Resi Umbrella Chronicles ships 1m News

Wii News by Tom Bramwell

5 March, 2008

Capcom has revealed that Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles for Wii has now shipped more than 1 million copies worldwide.

The lightgun-style zombie shooter is the second Capcom Resident Evil game to do this on Wii, following on from Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.

The new game's success has given Capcom an excuse to reel out some big stats, reporting that the Resident Evil series - including spin-offs, of which Umbrella Chronicles can be considered one - has sold (important distinction) over 34.5 million units globally since its 1996.

Good news for Capcom, then, although as Ellie's we-haven't-pimped-it-in-a-while Guiness World Records Gamer's Edition 2008 points out, there's a way to go to eclipse the success of Mario, whose combined output had topped 145 million unit sales worldwide, including remakes, at last count.

For more on The Umbrella Chronicles, which Kristan gave 7/10 upon its release in November, check out the - oh balls, I've already linked it.

"Having taken a few left turns over the years with the various Gun Survivor titles, it's good to see Capcom come up with an on-rails game which does everything it should," he said at the time.

Erm... Umbrella chronicles isn't a port, and I doubt it's production has held back RE5.

If Capcom decides to do something similar to Umbrella Chronicles, I hope they can make the player stay awake considering how slow, dull and boring it is.

I really enjoyed Umbrella Chronicles, and Wii RE4 really set a bar for involving shooting controls, so whatever they decide to do next (except maybe - say - an RE0 port) will at least have a great foundation to build on.

I'm hoping for more spinoffs and side stories exclusive to the Wii personally, because a version of RE5 is just gonna get messy in all the wrong ways.

Well, good news for Capcom undoubtedly, only this will encourage them to whore the series out even more on Wii. We want Resi 5 next, you listenin' Capcom?

Maybe this is in no small part to this particular game being actually readily available in the shops and online.

Bit of a novelty I know, maybe Links Crossbow Training might sell a few more if you could actually buy the damn thing.

Shit like this sells but metroid 3 struggles to sell more than half a mill.

Gamers are weird.
