RB2 works with GHWT, RR peripherals

But only on PS3 for the moment.

Harmonix has patched Rock Band 2 on PS3 to support Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Revolution peripherals.

An Xbox 360 update is "forthcoming", according to the Rock Band forum.

"Consumers should not be forced to buy separate controllers for each game. Rock Band peripherals should be compatible with other music games - even those of our competitors," said the developer.

"We are extremely excited that consumers can finally use the peripherals of their choice with their games on the PS3, and that they no longer need to buy multiple guitars or drums."

There's a few other bug fixes in the PS3 patch, and full notes can be found on the Rock Band forum.

Previously, both Sony and Microsoft have aired plans to make instruments from Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band 2 and Rock Revolution cross-compatible on their respective formats.

I thought that the GHWT stuff worked with RB2 on 360 anyway. Is that not the case?

EDIT: It is indeed the case. Confusing wording on the part of Harmonix when talking about a 360 patch.

Well, my GH3 guitar works with RB2 perfectly on the 360.

we really need our software to work on the dominant brands hardware

The GHWT drums still don't work with RB1 though, and RB2 isn't likely to be out in Europe on PS3 for a while.

GHWT drums work on RB1 and 2 on the 360, as does the Guitar... haven't tried the mic yet though.
  • Brogan #6 3 years ago

So why does joystiq say they are? says it's tested them too. need this cleared up. Want drums.
  • siksik6 #7 3 years ago

Brogan: because they are ;) This article is incorrect.

Actually, EG isn't too blame here, the Harmonix forum announcement implied the 360 has compatibility problems.

I assure you, however, that it doesn't, been using the GHWT drums on Rb1 since the GH launch! (and on Rb2 since that was released) (on my 360)

That still doesn't answer the crucual question though, which is do I ask for GHWT for Christman (and then pick up the RB2 disc), or do I ask for the RB2 game and instrument pack for Christmas? Eh? I'll need something to do while I'm stuck at my gf's family house.

Guys, you have to be careful also of the US/UK sites.

From what I've heard, the US don't have the same issues as us.

Good news about RB2 working with GHWT instruments for PS3 though, now all I have to do is wait til next year before the 'exclusivity' deal ends!!!!
  • LazyDan #10 3 years ago

Well the GH:WT drums are definitely better than the RB/RB2 drums, and I really like the GH:WT guitar too, so I'm thinking GH:WT instrument bundle + RB2 on the 360 is the way forward for HUMANITY. But RB1 has better songs on the disc than RB2... But RB2 has a better band mode! BLARG

    MUSICAL MAYHEM!!

  • IneptPercy #11 3 years ago

Can't you import most of the songs from RB1 into RB2, so the best idea is GHWT kit with both RB games?
  • Shinji #12 3 years ago

The GHWT instruments do work on RB2 on the 360, but they could do with a few tweaks all the same - it'd be nice if the slider bar would register for solos on the guitar, for example, or if the drums would actually map to the coloured buttons in menus. Not show-stopping problems, but not 100% compatibility either.

I did this: (all 360 btw)

bought Rb1 with 'instruments' at lunch
    sold instruments, kept game.
bought GH:WT bundle (with all instruments)
    bought RB2
    imported RB1 songs onto RB2
    sold rb1 disc.

So I have Rb1, 2 and GH:WT with the GH 'instruments'.

    Best combo imo.

Everyone and their dog knows the GHWT peripherals have worked with RB on 360 for ages; Eurogamer don't seem to know their stuff when it comes to music games.

The guitar is good but in fact the drums aren't as good an option as I first thought they might be. Despite the initial 'oo' factor of the cymbals, the GHWT drumkit is actually less flexible as a RB kit than you might think. Not only does the crash cymbal not work, but a fixed 1 snare/2 toms/2 cymbals setup makes a lot of charts less interesting, because of the inability to manage open hi-hat vs closed hihat, and 3-tom combos. The RB drumset manages this by 'floating' the configuration of the 4 pads, but this isn't possible when you fix the function of all 5 pads.

This actually makes some drum charts at Hard and Expert on GHWT less authentic than in RB, which is not what I (or probably most people) intuitively expected.
