Rare will fix Banjo display glitch after all

Fans with SD tellies have feelings too.

Rare has about-turned and decided to fix the problem with text that occurs when Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is played on a standard definition telly.

"We would like to assure you that, contrary to earlier reports, we are aware of the issue and currently working on a title update to be released within the next 30 days that will fix it for those with standard definition TVs," Rare Community manager George Kelion told MundoRare.

"We're committed to ensuring all fans of the franchise are able to have the best experience possible with Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts."

Kelion had previously told us a fix was "simply something that's too expensive in terms of time, resources and money to alter".

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts will be released to the public this Friday.

Head over to Eurogamer's Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts review for our verdict.

Well done Rare and great news for SD TV owners. :)

The question is will this title update make the text more readable for those of us with HDTVs too? And will it fix the annoyance in the demo where character dialogue in the cutscenes disappears off screen too quickly for me and presumably others to read? I consider myself a quick reader but the text in the demo disappears when I'm half way through it! If this happens constantly in the game then it will annoy me as I love the Banjo-Kazooie games and pay attention to all the dialogue and cutscenes.

It'll be £20 before christmas, just like Viva Pinata. I really was rooting for Rare on this this as I thought they'd lost the plot when changing direction with this but gave the benefit of the doubt.

Played the demo and it was a sack of shit.

Rare, if you were in band i'd be begging you to split up. What else will you fuck up. I know, redo Jet Force Gemini but as a card battle game.

It was probably MS that dished out a few slaps and told them to sort it out!
where were they when some prick said, i know lets completely change a winning formular and destroy a well loved franchise in one go!!!!!

    @farticusmaximus

I don't think anyone would complain if the game was amazing. However, it wasn't ,and that's why people are moaning. Including me.
  • Gl3n #11 3 years ago

Sounds more like the community manager was just acting out on his own accord with his original comments, only to get spanked by a higher up.

Even after the good-but-not-great reviews Banjo-Kazooie: N&B has been getting, I'm still excitedly looking forward to getting the full game (hopefully) on Thursday as it looks like it could be my own personal Game of the Year judging by the demo which I adored.

As a huge fan of the N64 games (to put it mildly), this new game does still feel like Banjo-Kazooie in terms of humour, characters, settings, visuals, music and even gameplay. I mean the object of the game is still to collect stuff (jiggies and music notes) only the worlds are now so big that Banjo use vehicles as well instead of walking everywhere. The level design means that the vehicles become the solution to many of the puzzles and I like that alot. It might appear to be a different game but the core elements are still just the same really. I applaud Rare for taking that brave decision instead of just churning out a remake of the first and second games with HD graphics as people originally expected.

And perhaps Rare will learn from this experiement and go on to forge new ideas, fixing the quibbles from past experiments.

The last gen was saturated with B&K looking platformers, so its good to see new directions being taken.

So all of a sudden its not too expensive or difficult to fix?
There is a lot to be said for people having a voice and complaining. They obviously could not bear the negative publicity.

Good news for those with no HDTV.
Like Darren, I'm quite looking forward to it, not expecting it to be mindblowing, just a bit of fun.

As I told you guys, dispite the usual ignorant responses. As a developer, a display font fix is trivial to do. It's the re-testing they wanted to avoid.

You guys really should be informed enough by now to know when a software house is feeding you completely BS reasons for not fixing this or that in their games.

I played the demo on a 1080p 46" screen and thought the text was too small (and as Darren, disappeared too quickly).

So, during testing this wasn't picked up because of......... what?

Forget that playing it on an SD screen will just compound the problem, it's bloody obvious on an HD screen!

Anyone wish the re-release of Banjo on Live could use the assets from the N&B disk?
  • cagool #26 3 years ago

C'mon FrankCannon, give it another go. Or is it too expensive or difficult to fix?
  • Steroyd #27 3 years ago

but when people played it there would have been floods of posts saying 'but it's just the same old thing with an HD skin'.

I'd highly doubt that, it's been 10 years since the last B&K game, and with the current climate of shooters and racers galore it'd be a godsend if they could do the same old thing brought into the 21st century.

besides how is that different from this gen anyway, only difference is it's been 10 years since the last one there's next to no platformers outside of Mario Galaxy there's more points a HD remake-ish sequel could work more than not.

Seriously.. GET YOUR ASSES TO THE 21ST CENTURY! HDTV's are NOT expensive.

I am not getting a new TV just for the sake of seeing my games HD, it's a console not a damn PC.

So this is to fix the text being very small is it? Sorry, missed the internet controversy. Although I agree, it is stupidly small even on an HD set, and disappears far, FAR too quickly. Hopefully the patch'll fix that, too.

Dunno why people are slagging off the game though. It's great fun. Might "only" be a 7, or an 8 tops, but that's a great score IMO.

I also think this will be quite entertaining. Besides, it's priced at only $40.00 here in the US ($37.something at Amazon), plus I get the Live! version of BK free for preordering.

Seems like a good deal to me...
  • beastmaster #32 3 years ago

So, Banjo fixed. I'll wait till this fix is ready for download and then purchase.

As far as platformers go, I'd love to see a few good ones on the 360. If Banjo 1 sells bucket loads then perhaps someone will take notice. There is Tomb raider coming up soon and that's looking good.
