Remedy would like to do Alan Wake 2

"If the first one does well."

Alan Wake developer Remedy has said it's "no secret that we'd love to make a second one if the first one does well".

Writing on the official forum (thanks VG247), Remedy's Mikko Rautalahti added that "since the game isn't even out yet, it's really up in the air".

"Clearly, it's been a critical success; the fact that some people feel differently about it doesn't change the fact that of the scores listed in the first post of this thread, there are eight perfect scores, and over 40 give us a 9 or a better.

"Only 7 reviews have given us a score of less than 8. That tells us in no uncertain terms that there's a lot of love for Alan Wake out there, and we'd have to be complete goddamn idiots to not be satisfied with that.

"I mean, sure, the next time, we definitely hope to top that, it's nice to have something to aim for, but we're pretty damn far from disappointed."

Rautalahti said that "many of us are working on the DLC" and that the team is "spending a lot of time on post-mortems on the project, figuring out what went right and what went wrong".

Check out our Alan Wake review and in-depth technical analysis for more on Remedy's opus, which is out for Xbox 360 on 14th May.

It will be out in 2022 then.
  • Goodfella #2 2 years ago

Add 5 years for full HD. ;)

Still not sure about Alan Wake. Game Revolution, which is the only site whose reviews I trust even more than EG, gave it an A-... the jury is still out it seems.

I'll help the game do well if you do a PC version, Remedy.
  • muscleblade #5 2 years ago

Personally i think the game was worth the wait and i like it the way it is (linear) as im not a fan of sandbox games (Crackdown is the exeption). The game looks very good too (the environments mostly).

    Note:I got the game early

I also finished LP2 last night. Good co-op game no doubt. The last boss was a chore though. 45 minute boss fight come on.

7/10 or not, I'm most definitely getting this on Friday, infact I can't bloody wait. I even bought another optical cable to get my 360 and this game in on my surround sound set up, I want it to freak me out :)
  • Goodfella #7 2 years ago

I'll be getting it this week, I don't really count pixels when playing games, as long as they actually look nice then all is ok. The Wii on the otherhand, games just don't look pretty on a 42" 1080p TV, not even with a component cable.
  • LiveForever #8 2 years ago

The major problem with this type of game is value for money.
The game is probably 6 or so hours long, for a linear no multiplayer full priced game its abit expensive.
They need to lower the price otherwise rental is the way to go.
  • captainrentboy #9 2 years ago

Liveforever I would usually agree with that, but I have sooo little time to play most games nowadays that even the ones that last 7-12 hrs end up lasting me a couple of weeks :)
  • LazyNinjaUk #10 2 years ago

They've probably learnt a lot from the production of Alan Wake, so I'm sure they are fairly confident that they could turn around a sequel in half the development time.
  • Spekingur #11 2 years ago

    Open world then?
    Co-op multiplayer?

I'm with UncleLou - give us that PC version, I'll buy your game Remedy. Immediately.

He makes some good points actually. It was annoying to see people in the comments bang on about how this game is now shit based on one person's, highly contested review.

Lots of other reviewers have really enjoyed this game. Far more in fact than people that only found it to be a 7/10 game.

Ellie didn't like it and that's fine, but I would suggest that the general consensus is that this is a darn good game with a sequel that could be even better.

Many people have cited Uncharted as a similar example.

...anyway... I hope they do make a sequel with the niggles removed and I've still got my copy on pre order for the 14th. :)
  • Moribundman #14 2 years ago

Yeah, they're bound to make an AW2 with support like Ellie's ;-)
  • Moribundman #15 2 years ago

It's worth considering that EG gave Mass Effect a critical 8, and when those guys got a sequel together they were rather enamoured of it.
  • Xeopuppy #16 2 years ago

How about a PC version of number one first, eh!!!
  • muscleblade #17 2 years ago

They gave Dead Space a 7/10 too. Same kind of game. Dead Space was atleast a 9/10 in my and many many others opinion.
You cant trust one single review enough to make a purchasing decision.

