Ratchet demo on PS3 Store

In USA anyway.

This week's US update to the PlayStation Store sees the previously announced Everyday Shooter (USD 9.99) joined by a trio of demos - including one for Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction.

That's good news for those of us who like moonlighting in Americaville, where we can also get our grubby transatlantic mitts on demos of NHL 2K8 and Conan.

This week's Sony blog update regarding the Store also says you'll find gameplay videos for Uncharted and Folklore along with a FallOut 3 teaser.

There are also movie trailers (no one cares) and even a couple of wallpapers - one for Ratchet and one for Everyday.

We can only imagine this week's European PSN update will be just as exciting! Over to you, Rob. Rob?

    Something for the weekend, sir?

Cartoon platform high jinks? Massive man boobs and ketchup? Some sporty thing no-one cares about?

Pfft - who cares if it's not on PSN Europe - as long as it's a freebee, it's in the bag tomorrow. Pity about Everyday Shooter being delayed, but need to spread that bandwidth anyhoo.

R&C might be more of the same, but that didn't stop Halo getting the 10/10 gong. Top quality platform japery here I come.

Love the demo need to buy the game now.

  • Beano #3 4 years ago

I agree... looks awesome... and smooth framerate and no tearing in sight :)

Will not convince R&C "haters" though since it seems a lot like the old games. I hope the full game will feature more platforming elements though.

Wheres Europes Go!Ski! and Everyday shooter?!

    AND Ratchet & Clank demo?!

    Jeez, we NEED something Sony.
  • Artemis_Matsas #5 4 years ago

Can't wait to return home for some R&C goodness!!!
  • Beano #6 4 years ago

Just a tip: You can buy and download the US PS Store games from Europe with a credit card. Bought Everyday Shooter last night from the US Store ;)
  • Kryon #7 4 years ago

    "Jeez, we NEED something Sony."

    A 360 maybe?

  • oreillymj #8 4 years ago

    Largest demo yet 1.3Gb.
Been downloading all night and still had 300mb remaining when I went to work.

I wish the size of downloads on PSN was visible before clicking the download button.

I tried this demo this morning and it's excellent, admittedly it doesn't seem to play much different from the previous games (which I only played in demo form) but I think it's really enjoyable - a mindless cartoon shooter with stunning visuals - and for me it'll be my first proper taste of a Ratchet and Clank game.

At last, a PS3 exclusive demo that doesn't disappoint; I'll definitely sticking with my pre-order! :)
  • menage #10 4 years ago

First time I'm jealous :p ratchet looks awesome, played all 4 previous ones (last one sucked big time, good choice on going back to the roots)
  • Darren #11 4 years ago

@Beano - There isn't any tearing, which is nice, but there is some slowdown from time to time but it isn't game crippling and I'd rather have that as an occasional issue than a game that tears constantly - Heavenly Sword, I'm looking at you!!!
  • Beano #12 4 years ago

@Darren: The R&C demo framerate is quite smooth but yes... it does have a few framedrops when things get busy. Nothing serious IMO and far from the glitchy and choppy Heavenly Sword which ruins the game!
  • Les #13 4 years ago

"There isn't any tearing, which is nice, but there is some slowdown from time to time but it isn't game crippling and I'd rather have that as an occasional issue than a game that tears constantly - Heavenly Sword, I'm looking at you!!!"

If there's any tearing in Heavenly Sword is sure didn't bother me. But then again, I prefer jaggies to the softer look of anti-aliasing, so I'm probably not a good benchmark...

So if I dont have an american PSN account I cant get this?

  • GamesConnoisseur #15 4 years ago

Great! Now switching on PS3 and soon to be downloaded!
  • Beano #16 4 years ago

"So if I dont have an american PSN account I cant get this? "

Exactly... but why not create one? ;)

Otherwise, I expect the demo to be out in Europe in 1-2 weeks ;)

"I wonder if rumble code is included in this game..."

Incomniac claims that rumble will be available in the game out-of-the-box.. we "just" need the controller :|
  • Darren #18 4 years ago

If there's one complaint I have with the game it's that I cannot feel all the carnage but that's not really a fault of the game. I wonder if rumble code is included in this game, ready to be used once the DualShock 3 is released in November (Japan only I know)? It'd be nice. I do miss rumble in PS3 games you know. :(

@Les - You're the exact opposite of me, those things that don't annoy you, irk me! LOL

Whatever you do, please don't get into games design! ;)

  • lennon #19 4 years ago

@Beano - How much effort is it? Any link to how its done?

  • Darren #20 4 years ago

@Beano - Oh that's cool. The game gets an extra mark from me then for that plus it has subtitles too, which is another mark (as I have hearing problems you see).
  • Steroyd #21 4 years ago

Insomiac are going to patch Resistance to enable rumble so...
  • drumbaby #22 4 years ago

What a beautiful looking game. Plays well too.

Another buy, along with Folklore and Uncharted.
  • Beano #23 4 years ago

    @lennon: It's pretty easy...

    1) Create a new user profile (master account) on the PS3 (far left option on the XMB under "Users";).

    2) Now log into that user profile.

    3) Under "Friends" in the XMB (far right option) where should be a "Sign up" option (or similar)

    4) Now create a new PSN account with a fake US address. Zip code and city must be correct though.
You'll need a new e-mail account also since you can only have one PSN account pr. e-mail address.
Also, if you plan on buying games from the US Store with a credit card, you must use you real name since that's used as card holders name" also.

