Resi 5 tops US software charts for March News
Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese
Capcom's Resident Evil 5 was the best-selling game in the US last month, shifting nearly 1 million units on Xbox 360. The PS3 sold around a third less to finish at four, according to NPD results for the month.
DS newcomer Pokémon Platinum followed at two, with 805,000 units sold. That's roughly ten times the units shifted by Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown wars, according to a Silicon Alley insider (spotted by Gamasutra). Rockstar's acclaimed DS debut is, nowhere to be seen in the top ten.
The other high profile new entry came from Halo Wars at three. New Baseball games MLB '09: The Show and Major League Baseball 2K9 finished at six and 10, respectively.
Also worth a quick glance is the March PC software chart, where Empire: Total War ends the four-week long reign of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. Blizzard is unlikely to be displaced for long, however.

Very dissapointing sales for Killzone.
That's probably because it's a terribly bland game released on a platform primarily used as a media player. Not at all surprising. |

But total sales are the same as KZ2 had 2 days in February and regarding Resi sales, Double the install base double the sales just a thought. If they do another 300k then 1m in US alon, is that not good? Still the sales werent great but the game is so thats all that matters and GG made a profit already on it so win win As far as read Sony said a higher percentage of PS3 owners are buying certain games not that they sell more on the PS3 than the 360

Looks like Capcom got themselves a winner with RE5.

Brand name matters a lot, even if it is a RTS. That said, I guess we could compare KZ2 to GOW1. Both games were hyped for their graphic, so it makes sense. Still, on a far smaller installed base (when GOW1 came out, there were far less than 10 million 360s around) the game sold almost a million units in its first week. I think Sony has trouble selling its big first party games (also look at Resistance 2, Motorstorm 2 and LBP). Does it come down to advertising or what? NotSoSlim: "Still the sales werent great but the game is so thats all that matters as GG made a profit already on it so win win " GG are just developers. They don't really "make a profit". Sony does. However, if it's true that publishers get about 50% of retail money, which would be 30$ for every unit sold, then Sony still has some ways to go before they make a profit, considering the budget was last reported at 60 millions. Doesn't really matter though. The main purpose of these big first-party games is not to make profit, but to increase sales of the console, so that more developers will want to make games for it. |

Fair enough. Well as i said total sales of Halo Wars and KZ2 are basically the same in the US and noone gets figures for Europe so maybe they have made a profit and if they sel another 300k the surely 1m in US is good?. Sony's issue is marketing..simple. I just dont think they thought heavy marketing was justified with KZ2 due to poor original game. You know they will bombard us with GOW marketing and Uncharted as well because they are proven sellers. |

Uncharted 2 should be Sony's last chance of proving they can actually advertise a game. The first one had great reviews, unlike KZ1, and in time it ultimately sold a lot and without any big help from bundles, unlike Motorstorm and Resistance.
I want to see at least a million units at launch. At least. If Fable 2 can pull that, Uncharted 2 should be able to do so much more... but I'll try to stay safe here. |

I won't lie, the SP of Killzone 2 is boooooring! A DAMN shame about GTA though. It's a fantastic game.

Yes Resi has done very well indeed. Considering the outcry of the demo, doesnt seem to have had a negative impact.

We all knew that was a straith lie. At least i did. I think Sony only consider their own exclusives to be AAA. Thats how they come up with this bullshit. Halo 3 and Gears 2 has sold a lot more copies than Little Big Planet and Killzone 2. |

Regardless if you dont like KZ (which I dont have a problem with), there are some impressive tech involved/effort that deserves some respect.
My point is, as you develop (apparently) you should have some respect for other developers, you dont, so your just a muppet. Simple. Oh and your little swearing fits really get to me.... not (perhaps they work in the playground, but not here). |

Sorry I know it's opinion but GTA DS was not shite! Perhaps not the ''greatest DS game'' like a lot of reviews were saying but its a high 8 or 9 at the least. An astonishing achievement for a DS game and a wonderful game overall. I wasn't expecting it to get top 10 at all because of the likes of Resi 5, Killzone, etc. Not surprising at all. |

No it doesnt. I buy games to play, not gawk at. I can understand how you, as a PS3 owner, might think that is important though. Sony has drilled into your puny little brain the directive to favour flashy visuals over anything resembling compelling gameplay. You have been force-fed pretty looking, soulless, vapid, shit-playing games through the life of the console and that's all you know now. You don't even recognise poor gameplay when it's right in front of you with the words 'Killzone 2' stamped all over it. If you had even a tiny idea about what gaming is then you would be able to see through the shine and see how extremely poor the actual gameplay is in Killzone. I suspect you are quite new to gaming. There was a time when gameplay was all there was in games, back when resolution was measured in character positions, and colours were a luxury. Times change and technology moves forward, but the underpinning principle must be gameplay first, visuals to support the gameplay. Sony have decided to reverse that and adpot it as their design philosophy. Killzone 2 is the shining example of this very wrong philosophy, and it's flopping as it rightly deserves to. No, I'm sorry but bad gameplay = no respect, no matter what the technical achievement. |

"Hey I am sure I've said many times before (but you gloss over it), I own all three consoles" I very much doubt it. makeamazing, the fact that you own a ps3 despite a range of mediocre, over hyped and poorly selling games says you were just fooled into sony's pr. No shame in it, there's lots of people sony used brainless brand loyalty to get a ps3. Again your opinion as fact... seriously one day you will realise that your fanboy opionion isnt fact. People say the Xbox is full of shooters and the Wii is full of shovelware... so depending on who you ask will depend on who thinks they are right. I think all three consoles have something to offer, and you bleeting Fanboyist comments will not change my mind. I have a wii and 360, why? Because they have games I want to play, without this rediculous ''ps3 is 4d'' crap sony has been pedling to it's idiotic user base from the start. The wii right now has four or five games I own, with more to come, and sony has two games I'm interested in the future (gow3 and heavy rain) so why should I pay the price tag which doesn't warrent it? No all you have done is swallow someone elses PR when it comes to the Wii and Xbox. All manufacturers sprout rubbish, you just are blinkered by them instead. I have all three and dont swallow any PR from them (I mean 4D really come on). Also you say there are only two games YOU are intested in... DOH.. really thats YOUR opinion.. man some people are dumb. Perhaps you used to own a PS2 and it broke, or you cant afford a PS3, or perhaps you are bullied at school by a PS3 owner, I dont know what your problem is, but really, I cannot see how anyone can (without laughing) tell one user that they have purchased a machine on hype alone and they are idiots for doing so when you have purchased a competitor product and defending it to the hilt. |

to start making great third party exclusives that don't look like they ripped off a billion other games. LBP, the game most called ''original'', was little more than a platformer come level editor, which ripped off it's sylings from Nintendo. Killzone rips off every fps ever, and resistance's aliens are like lamer verions of GOW's locusts.
Wow your arguments are so amazing I just have to admit, errm so GOW was so unique and there was nothing like it before... haha right. get them and your company Well i dont work for Sony.... muppet. |
