Resi 5 to get new multiplayer modes?

Trophy updates seem to spoil future DLC.

An updated Trophy list for the PS3 version of Resident Evil 5 appears to reveal that a number of competitive multiplayer modes will be added to the game as post-launch downloadable content.

The Trophies, spotted by Joystiq, are offered in game types called Slayers, Survivors, Team Slayers, Team Survivors and Versus.

Trophy objectives include "unlock all selectable characters in Versus", "defeat 100 players using physical attacks in Versus", "score at least 80,000 points in Team Survivors" and "chain a 20-defeated combo in Slayers".

It seems Capcom is opening Resident Evil's doors to full-scale competitive multiplayer, in addition to the co-operative and Mercenaries score-attack modes.

We've contacted Capcom for comment.

    Competitive multiplayer... interesting - will the control system be different for that? I'm not sure stop and shoot will work... unless you get to be infected - which could be awesome!

    I'd defend the controls to the end of the time, but even I can't deny they might not work in advererial multiplayer. You are at least all equally equipped, but I can't see it working. Unless some of you are the bad guys, with different controls etc like L4D. Well, I can hope, can't I :)

    Please shut the hell up about the controls they are fine.

    lol. What DFawkes said.

    Im in the 'it wouldnt be resi' camp if they changed the control style unless the game doesnt play well with the current stop and shot setup. If the game style changes (Resi 6?) then update the controls, theyre fine as they are at the mo tho. Multiplayer sounds interesting and if theyve looked at even one page in L4D's 'book' im looking forward to it!

    Prolly paid for DLC which unlocks the stuff already on the disc that you bought.
    God, this generation consoles and the money grabbing shenanigans demonstrated by games developers/publishers is really pissing me off.

    @Johnnywashngo

    Sadly as long as enough people are willing to pay for DLC devs will keep make what used to be bonus extras into DLC.
  • Steroyd #7 3 years ago

    Yet we can't assume every new DLC is already on the disc, the amount of paranoia from gamers with that subject is staggering.

    I'm not a fan of the default controls, but surely RE5's controls as they are aren't suitable for competitive multiplayer.

    Christ, I can only imagine what deathmatch would look like in ResEvil5. Chess with guns perhaps.

    @Coin-Op

    The review seems pointless to you because you have obviously lost all objectivity.

    Why is everyone trying to make this game a Gears of War Clone which incidently includes capcom themeselves. The controls are fine.Capcom has already messed up the SP due to Co-op and now peopple want to be able to shoot while moving.... might as well go play gears again.

    Couldnt care less about the multiplayer modes, again, seems like this is becoming another gears.

    @alimokrane

    Perhaps one if the issues is that Res used to be about puzzling, with a bit of zombie shooting along the way. But now it is very action orientated with no real puzzling to speak of, so Capcom themselves have pushed it towards being like Gears (which really, it is still nothing like).

    Well yeah, that's the origin of the problem anyway. Resident Evil 4 moved away from the formula but RE5 simply took things WAY TOO FAR. I think it's time for another Reboot with RE6.

    Why has there been no posts for 10 minutes?

    Might be fun. On a side note, weren't sure where to post this, but Fable 3 has been unofficially announced. On Jonathan Ross' twtter he twitted that he was asked to do voice work for Fable 3. Thw wonders of Wossy and twitter eh?

    Main Resi guy did say they were going to do a major reboot with Resi 6. I hope it's as dramatic and brilliant as 4 was to previous.

    Complaining about the controls... has nobody played a resident evil game before? It is supposed to be in the "survival horror" genre - all games in that genre were always stop and shoot remember? Yes it feels dated compared to action games like gears, but its like buying a jrpg and complaining about the turn based combat - its to be expected in its respective genre.

    As for the dlc.. well i just hope its not out in march..because for them to release so many new multiplayer modes means that its been worked on for quite awhile..which means theres no reason it shouldnt of been on the disc to begin with - in all probablity held back from the disc to sell seperate at a later date (ala street fighter costumes)

    I'm not sure stop and shoot will work...

    Since everyone else have to do the same then yes, yes it will.
