Resi 5 Versus mode out tomorrow

Shoot friends for under four quid.

Capcom has just announced that the Versus mode for Resident Evil 5 will available tomorrow for Xbox 360 and PS3.

This multiplayer add-on costs 400 Microsoft Points (GBP 3.40 / EUR 4.80) on Xbox Live Marketplace or GBP 3.99 / EUR 4.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Versus comes with two game modes for four people to play online. The first, Slayer's Rule, is points-based and focuses on killing Majinis. The second, Survivor's Rule, has players face off against each other in either head-to-head bouts or as teams of two.

You can pick betwee Chris and Sheva, plus some secret characters we'll evidently have to uncover for ourselves. Chun Li please!

I might get this, thought the game was absolute class

List of games that don't suit adveserial multiplayer - Entire Resi series. That is all.

Though I suppose that Slayer's Rule might be alright.

This will be interesting. I'll see what the suckers think before I commit.
  • actionfitz #4 3 years ago

hmm. just picked this up yesterday.
    will wait and see too.
  • Benno #5 3 years ago

Wow, so now we have to pay for stuff that should've been in the retail version?
  • CableNut #6 3 years ago

I aint paying money to play this, this should of been in the game to start with.
MS and Capcom can suck ass
  • Bahamafish #7 3 years ago

Benno: No. You're paying or stuff that IS in the retail version.

Aaaah! Another comments page full to the brim with the same old pent up frustration that has littered every other page on the subject since this news broke several weeks ago.

I'm thinking 150-200 more comments to go yet, can't wait!!

(and yes, i know none of the above makes it any better that Capcom are doing this)

But let's be honest...most of you complaining were probably wise enough to shop around and pick this up for under the RRP, so another £4 will still bring you in under the RRP anyway. SUCK IT UP.

On the topic of the actual content and what's within it though, none of the unlockable characters are new, they're the same people you've played with in the Mercenaries mode.

Ugh... still can't see how this will work in deathmatch. Seeing as you can't move and shoot, surely everyone's just going to camp 'til the cows come home?
  • holloguts #10 3 years ago

First time I've heard of this. But then I always did think the Resident Evil games were one of the most overhyped under average series of games ever made.

So now they want players to pay for what is standard in other games. I'm sure there will be plenty of gullible idiots out there who will think paying extra for this is like a second birthday. It will be popular for 4 weeks and then it will be difficult to find other players.

I can't see this being a download, just something already on the disc you unlock. Sad!

So it's clear from the lack of interest in this article AND the number of negative comments versus one or two positive that the few people who bother to pay for what is essentially a patch will find that there is actually not one person online for them to play their new versus mode against.

The same thing happened to me with AO2. I was one of the few who loved the game. Lapped up the new DLC for it and managed to only ever play the new stuff twice online. Every other time it failed to find a game.

    Money well spent. NOT.
  • septimus #12 3 years ago

Wow, it would be utter crap. Stop, start, shoot, miss, arrgghh, run, swivel, aim, shoot, miss, yawn.

Anyone tried going through the game as Sheva yet and noticed the Chris AI is even worse? Gets in the way constantly, never take his eyes off her tits, even when running forward, and just generally is a pain in the ass. I though no AI could have been worse than the Sheva routines, but well done Capcom for out doing yourselves.

Got to the ship and couldn't be bothered to finish the game. I'm looking forward to the next proper Resi game...

Yes. It's definitely clear when you take one page on the internet and compare it to how many million copies it's sold.

    *slow clap*

Boring, Where is Resi 5's Assignment Ada? or Seperate Ways?
  • Hobo #16 3 years ago

"Boring, Where is Resi 5's Assignment Ada? or Seperate Ways?"

    Agreed with everything there.

Although for the final third of the game it just felt like Capcom wanted to just push the game out of the door, so i won't be holding my breathe for them to give us something like that.

Maybe we'll get some map packs for Mercs and Versus down the line...like Konami have done with Metal Gear Online, let us play some older locals from the series, the mansion, Raccoon City, places like that!!

The idea that Capcom would go out of their way to write separate AI routines for Chris and Sheva is delightful and nutty. I've been through the game several times as both characters now and there is no functional difference between the two partners.

Pay for more modes? Hell, after one playthrough I can't even be bothered touching the retail game again, totally uninspiring game, no wonder Capcom jumped in so quickly with "it's the last one!"! Still at least this time I actually finished it unlike 4 (switched to amateur at the last chapter tho, couldn't be arsed with it) .

I'm glad RE5 is out of the way tho I can go back and finish my replays Remake/Dir Cut/CV games now, and I plan to pick up a VERY cheap Outbreak I saw today. Playing the turd that is 5 has urged me to purge it from memory by playing as much Resident Evil as poss!

Nice one Raajaa. I cant think of any game less likely to make itself comfortable in multiplayer. Perhaps MGS?

How will this work? if people have upgraded weapons etc can they be used? if so I won't bother as a lot of people will have fully upgraded weapons and I can't be arsed to upgrade the ones i've got.
  • Hobo #21 3 years ago

You work with the standard weapon set.
  • ryohazuki1983 #22 3 years ago

Cheers hobo, might download it then, seeing as it's a few quid, although I agree with others that it should of been included with the game.
  • XdarXideX #23 3 years ago

It does sound a bit retarded given the shooting mechanics. But on the other hand this could encourage some forward thinking. Stealth, stalking and the use of traps (dangerous objects waiting to be shot)...

So it could be good after all. There must be SOME reason why they thought it was a wotrhy addition despite the obvious flaws.
  • Nithron #24 3 years ago

I think this could actually work, provided the levels are designed well enough and include enough cover positions, both things you can just stand behind, and stuff that actually uses the game's weird, limited cover system.

Oh, and don't forget sniping positions.
  • FortysixterUK #25 3 years ago

Yes , finally I get to pay for stuff thats been secretely hidden on the game disc all along.
    I think not little puppy.
    Twats.
  • Jasugun #26 3 years ago

Capcom is competing for worst DLC policy trophy. Making people pay for shitty SFIV costumes and some RE5 versus mode which all should be alreaady part of the retail games...
Competition for the worst DLC policy trophy will be tough but Capcom surely has some assets out there, and did make a very good start for 2009.
  • ruined #27 3 years ago

No way im buying this unless they reveal there are new mercs characters or some other value added content in it. If its just a co-op mode for mercenaries it is a rip off at £4
  • TheNinkyNonk #28 3 years ago

I just finished playing thorugh on the hardest setting last night - ALL ON MY OWN!!!

Well, I had to get human help to take down Jill, but the rest was done solo. Mucho Hardo.

So yeah, get some better players to review your games EG, instead of average Joes that dismiss it as a single player experience

  • ruined #29 3 years ago

Jill is actually pretty easy on professional. Use the grenade launcher with nitrogen grenades and she is stunned long enough to grab her. Just rinse and repeat and she is a doddle with AI or a human friend.

I really enjoyed the game all in. Mercenaries was awesome too, especially going for the SS rank on each map.
  • ObiChrisKenobi #30 3 years ago

God, I feel so stupid. The DLC is absolutly disgusting, the sad thing is Capcom won't feel ashamed of themselves at all. The gameplay just doesn't lend itself to online 'deathmatch'. Avoid.
