Remedy focusing on Alan Wake 360 News

PC Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

9 July, 2009

Remedy has said that Alan Wake on Xbox 360 is its top priority and the PC version may have to wait.

"Unfortunately all I can say at this point is that we're focusing all our efforts on the 360 version and will be making comments in regards to the PC at a later time," writes MarkusRMD - presumably Markus Maki, head of development - on the Alan Wake forum.

Microsoft gave Alan Wake a spring 2010 date after demonstrating it on-stage during its E3 conference.

And you may have to wait until launch to play it yourself. "A demo has been discussed a few times but I would deem it unlikely at this point," MarkusRMD posted in another thread.

"It's a big business and production scheduling decision, demos of games like Alan Wake are not something you can throw together quickly as shorty pointed out above.

"Then there are technical sides like the world structure (one large world) making it a bit challenging to make a small download," he adds. "Again, not impossible but quite a lot of work."

Head over to our E3 hands-on impressions of Alan Wake to find out more about Remedy's secretive project.

I don't think Intel are going to be too pleased with that news.

Likely not really allowed to speak about it as part of some publishing/marketing clause.

Alan Wake = Duke Nukem forever

Honestly this thing has been in production before the 360 was even released.

Its going to end up crap, any half decent software house would have had it out the door long before now, the fact they are now dropping the PC version which was the main platform in the beginning, says to me "money hats" involved due to long production time and no cash left.

If it doesn't end up a total mess then ill be very happy and surprised, although that situation is rather unlikely.

As long as it doesn't end up like Alone in the Dark. I'm still hurting with the pain of that one.

starting to get bored of waiting for Alan Wake. No Demo isnt going to help matters when ppl end up sitting on the fence after waiting for so long.

@designerheadache,

The first Max Payne game was in development for over 5 years and didn't end up a total mess, so there is some hope.

They probably don't want to cannabalise potential early 360 sales by PC pirating.

There's no way this can live up to the promises that were made at first, partly because the designers admitted that themselves a month or two ago. Let's just let the hype die down, and enjoy it (if we can) for what it is when it's released.

I hope this is good but the footage I've seen looks more like all the dev team has done is read a bunch of Stephen King books and then rip of various sections from them and make a game to fit round it.

Still i'll wait and see but the moment i'm officially not bothered anymore.

Its a business decision, plain & simple. Id expect most people with both a 360 & A half-decent PC would go for the PC version if they released for both at the same time, and from what I understand they make more £££ on a 360 sale.

Fair enough, there not a charity, plus once its out on PC enough time will of past from the 360s launch to see if the game is any good or not.

I'm going to wait for the PC version if I can resist. What little I've seen of the 360 looks very, very good indeed but I've a feeling that the console won't quite be able to do the concept the same justice that a decent PC can.

This is retarded. They've been developing it for what 5 to 6 years now and they still don't have a solid release date.

To top it off they aren't releasing a PC version and now they've canned the demo too.

This game already was unlikely to sell more than 12 copies since a game like this is unlikely to appeal to very many people.

It's going to be delayed as hell, probably suck and sell 14 copies. Remedy is a joke though to be honest this is a developer that couldn't even keep hold of their flagship title.

Max Payne 3 will destroy Alan Wake in sales not least because its multi platform admittedly but it shows where stupid decisions get you.

More what TSYNDMonkfish said. They prefer selling games on the 360, Microsoft has openly said so in the past, because they earn more. The 20,- EUR on top of each game compared to the PC version go directly into MS's pocket.

Really looking forward to this game, it's E3 showing was really impressive.

PC Owners, take heart- he implies that he isn't talking PC version YET. That implies that it is still coming, maybe some time after the console version, but that's better than not at all right?

Game looked very average from the E3 showing :(

Not what I was expecting at all, and now it seems that the PC will get a port of the 360 version so technically it will suffer...

lol 'average'?

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but if you ask me (you didn't but I'mma tell you anyway :D), if you think it looked average, you probably need a new hobby.

I'm not quite sure, aside from being a disgruntled PC-only owner, why you are all so fucked off with the game. It's coming Spring 2010, which of course might change, and looked good - they stated (I seem to recall) that the E3 demo was actioned-up a bit.

No i don't need a new hobby, and imo it was one of the weakest games shown across all formats especially as it was one of the games I was most looking forward to seeing. They should rename it Alone in the dark 2 :(

I'm just playing, fair enough. I quite liked alone in the dark..it was flawed as hell, and I understand why so many people hated it, but there was a lot of good with the bad in my opinion. I hope this is a better, polished version.

And come on, the studio who did max payne must deserve some leeway right?

I thought Alone in the Dark's issue was mostly with the controls?

Also, flashlight + scary monsters = Alone in the Dark clone - :D

@Moonprince -

Muscleblade posted "For the people that think this will be crap (mostly PS3 owners and maybe PC owners too now) i bet youre wrong. This will probably be one of the best games ever made. Since its now a 360 exclusive this will probably help MS sell even more of their amazing console." Clearly a considered and impartial post. I think there may be a setting somewhere in your control panel that dictates whether you can see posts that have a rating below whatever.

This sounds like money issues to me. Somebody is putting pressure on to get it done, and when the clock starts ticking, the 360 comes first. If the 360 version does well you'll prob get a pc version some 6 to 8 months later.
