Red Faction patched, double-XP event News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

7 August, 2009

Volition has released a big old patch for Red Faction: Guerrilla on PS3 and Xbox 360 and announced its first double-XP weekend to celebrate.

The patch comes ahead of the 13th August release of the Demons of the Badlands DLC, but Volition has packed in a good few additions despite the upcoming premium reinforcement.

As well as a new Wrecking Crew mode and leaderboards, the patch unlocks four additional Wrecking Crew maps that were used as pre-order bonuses so that everyone may now play them.

Handily, it also introduces purple dots on the mini-map to indicate ore deposits. "This will help players to obtain the 'Working the Land' achievement/trophy," the website dryly notes. Innit.

The full list of changes can be found on the Red Faction community site, which also reveals that the double-XP phase following the patch's release overnight will last until midnight Sunday.

Making ore deposits easier to spot will probably help a lot.

The double XP is very nice and the update seems to have brought back a lot of players. There were tons of games going on last night.

I was trying to go for the ore without any guides or anything to get a real sense of achievement though I suppose it can only help with the last few and you would have to find the general area for it to show up like the radio pickups anyway.

The problem isn't the ore deposits, really. It's those damned radio missions. One achievement needs you to finish all 104 Guerilla Missions and if you didn't do all the radio missions you are going to have to finish the game and then begin the long wait (and search) for the radio missions you missed. Very annoying.

The radio missions thing has been fixed too Spekingur. On the community site they have full patch notes which include the House Arrest, Assuault, Courier etc bug fixes.
