Remedy "working hard" on Alan Wake News

PC Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

18 August, 2008

Remedy Entertainment "is still here" and wants us to know that Alan Wake is still very much in development.

"We feel we owe you all a small heads-up, and our apologies for lack of updates," said Mika Reini, CFO of Remedy, on the official forums. "We're still here and working hard on getting Alan Wake for you to enjoy.

"Sure, we've been in development for a long time and if everything had gone perfectly smoothly there probably would be a game out for you guys to play already. But designing a completely new game can be hard, and sometimes you need to take a detour to find the best route forward.

"We want to entertain you guys in the best possible way and our team is putting in every effort possible in order for that to happen. That is the way Remedy wants to do things. I'm sure you will enjoy Alan Wake when we're done," he added.

Alan Wake was revealed at E3 2005 but subsequently ducked out of sight, causing us all to panic like a haunted author on the run from terrible nocturnal phantoms. Which, incidentally, is a lot like the plot of the game.

Alan Wake is in development for PC and Xbox 360, and is expected, eventually, sometime in 2009.

Head over to our Alan Wake gamepage for all of the details released so far.

The wording of that reassurance was surprisingly worrying. :(

Remember back in 2005 when Alan Wake's graphics engine was 'wowing' us all?
It's taken sooooo bloody long to show that the graphics no longer look like anything special. It had better have some damned good gameplay and storytelling that's all I can say.

Let's hope that all their long hard work equals a quality game whenever it's released

When was the last time a game with troubled development turned out to be great? :(

Where does it say "troubled development"? They may have taken a wrong turn and corrected it. Calm down.

They were quite secretive with Max Payne too, if I remember correctly.

I went to the bookies today to see what odds I could get on which game would come out first, this or duke nukem. In the end just put a tenner on stoke to win the premier league....

Having seen the development tools (and therefore some realtime gameplay) with my own eyes I can assure you that graphics will still look marvellous once the game hits the streets.

Hmm. Prey's development was on and off, too, but that turned out pretty good.

and i remember World of Warcraft being listed on Blizzard's site for bloody years before it finally reared its' ugly competition-obliterating directx8 rendered repetitive XP grinding face.

Blah blah graphics aren't everything blah blah. It's true. I've been having a whale of a time with Bionic Commando Re-armed, and despite it's comparative fancy 3D make-over, it's the game play that gets you hooked.

I want this game so much, but of course, the beautiful, dark, twin peaks / david lynch style game I'm imagining may never actually come to pass.

En potentia, everything can be so perfect . .
