vanilla architecture.

Well it is mostly snow...

Anyway, the innovative things in this game, is most of the time wasted on scripted sequences and not in actual gameplay. It doesn't really act very terrifying either.

"-Oh my god, we're in an room filled with human and alien intestants all over the wall."

"-Yeah, it is just as the last 17 rooms we've been in."

You get the point.

what next, a Mario 64 review?

*We didn't get sent a copy of this *big puppy eyes* so we were forced to buy it 2nd hand from GameStation in order to bring the EG readers the best possible service.*

If a company want's their game reviewed, they better send a review copy.

on a more serious note, why not start reviewing demos? I'd like see a critical light brought to bear on some demos and there are plenty out there... haegomonia, grom, VC... waddya reckon guys? I think that some EG readers would find it useful, especially when you have some demos weighing in at 300MB each and not all of us have a T1 line and DVD burner at work (and some of us do and it's attached to a Mac... noooooooo!)

Hey, as we've pointed out in the past, Vivendi is the only publisher in the country that can't be arsed to service EG with pre release code. If they can't be arsed to give us review code, and then give us a boxed copy three weeks after it's come out, we're hardly likely to jump to it and review it the second it arrives, given that there were about 150 games to choose from in the run up to Xmas...

Demo reviews? Yeah, why not. I'm not averse to the idea, although it's not that different to the first impression pieces we do. Obviously there's sod all out in January, so the more creative ideas to fill the void the better.

Reviewing demos is a pretty good idea actually. Even if it was only a short paragraph or two.

Maybe we as the EG readership can just post demo impressions once the news item gets posted on the main page...?

As for The Thing, you could just go buy the film and have some change left over for Big Trouble...

Now you mention it, WRC2's on the agenda for next week. We should have covered all the major releases up to Xmas by about Jan 18th, then we've still got another month of sod all coming out. But hopefully by that stage we'll have a lot of preview code for spring releases.

Maybe cause they think EG is not worth the postage cost?

Sim City 4? Yep, EA is superb for dishing out preview and review code. Martin's playing it now, I believe.

I must disagree with everybody else. For me, this is the perfect time for EG to review "The Thing", as I was struggling to resist Gameplay's price for the Xbox version (£24.99). It's going to be easier now. Thanks, Krudster.

rapid demo review guide

Haegomonia (sp): get a geforce 4, quick!
Grom: crippled by hideous counter intuitive interface and 'curious' AI
Splinter Cell: memory hungry, but nice touches, mouse wheel acceleration technique will confuse all fraggers at first
Bloodrayne: patchy, tetchy, buggy but alluring in a way that only a game featuring a pneumatic female vamp in stockings can be...
Impossible creatures: the jury's still out
Warcraft 3: massive well crafted demo sucks you in
Age Of Mythology: If you like the genre, you'll love the little touches like the jumping jackal-headed men of jerusalem and trees that uproot and attack, if not then there's not much here for you
