Resi 5 Xbox 360 Elite is Jasper

150W power supply gives it away.

Microsoft's Major Nelson has quietly confirmed that the upcoming Resident Evil 5 Limited Edition Console Bundle, announced last week, is the first Elite to use the new Jasper hardware revision.

One of the telltale signs of a Jasper, which sports a 65nm CPU and GPU along with 256MB of onboard flash memory, is that it comes with a 150W power supply, reduced from 175W in the previous Falcon designations and the monstrous 203W distributed with Xenon (originals) and Zephyr.

"Some folks have asked about the power supply," Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb said in his video unboxing of the new bundle. "The power supply is y... it's a 150W Xbox 360 power supply," he said, holding it up to the camera.

He also recorded that the manufacturing date on the unit was "January 16th 2009". Up to now, the only Jaspers in the wild have been Arcade units, and fluctuating stock levels and few external signs has meant it's difficult to obtain one without a savvy retailer's assistance or a bit of blind luck.

The Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 is due out on 13th March, and comes bundled with a 120GB hard drive, Resident Evil 5 itself, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, a wireless red controller, a black headset, and an exclusive downloadable premium theme.

    It would be nice if this article told us why we should care about this.

    I'm not saying that there aren't benefits (there are, obviously) but not safe to assume that everyone knows WTF the implications of a 65nm chip and a lower W on their power supply are, surely?

    Anyway, I'm keeping my "Xenon" (Who knew?) until the weather warms up

    You can get the Black Falcon for £179, it would probably take 4 years to save the extra (£40 for the Red one) in lecky bills.

    I've just ordered an Elite off of Littlewoods. I'm wondering whether to keep it in the box until I see a Jasper "in the wild" and then try and swap it.

    LOL i remeber when everyone was waiting for the falcon as there saviour from RROD, ill bet now that there are many reports of jasper RROD within 6 months.

    65nm is the tourque force which makes the RROD spin . its dead easy . what where you thinking !.
    less W . thats tricky . apart from the obvious . you should keep your PSU in the garden to keep the sensitive plants getting frost damage , not suppliment your heating system .

    EG get your facts right. There are 60gb Falcons all over the shop you just have to know what to look for. Sad that consumers are so paranoid of there console failing they look for the latest model

    Dont bet on it. You will loose. I think MS has learned from their only mistake regarding the 360.

    Only mistake? All opinions anyway lets hope its done once and for all. Hopefully it may teach them that rushing to beat the competition doesnt mean you have to make crap hardware and only admit to it when its blatantly obvious its a problem.

    Here hoping both MS and Sony's next console cycles are less littered with problems.

    I really don't like Rolls Royce, they look old. Then again, I like what I like. Arguing about what looks better is very odd. I don't like glossy black - yet again, it looks old - but I have no pretensions in saying other ppl are "blind" for digging that shite (is that the word?).

    I might actually buy this then :), Im hoping the photo is a little oversaturated, alot of things look better in the flesh as far as colour goes but its not a big deal.

    The main point is its a pretty good bundle at a good price, for me the important bits are:

    Elite with a as good as garenteed Jasper motherboard,
    The official HDMI cable with optical out support,
    2 Free games,
    256mb internal mem?,
    Largest hard drive for playing off the hard disk(prolong life of the lense and lessen the noise and load times).

    Thats actually a pretty attractive offer if you ask me. :)

    Yeah and "I'll bet" if there are it will be from sad twats that dont even own one, and before you say "why would they make that up" see bmxbandit, Rash', Apologie, Vic... well basically ALL of the PS3 fanboys trying to save the PS3 by means of trolling ;). I havent checked your profile yet but I dont really care your comment says it all for me... clueless.

    How the hell did the Resi 5 xbox turn to a PS3 convo... ah its Farty again, seriously you need to get out more or something. You really are making yourself look more of a muppet every day! The PS3 looks much better than the Xbox, though its fatter, it looks like a device that can sit under your tv, unlike the Xbox... seriously no one in their right mind thinks the external power brick is a good idea... looks like something from my Amiga days... Anyway, getting back on topic....

    I know its not in MS favour to mark the units up as Jasper (because they wouldnt shift old stock), but it would have been nicer for the general public in the know... I personally would have preferred to get a Jasper.. too late for me (got mine about two months ago), but I guess at least people now know for certain that the Resi unit is Jasper.

    I prefer the look of the 360 over the bulbus PS3. And you know Sony only put the AC adapter inside the case so they could do a redesign later and take it out to make it smaller like with the PS2 slim.

    I do prefer the shiny black though, it goes with my TV and stand.

    if you don't want to waste a fortune on a garish red 360 to get a jasper, I just bought a broken 360 arcade from a local games shop guy for £50, then on his reccomendation, went to Game in my home town, where they exchange broken base units/PSUs for brand spanking new ones for just £23, you also get a warranty with it. The one I traded was an old base unit, the new one had HDMI, internal 256mb memory and after getting it home realised I had a Jasper as well. Even after buying a 120gb hard drive and some ridiculous case mods it's still cheaper than an elite.

    Seriously pissed off...red elite bought today and the usb flap is broken and it has black mark over it

    This is brand new bought from gamestation and it was there last one...what to do? Seriously pissed
