Ratchet PSN download is 3.2GB

Perform in background.

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty is a 3,181MB download, we can report. Because we're downloading a review copy and have nothing better to do in the meantime.

Insomniac Games' latest PS3-exclusive is due out this Thursday, 21st August, and will cost GBP 9.99 on the PlayStation Store.

If you prefer, you can also buy it on Blu-ray in Europe from 12th September, and you won't have to pay a penny more. Unless you tell them to keep the change.

Quest for Booty is a 3D platformer that picks up where Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction left off, with Clank off with the Zoni and Ratchet on a mission to save him.

Check out our Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction review to see how the last one turned out, and tune in for our review of Quest for Booty once the router stops blinking and we've had a while to take it all in.

Lucky its very easy and pretty inexpensive to replace the PS3 hard disk with nice big un.
  • Widge #4 4 years ago

cba to change the HDD yet, i've got good space left, although some of that is taken up with hefty HD avis!
  • menage #5 4 years ago

Wonder how many content we're getting. You don't need to have the original to play this? Does it tie in at all? Arrrgh, the questions:p
  • allywidd #6 4 years ago

never had a problem with space on mine. got all my music stored on a big Mem stick. Probably go and buy on disc tbh. Id get a little impatient waiting for it to download. lol.
  • Kazzahdrane #7 4 years ago

    @menage:

According to the 1up podcast, it doesn't really "tie in" to Tools of Destruction other than being set directly after it, but don't think there's much crossover of plot other than trying to find Clank. Apparently it's about 2.5 hours long and the conclusion isn't very exciting either. But still, £10 for more Ratchet is good in my book. It's all new content though AFAIK - all-new enemies and environments so no recycling of assets from the previous game at least.

    Is the game supporting trophies?
  • JHuxley #9 4 years ago

Hmm...I'll wait for the review, but I'm not sure about the £10 price tag.

I understand you're paying for such high production values, but if this really does come under 5 hours play time (as is rumoured) you could argue that Siren and Warhawk offer much better VFM while still maintaining production values.

That said, I loved the first PS3 game so I'll probably get this anyway. Just not quite the same kind of impulse buy that Siren was.

    @ UltimateGold

No trophies, which is a shame.
  • ScarboroughKID #12 4 years ago

Anyone found a place doing pre-orders for the disc version?
  • moggsy #13 4 years ago

Why put such a small file on a Blu Ray - wouldn't it be more cost effective to release it on a DVD?
  • Aretak #14 4 years ago

All PS3 games have to be released on Blu-ray, regardless of size. Disgaea 3 is probably even smaller.
  • SeesThroughAll #15 4 years ago

    @ JHuxley:

Yes, I agree. Siren is much better value for money, especially for a PSN game!
  • JHuxley #16 4 years ago

    @SeesThroughAll

Actually, after posting that I realised I might have been a bit harsh on Insomniac there. If an average retail game lasts around 10-15 hours and you pay around £40, asking £10 for 5 hours play is more than fair. Siren might have better VFM (depending on how good you are...personally I'm RUBBISH at it, yet still enjoy it), but in terms of quality IMO there's no way Ratchet & Clank will let us down.

Again, I'll wait to see the review, but on reflection maybe it's a decent price when you consider production values, play time AND quality.

Plus Insomniac always put plenty of replay value in to their games.

I look at this, Warhawk, Siren and the soon to be re-released Paradise and I have to ask; how long can MS continue to cap the file size for XBLA games?
  • SeesThroughAll #18 4 years ago

    @ Rash' :

Actually what I wonder when I look at Warhawk is... How long will MS keep denying online multiplayer action to Live Silver users? ;)
  • Ryze #19 4 years ago

I can imagine the competition will tempt M$ to relax their restrictions for any A class games that require it. I think that the restriction is to encourage the initially low spending 360 Arcade owners to get online and begin downloading XBLArcade games to memory card - encouraging them to spend even more in the mid-term on a HDD for the larger games and Xbox originals.

Already happened for Castlevania, SSFIITHDR, and I can see it happening more often, as there is now plenty of large downoadable content such as expansion packs (Burnout Paradise, etc), 1Gb and larger game demos, movie rentals, Xbox originals and the optional full installs on their way.

Now they've just got to decide what to do (if anything) about the issue of HDD pricing.

They must be making a huge markup on each 360 HDD sold. Looks like a sound strategy in terms of finance...

the mechanical answer to banjo kazoie

Surely that ought to be Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts?
  • Ryze #21 4 years ago

Again, I can see the online play for Silver users being used as a marketing tool - if it's enabled for certain games - such as those which launch simultaneously on 360 & PS3 at the same time, or for certain premium downloadables such as Xbox Originals, then this could really bump up the sales of these titles.

For the big exclusives, or for games with a massive online fanbase, then I can't blame M$ for charging for what is an absolutely fantastic online gaming platform.

It's nice to see downloadbale content playing a key part in Sony's PS3 strategy, however. It definitely plays to the console's strengths to run these titles solely from the HDD. It encourages more users to upgrade their HDDs from 40Gb for reasons other than playing disc-based games also, so less complaints too.

Sony should now offer an official large HDD kit, or an official external HDD, as should Nintendo.

It'll only make them more money, and gives them more options to secure their content to keep it away from enterprising hackers.
  • Ryze #22 4 years ago

It still seems odd that despite all of the mud thrown at M$ over the Core / Arcade SKU, that the 360 is still the console that offers the most included, built in storage to those that want / need it.

HD movies are dirt cheap right now too!
  • byron_hinson #23 4 years ago

Those that want space etc on the PS3 though don't pay over 100% more than they should though, they just shove a new drive in at at least half the price Microsoft screw us with.
  • Ryze #24 4 years ago

This is very true. Glad I bought a Falcon Elite with 120Gb included. Plenty of storage space for this gen's content I expect. I'll refuse to buy another drive if needed unless I can get a 120Gb or bigger drive for less than £50.

As it stands I have 139 demos / XBLA games and approaching 20Gb of video, with 40Gb left on the drive.

Most of the demos (59) no longer get played, and I've not deleted any video since I began downloading it in Dec.

I'll pick up my PS3 and have a backlog of games that I'll be after installing / downloading such as Wip3out etc, so I'll be getting a HDD immediately unless they release a 120-160Gb model or larger by 2010.
  • septimus #25 4 years ago

Excellent news. Not as big as I'd thought it would be. After downloading all of Siren in one go, that is nothing.
  • Ryze #26 4 years ago

Sega Rally is crying out for a PSN release and a fleshed out online mode.

It needs this, with a decent demo download that allows players to watch paid up players' online races while chatting to each other.

Home integration and trophies would be the icing on the cake.
  • Beano #27 4 years ago

"Sega Rally is crying out for a PSN release and a fleshed out online mode."

I agree - a overlooked game which need relaunching on PSN with a few improvements. But I belive the development house has been closed?

    @Kazzahdrane

I read that it's between 5-6h long in a swedish review. It also said that one new feature was the abillity to move stuff around with the wrench and some of the levels that are focused on shooting are really good. On the downside it seems that they have emphasized mediocre platforming and puzzle solving, instead of shooting. They gave it a 7/10, and said that it was well worth the money.

Here's a link for anybody that knows swedish =)