Now you should be able to download stuff from the US PS Store - enjoy ;)

"First time I'm jealous :p ratchet looks awesome, played all 4 previous ones (last one sucked big time, good choice on going back to the roots)"

Blasphemy! I loved the last one...

And several posts from Darren without any mention of jaggies? Whats this world coming too? Ooh and those wondering if theres rumble support, yes there is.
  • thinred #25 4 years ago

Great demo. First one in quite a while that's left me asking for more when it was over. Great graphics and gameplay, and lots of sense of humor.

    I'll definitely pick this one.

  • tonynibbles #26 4 years ago

    This game has rumble :)

Great demo. Awesome. Not sure why anyone took all night to download it - I got it, plus conan, plus 1Gb of trailers overnight. NTL 1mb...
  • Beano #27 4 years ago

@Darren - That's a bummer :( .... but the volume balancing between effect and voices seemed a bit off to me also. But didn't try to adjust it either.

I was also missing a "invert Y-axis" option in the game - hopefully this will be in the retail version?

I have a USA account and i'm Downloading the Ratchet demo now...but i think Europe shouldn't be waiting for all this PSN stuff, it's just irritating.

I only buy stuff on the European PSN network, i really only use the USA PSN to download free stuff, just easier for me.
  • Les #29 4 years ago

"but i think Europe shouldn't be waiting for all this PSN stuff, it's just irritating."

As long as Sony sticks to its stric localisation policy, it's not so much Europe waiting as the US getting it early (compared to Live).
  • Beano #30 4 years ago

  • Les #31 4 years ago

That's true. The Yanks should wait for us! ;)
  • lennon #32 4 years ago

@Beano - Ok I glazed over after the second point. :)

    Think I will wait.
  • Beano #33 4 years ago

Your loss... but it's really easy ;)
  • penguin_overlord #34 4 years ago

Wow! I was just playing this demo. Fantastic! I've never been a fan of the R&C games but this one looks like a lot of fun. Amazing graphics! Insomniac really are the jewels in the PS3's crown right now, what with this and Resistance: FOM (which was criminally under-rated).

This is the sort of game that the 360 is lacking this Christmas.
  • oreillymj #35 4 years ago

I've got 2Mb broadband, but PS3 downloads have always been slow from day 1.

The 850Mb GT demo took all day to download back in March.

Maybe the wireless speed isn't great.
  • penguin_overlord #36 4 years ago

PS3 downloads are slow, especially the dreaded firmare upgrades. However, I do remember reading a few weeks back that Sony had bought up a company that specialised in speeding up download times. Can't remember the name but hopefully we'll see the impact of that soon.

It took me about four hours to download this demo on a 2MB line.
  • Beano #37 4 years ago

In my experience, PSN download speeds vary a lot depending on the time of day I'm trying.

Morning and before-noon'ish is usually best.

Downloaded the R&C demo this morning in about 30-45 min.
  • Darren #38 4 years ago

penguin_overlord - "This is the sort of game that the 360 is lacking this Christmas."

I'm surprised that hasn't attracted "comments" from Xbox 360 "fanboys". LOL

To be honest though, while Ratchet and Clank Future will undoubtedly sell well on the PS3 - and not just because the machine doesn't have many other decent games I might add - I think it's the sort of thing that would be overlooked on the 360 as it's too cartoonish. That said, it's a shooter so maybe not...
  • belziah #39 4 years ago

Trying to d/load demos from the US store as soon as they've been put can take time but, I've never had a problem till RnC.

Started it last night and it still had a third to go this morning. Bastard thing made me late for work cos I had to have a go.

Never played a RnC game before(more of a JnD man) but, damn if this game dont look good. The three minutes I got to play this morning showed a good sign of things to come.

The gameplay better not go downhill after the first three minutes.

If anyone can tell me how to register a UK debit/credit card to a US PSN account, please give me a shout...
I tried registering both my Debit Card and my Missus Credit Card on the US PSN, but when I get to the next page it asks for a US address (the fake one I registered the account to to access it) and then when I just confirm it, it tells me the information is not valid (likely cross checking our UK card details against the fake US address!)
    Any ideas?
  • GamesConnoisseur #41 4 years ago

as I understand you need to get online credit account based in USA and set up a fund there but having not tried it myself and actually cant be arsed to go about it, so Beano or someone like him would need to give a pointers on this. Google it up alternatively, I know you cannot just use your UK credit/debit cards to make it work. I did try use my missus card previously too but nope!

Tried the demo, yes almost no difference to prevous iteration inc my PSP copy, but do have more actions on screen and in higher def obviously. Looks quite nice.

Also likewise appreciated the subtitles option as would not be able to understand the audio only dialogues and thus would have missd out a great part of the appeal from the characters interactions.
  • Gaol #42 4 years ago

I use my UK mastercard on the US site no probs, depends on the card tbh. Make sure you use a real address too.

I seem to remember at launch folks with visas had much more difficulty, presumably security better on those cards.
  • byron_hinson #43 4 years ago

Excellent demo and excellent graphics - not near pixar but close. Really enjoyable too which is the main thing considering how anything half decent is missing on the Playstation 3 at the moment.
  • deaner #44 4 years ago

    Did I click Yankgamer?

    Oh.
