Rein rubbishes Gears of War 2 reports

"It is complete nonsense."

Epic Games vice president Mark Rein has rubbished suggestions that GamePro magazine is about to unveil Gears of War 2.

Speculation wasn't so much fuelled as firebombed over the weekend after the US magazine released a cover image bearing the fateful words.

However, Rein told his faithful forum friends, "It is complete nonsense.

"We have not announced a sequel to Gears of War to GamePro or anyone else for that matter."

Then, overnight, GameSpot got hold of a scan of the article and now reports that it's speculative, talking about "what we should expect" and even admitting it "hasn't officially been announced yet".

Tune in the week after next during the Game Developers Conference to see whether it will be officially announced there - perhaps as part of Xbox man John Schappert's keynote.

Erm, why all the hype? Gears of War was an average game IMO. Just average.

    *first* w00t

I wouldnt even call it average - thought it was complete garbage.

And that's from an avid Xbox fan.

so gow is the new halo, in terms of 'look at me being so cool dissing gow' ?

gow was a proper action game, looked pretty and had a very fun (note: fun) online component. sure it had its flaws and online things weren't perfect, but calling it complete garbage is, imho, (and hey, it's all about opinions these days)...laughable.

OT: pretty sure it is not, as Rein said, complete nonsense. we all know it is coming and it is pretty much a given that they are working on it atm. so why the 'oh noes, gow, what now?'

I had fun playing Gears of War but I'm not sure if more of the same will do it for me. I have no idea how the sequel should turn out so that it will actually appeal to me because obviously they can't change the core gameplay.

Well as long as it's more of the same cinematic feel, with more set pieces and boss fights, improved cover mechanics, buddy and enemy AI, a sequel would be more welcome.

I would love a sequel to my favourite game of 2006. Its probably not coming out for awhile though.

But he didn't say Gears of War 2 will never be made, because that would be stupid. He was simply responding to the idea that GamePro had some kind of inside information.

Gears of War Two needs far less repetitive music.

Glad to see all the "kewl kidz" going emo over GoW.

It is ok to be different guys.. we know, we know.

Anyway.. if GoW is not being made I will eat my shorts ;) After the Epic failure of UT I think they need the cash ;)
  • Apostle #11 4 years ago

Hardly an Epic failure [lol, a pun]. Although any game they made after GoW was gonna have a hard task matching the sales of the teams Microsoft-super-powered-smash-hit (MSPSH for short).

Gears of war was good at the time, gears 2 will be pretty mediocre in the overall scheme (still should be a decent game).

Not that it concerns me now, i'm out of the 360 scene now my third repaired console has died of 1 light, i'm not paying MS cash to fix their shit or having all the hassle of returning AGAIN, it's going in the bin and i'll sell everything else on ebay.

Could have been one of the best systems ever too, shame MS forgot about quality control.

That's why I don't read game magazines anymore, they're too desperate for sales so have to make up stuff to attract people to read their rubbish.

This was a huge buggy peice of shit on PC thanks to Windows Live.
  • Pablo2k5 #16 4 years ago

Dizzy, I wasn't being emo, I was just stating that Gears of War is IMO a very average shooter...

    You're weird.
