Rein quiet on UT3 PS3 date News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

25 October, 2007

Epic Games' Mark Rein says it's "too early to know" whether Unreal Tournament 3 will hit PS3 this year.

Rein was speaking to Eurogamer via email in light of Australian distribution reports that the PC version is set for mid-November but won't be joined by its console sibling until 2008.

Midway yesterday confirmed that the PC version is down for release in mid-November, although it couldn't be completely specific about the release date.

The publisher recently advised investors that the highly anticipated first-person shooter might miss the pre-Christmas release window and slip to 2008, with Rein later adding that the company had felt obliged to alert investors to the possibility despite a reasonable probability of getting it done this year.

Phew, very exciting eh? For more on UT3, check out our PC and PS3 gamepages, or hook yourself up to the recent beta demo and draw your own conclusions.

An Xbox 360 version is also planned, but will arrive after PC and PS3 due to an exclusivity arrangement with Sony.

To make it this side of Xmas it would have to be done within a fortnight surely? I suspect some Sony pressure is in play to get it out asap.

Bet you that the X360 version is ready now but they can't release it. I think Midway are regretting making it a 'timed exclusive' for the PS3.

Oh how they would love to boost their investor's coffers this side of Xmas with the X360 and PC releases, but it looks like they'll have to wait until the PS3 version is actually working, before they can do so.

Shame. And this is a comment coming from a PS2 gamer.

In the latest episode of the The 1UP Show and the 1UP Yours podcast, they talk alot about the PS3 version which they have been playing. The PS3 version sounds like it's very smooth and polished according to them so it's quite close to being finished.

But I agree... I don't expect them to be able to get it out before christmas. My quess is a january or february release.

This looks rather fishy... Maybe they're trying to find a better release date, because they don't want ut3 Ps3 to be overshadowed by COD4 and Haze, both due in november. In that case, early 2008 would be better. Too bad for the x360 version, but it's not like the x360 owners were out of options in the FPS department.
