirely up to our imagination. A part of me is now thinking back to that Quake 2 thingy they did for the PSOne.

I know, I really really do feel like I've missed something out, but personally I really do disagree with some severe design choices on that game.
God Of War had some quick button presses, and annoyingly they changed. But I didn't have any trouble getting through the game in a few days. My main problem with RE4 was the boulder - which at one point I was concentrating so hard on mashing buttons I missed the fact the button on screen changed.
Ooh and the boss straight after. There had been a few occasions I'd looked up where to go / what to do, but FAQs didn't really help much with that boss. Combining action with QT, just made me think, you know what, I own games that are a lot less frustrating than this. Not gone back since. Like I said, shame though, because I do know many that enjoy(ed) it.

1,000,000 people seem to think so. Especially those of us who never played it first time round.
Looking forward to Okami for the same reason.

Well, I usually don't cover that kind of basic gameplay in my FAQs, because I assume the regular FAQs got it right so that I can focus on the more specialised stuff. Maybe this'll help if you ever decide to pick up the game again - I'd hate to see someone miss out on the best parts of RE4 because of quick time events (QTEs). Note that I'll use GameCube controls below as a reference - translate them to your version accordingly.
* Basics - QTEs are basically this: some input appears on the screen for a short period of time, during which you must enter this input. Now, RE4 has two variations on this theme: either you need to tap a button (A or B) repeatedly, or you need to enter the input (A, B, A+B, L+R, etc) once. In the latter case, and this is where people tend to make the most mistakes, take the time to see what the input is and only then press it. Far too often, the system will check your first input when the QTE appears, and if you're in a panic and are just randomly trying combinations at that time, you WILL feel the pain.
The tapping QTEs are usually quite lenient - if you tapped B at first instead of A for example, you can usually get away with it. Not always, though - see further below.
* Boulderdash: this starts of with a tapping QTE, where you must tap like a dervish on crack. You don't need to accelerate the tapping from slow to fast along with Leon, just tap away (this part usually isn't the problem, but the next one is). Once the sound of the rolling boulder changes and things become "quiet" (the boulder doesn't make crashing sounds, only rolling sounds), you've passed part one. Stop tapping, and watch the screen for a single input QTE. Once it's there, press the right combo (A+B or L+R). Wrong combo = You Are Dead. Depending on how fast you tapped in part one, you'll have more (or less) time for the single QTE in part two.
* El Gigante: there are various QTEs you may need to react to. I roughly categorise them as "during battle" and "parasite slashing". Surviving QTEs during battle is very easy, since El Gigante gives you ample time to react to them, and you ALWAYS have to press L+R. L+R at the right moment, that's it.
Slashing the parasite is harder. First, you have to Climb El Gigante with A. Then, prepare to quickly tap A, or B. Careful: if you enter the wrong button at the start, the colossus will throw you off his back immediately. He does not tolerate mistakes, so take the time to mentally note the correct input, then tap it before it's too late. If you get it right, you can slash him up to eight times if you're tapping A (or B) fast enough.
If parasite slashing is too hard, buy the Rocket Launcher at the Merchant for a mere 30000 Pesetas and fell the giant with one shot. I'll consider you a huge lamer if you use that cheat device anywhere, but that's just me of course =).
I'll stop here, because I do not intend to write a general QTE FAQ in a comments section. Just keep the basics in mind, and surviving the rest of the game should be easy.
Except for a certain scene in chapter 5-3. If you survive that, you'll understand why I laugh at the snail pace QTEs in God of War (2)

So the disappointment is understandable. Nonetheless, RE fans shouldn't deprive themselves from the great experience that RE4 is. A little variation now and then, especially when it's really well done, is a nice thing.
I should also note that (now that Mikami is gone, incidentally), several developers at Capcom have stated that RE4 and the Ganados is a "side story". They wanted to return to the roots, which is why RE5 features Chris, Sherry and Umbrella again. Perhaps this will attract some of the veterans again?

For me, that's a true indication of how good a game REALLY is.
a game may sell really well at the start down to hype and fanboys rusing out and buying it on day one. But you can spot a true classic if it's still selling months (or years) later - as people get it on word of mouth as to how great it is (or maybe have played it at a friends house and now go and get it themselves).

Sherry is long overdue an appearance and one hell of an explaination about what's been going on in her life, after all - she's had a shittier time of it than most. Her parents were neglectful, all her schoolfrieds are dead, the town is in ruins, her mother died being a bitch, her father turned into a huge mutant and implanted an embryo into Sherry, which Claire removed with some nice medicine, then Sherry got fobbed off into some military protection scheme whilst Chris and Claire fucked off to fight Umbrella leaving Sherry, who by this time must have enough issues to appear on the Jeremy fucking Kyle show, to deal with it all herself.
She'd also now be of legal age, but that's a sidenote...
