Is this not like a GRID rip off?

Cant wait for this, after being addicted to RACE and the community that was built up around that title was amazing. No where have I had a racing experience as close or as fair as on the SimBin titles. People who play these titles arent the usual kiddies, its all fair racing and thats half of what makes these titles so good.
This is a definite for me, no question. Looks beautiful to. PLEASE EG keep the coverage for this title flowing! :)

I suppose it is early days, but the question that immediately enters my head is "What are you to give me that is new". I rather hope they have a good answer.

Assuming it stays roughly inline with Simbin tradition, it will be unlike anything you've seen on a console since F355 Challenge. The level of technical detail, the handling, the AI, it's all absolutely top notch on the PC games (I'm still playing GT Legends and GTR2) and makes the "sim" claim of the likes of Gran Turismo seem a little pathetic.
A 30 minute race on GTR2 in Simulation Mode is physically tiring, the level of concentration needed to keep your car pointing the right way AND challenging the AI is pretty big.
It's a love or hate it game, you either get it or you don't, but it's worth perserving if you do struggle initially as it's hugely rewarding, and 95% of online players take it seriously online so there is little or no stupidity.
As for the in-car view, the PC version has a lot of adjustability available in the seating position...and it is an actual seating position, not a camera plonked somewhere in the cabin with a steering wheel.

Come on, even sim review sites now accept GT5P is up there with the better PC sims, I'm a PC simmer myself.
As for Race Pro, it should be good, I just wish it was on the PS3 so I good use a proper wheel. '

It shouldn't haven't nothing to do with snobery, I say with absolutly no complexes whatsoever that I don't realy like sims (the "realer" the worse) But that's me, I take no pleasure in driving "realisticaly" in my living room.

But in all, I think racing games in general are one of my favourite genres, precisely because they are a complete test of skill. You cannot get lucky with them. Even unrealistic racers need a good degree of skill and a great racing line.
Nothing beats SNES Super Mario Kart for this though. Everyone who says different is wrong because their opinion is different to mine.

"They're all played on a 2D screen and are a million miles from the real thing."
Not really that true - with a good wheel (im talking G25 here with clutch) the feeling of the vehicles movements underneath you is seriously uncanny.
Braking on an off camber hill and trying to turn in to an apex the wheel can simulate the weight shift, the gradual building under steer and finally the steering going light until you ease off the power, let the weight re-adjust and then dial in the correct amount of steer angle - its very satisfying. Equally if you bang down the gears too early on the approach to a corner you can feel the rear axle struggle, locking up the rear wheels and guide the car in on the brakes with a beautiful slip angle.
Anal as hell, but seriously, try it. I guarantee you will be AMAZED at how realistic it is.
Note: im not saying it is as real as driving, but for a 2d interface it is remarkable what they can achieve - the game has moved on significantly.

"What are you to give me that is new"
The challenge of mastering all the available vehicles is all i need - every single vehicle is unique, which in turns turn every track into a unique prospect, it keeps the game fresh for a very very long time. imho :)
EDIT: also - i'll still wait for the ferrari game from Blimey! over this :)

The "onion skin" effect on Grid (supposedly to smooth playback) is really off putting on sharp corners that have a vertical structure marking the apex of the corner i.e. most of San Fran. It becomes very blurry - more so than either of the PGR games imo.

Don't know why people don't use hyperbole more subtle. Calling these shots "horrible" instantaneously outs you as being a troll, and a bit of a dumb one, too.

Either you don't have a 360 and are in love with your PC, or you have some sort of gripe elsewhere.
The graphical problems you have stated are not present.
Why can't people just look forward to a company pushing forward rather than getting hooked up on past titles. This should be exciting for anyone who enjoys a good SIM racer.
