"Part of you wishes that the developer had put some effort into making really simple courses that just are fun for showing off or relaxing."

Yes, this. There needs to be more flip tracks, and maybe some that are just longer with ludicrous jumps and loops for the hell of it.

But, yeah, brilliant game. Got totally addicted to the original when some naughty person was hosting the full Java version on a web site.

So, Trackmania on dirt bikes then? Sounds cool! As for this:

"Audiosurf outselling Call of Duty on Steam for all of February"

I imagine that's almost solely down to CoD4 being absurdly expensive on Steam :)

Someone needs to mod in the Kick Start theme. Preferably the Kick Start 2 muzak version form the C64...

Easily the best $20 I've spent in a long, long while. It's an absolutely fantastic game, although you're right about the music of course. Thankfully you can mute it and just play whatever in the background. I find that 80s music works best.

For ten quid, I believe you can get Peter Purves to come to your house and comment on your performance.

Kikstart 2. Played it recently for the Retro channel and couldn't quite believe how hard it really is/was. Were we really that much more skillful 20 years ago, or are we all losers now with no patience?

You should definitely play this if you haven't already, man.

It was damn hard, correct, but I remember being awesome at it. Playing it now was like being punched in the face repeatedly.

I do like the look of this. Everyone apart from me appears to be playing it in the office.

My problem is Mac related. I just really cannot be bothered with PC gaming anymore. I love the idea of it, and loved everything regarding home computing/PC gaming from about 1983 to about 2004 (Half-Life 2, then), but working at EG has basically turned me into a console whore. I can't be arsed with the faffing around required anymore. Or the expense.

Someone needs to convince Microsoft to release this on Live Arcade, then I'm there.

I remember Kickstart2 as well. Let's see if I can unearth it and then have a showdown:Oldskool vs. NextGen.

The promo videos are a bit silly though. Advertising features such as "choose your country" and "chat online" are silly. Makes you wonder where they got their priorities.

It sounds enormously like it would be a better game on a console (or PC) with analogue controls for lean?
Spikey digital keyboard controls no thanks.

It seriously doesn't need it. Just mastering how to use backwards and forwards is complicated enough, without the addition of miniscule layers of complexity between those points.

Downloaded the demo a couple of weeks ago and it is indeed awesome. I must have sat there for an hour after trying the demo first time laughing every time I bailed. And I thought about 10 mins passed. Need to buy it but Im a bit skint after buying a PS3.

Well spent 20$, definitely. Goes from enormously satisfying ("I can't believe I just did that") to excruciatingly frustrating ("that was dead easy yesterday! Why can't I do it anymore?") in seconds. Plus, you can show your friends the former moments and wallow in their latter ones :D Team mode is awesome just for watching your teammates' replays on the more difficult tracks and laughing as they fall again and again :D

Does look like Kikstart but polished. See, beats the hell out of me why there isn't more stuff like this on XBLA and PSN.

But then again if people are happy paying 800 points for Time Pilot...do they deserve stuff like this?

It's well worth the price. Hard as rock but excellent nevertheless. Some of the levels induce a obsessive-compulsive feeling: just one more go, this time it'll work, damn, reset the course, just one more go...

Currently I'm better than Gremmi - by 10 points - in the official Eurogamer team. At least that's something. \o/

Thanks for doing the review KG, I'd bought the first version of this a while back and had no idea they'd done such a huge update. I was reading the review thinking "I never found that feature" :D

Kudos to the developers too - even though this costs twice as much as the version I bought, my registration code works to unlock it. *That's* how you build customer loyalty.

That's not a great accomplishment. I suck.

Can't do any of the hard levels (which is strange, 'cause I definitely completed the hard level in the trial).

It actually does recall a lot of TrackMania's compulsive one-more-try nature. I think it's pretty safe to say that if you like that, you'll like this.

Can't agree more with krudster on the PC/Console issue i think age and a phat HDTV + couch is the reason my PC gets so little attention these days, plus being in the industry means i play 360 and PS3 far more than PC.

Luckily my now long in the tooth PC still runs this pretty well, but in ULTRA mode, wow it looks good!... at least it did on my mates PC.

Lets get some petition going for getting this on XBLA, such a great game im amazed no one did a next-gen makeover of kickstart sooner. Never finished that game btw, i blame it on poor but amazing forf its time physics :P