@muscleblade: I found Dead Space rather boring, a 7/10 is quite generous from my standpoint. People have different tastes and a game that's rated 9/10 should appeal to more people than only the survival-horror crowd. Most of my friends are not the survival-horror crowd and they all found Dead Space mediocre at best.

Im placing my bet. Alan Wake within the next 3 years max and full HD.

Surely if it's gonna be three years it will be on the next generation of consoles?

edit: I guess the neg votes mean new consoles are unlikely to be coming in the next three years? I assumed they would do (feels like a long time already) but I've never looked into it. Have Sony/MS said when to expect them?

Maybe do it on pc so you don need to cripple it :)
  • FogHeart #22 2 years ago

Unfortunately, they've named the game after its protagonist so they're stuck with him....I say that because lots of survival horror franchises chop and change the characters with each release - think Resi, Project Zero, Silent Hill. On the third iteration the poor man would be pretty pissed off having to shine his torch at yet more evil presences.

The Big Evil in horror franchises requires several heroes/victims to finally beat it back - or alternatively one person falls into its machinations at a time.

I disagree, a game should be rated on it's merits in the genre it sits. You wouldn't mark down Disney's Up because it didn't scare you, you rate it on the fact it's for kids.
Like you said people have different tastes and if you know that you don't like survival horror games then you're never gonna think Dead Space deserves a 7/10 nevermind a 9/10.

I think MS made a mistake not releasing a demo tbh. It's one of MS big exclusives this year. Considering it's a new IP I expected a demo. It would also help make up a lot of people's minds about the full game and if it really is worth buying. No review can really describe what you get unless you actually play the game yourself.
  • FogHeart #25 2 years ago

I have to agree with Acrid- I can't play beat-em-ups at all and don't like MMOs but there's no way a perfect example of either genre would need to persuade me to buy it in order to merit its score.

As survival horror goes, the only weakness with Dead Space was an initial wekness with the plot (if only it was set out at the beginning that the ship needed to be brought into running order via several tasks, it would have been less irksome to be asked to do one the instant the previous one was completed!) and a small lack of depth which is often usual on the first iteration of a franchise. Richard DF pointed out he'd have liked to see more done with the idea of light fending off dark. A section where you have no torch, just a camera flash that has to recharge - that'd be good. Or having to put lit flares on a conveyor belt outside a logging factory so the interior is lit so you can enter and do something inside, then have to retreat quickly when it runs low, and repeat. And so on.

Yeah i thought DSpace was good, but wasnt a 9/10, but as other people have said (many times before), you need to take scores with a pinch of salt and take them as a whole, a game can score lots of 9's and 10's and you still can hate it.

Now for AW, looking at the scores as a whole, if the lowest scores it is getting is 7/10, then i would be encouraged by that... its usually worse when a game is getting 5/6 to 9 out of 10, thats when you know its going to be a marmite game.

Same here. AW was the game I got my 360 for originally but now I am not so sure anymore. It's not even Ellie's review that has me sitting on the fence. It's more those seemingly endless, repetitive waves of axe-wielding dudes that you see in the videos, that I don't find very captivating, even though the game does arguably ooze atmosphere and authenticity in the setting, which makes it very hard to resist. Gonna wait for what the forumites have to say once they've played through it, before I decide.

You can count me in on that sentiment. As much as I love the look of the game, I'm not buying a 360 to play it, sorry.
  • DUFFMAN5 #30 2 years ago

I hope it does sell well. If the dlc and 2nd game could manage more horror/thriller elements we could be on to a winner. I can't wait to give the game a try on Thurs/Fri.

I have a 360 but I'm not getting it on it. I'm holding out hope that they'll announce that the PC version is back on the cards.
  • Machiavellian #33 2 years ago

I think the PC version is out. With the DLC and hopes of doing a sequel, that doesn't leave any room for the PC version for a small developer. If a sequel is made, MS probably will fund it and it doesn't look like MS is interested in a PC version for this game. If you think about it, a PC version has a lot more risk then the console version. Probably makes more sense to MS to keep the team focus on one version then split development on two.
