RedOctane reveals Guitar Hero 3
Official FAQ spills beans.
RedOctane has revealed that Guitar Hero 3 is in development for PlayStation 3, PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii.
It's due to be available across the US in autumn, though Activision was unavailable to comment on when we might expect it in Europe.
The unveiling happened in the support section of RedOctane's website, where the co-publisher responded to queries about which platforms Guitar Hero II would appear on by unveiling a third game in its answer. Exactly how we would have handled it.
There's no news on a track list for this iteration, or what other fancy features will be included, but we expect plenty of rock-based madness, plus a new PlayStation 3 guitar and possible Wii peripheral. Naturally those of you with PS2 and Xbox 360 controllers will be able to reuse yours.
It follows news that Guitar Hero developer Harmonix will be helping EA create a new rhythm-action game called Rock Band. And rather than replicate the antics of previous games, it will attempt to take the whole experience one step further, by letting you simulate each aspect of your dream rock line-up; using drum, microphone, lead and rhythm guitar peripherals.
We bet our band will be better than yours, too.
Head over to our recent Guitar Hero II Xbox 360 review to see why we're so fired up.

Well not entirely the death because they could just put the top 30 dl'd songs on disc for those offline folk but not as frequent as on wii/PS2.

I don't think there will be wireless guitars for the 360 as Microsoft are being very possessive about the 360 wireless technology right now, saying that only peripherals made by Microsoft can use it. Interestingly though there are official wireless ones for the PS2 now, Game have them in stock on their website.
This may be a bit of a bugger. At the weekend I traded in my PS2 versions of the game for the 360 one and am very happy with it. Now there's a Wii version coming I'm further intrigued. Mind you, it could just be a half-arsed port like the majority of Wii games seem to be right now.

DLC won't kill full releases - there's too much money to be made from a full release (whether a boxed version at Game, or a downloadable version from Steam / Market Place).

It also let's us practice the game and learn the gameplay, and that is the best thing of all, because it helps us to get used to the tricky new form of gameplay. That will be very useful when Guitar Hero 3 is released, because then we will be able to start playing it and doing well right away, rather than learning how to play the game from the beginning.
Plus, Guitar Hero 2 uses a USB controller right now, but it has a long cord, and if you need a 10' or 20' extender, they are only like $5 or $7 at the store. That makes it so the game offerse the same type of freedom as a wireless guitar, but it makes it so it has the realistic sort of cord from the guitar, which is pretty cool!!!
It's a shame that PS2 owners Guitars won't work with their Playstation 3. It really is a shame that people who bought the first two games can't even get them to work on the Playstation 3. I know I am NOT the kind of person who wants TWO guitars sitting around the house, while I can ony use one of them, all because of Sony's greed and stupidity at the expensive of the consumer.
The Xbox 360 version will likely be the best version anyways, so that is why I was so glad to get Guitar Hero 2 now with the Guitar for $90, and then I will just spend $50 for just the game when I buy Guitar Hero 3.

Well... there's a bigger chance that the PS3 GH controller will be wireless or at least a wireless version will be available from the start.

FFS this is getting out of hand, just buy real instruments and form a real band instead of farting around with video game jobbies.
On second thoughts if you're only going to reproduce tired old heavy metal then don't bother.

What exactly do you want from the GH series apart from regular installments of new songs?

Aren't you slightly missing the point? It took me about half an hour's practice on GH2 to be able to sound like Slash. I would imagine it might take me a bit longer in real life.
Fantasy and escapism are what games are all about. Any criticism you level at GH could just as easily be levelled at dozens genres. It sounds like pure snobbery to me.

Couldn't agree more.
