Nice to come back & read a good review of a stonking game and a half-decent thread with a few enjoyable rants, it even staggered on about halfway down before petering out into surrealism, all in all, a fine job chaps well done.

RL is without a doubt a superb game. Its beauty is that despite being seriously difficult in places it appeals also to people who are not normally fans of the genre and is quite forgiving of shiteness (you just don't get medals). Above all, as someone said, it's the atmosphere that sucks you in. This has displaced monkeyball and Luigi on my machine for the time being, and will do for a while to come. And now I've finally got my RGB cable, it looks even better - 'cept now I can see the jaggies...

Best sitcom ever: Young Ones (followed closely by League of Gentlemen).

Jaffa Cakes: you may be able experience the ultimate pleasure in Scandinavia too if you get 'Lu' biscuits (a Danone brand I think) - they sell jaffaesque cakoids under the name 'Pims' - but be sure to get the orange ones!

"After spending millions on CGI to create Jar Jar, the pod race sequence, Naboo, the end battles etc etc"

For me that was part of the problem - everything had that tacky fake CGI look to it, from the aliens to the space ships, all of which were horribly bright, gleaming and reflective. I prefer the models and muppets from the original trilogy, which had that nice "one not very careful owner" look to them.

"And every time Anakin yells 'Yippee!'"

Eugh, don't get me started...

Agreed. I just rounded off my return trip to the original trilogy last night and had this view reconfirmed. However you could also see where the series was heading in Episode VI with those bloody Ewoks and all the 'light relief'...

I'm pretty sure the day will come in the not-too-distant future when the current obsession with CGI effects will look as cheesy as the old Ray Harryhausen plasticine dinosaurs. A classic film will never earn that status on effects alone, there's got to be a bit more to it, Episodes IV & V had that but none of the others imho...

Yeah, I heard, he's all CGI isn't he? & the review I read said he was the best thing in it... Oh dear...

He is all CGI. It doesn't look the same as Muppet Yoda.

Personally I don't see the problem. In ESB you know Yoda is being fisted by a puppeteer. In AOTC you know he was animated by a, er, animator. It looks different, but it isn't a problem (to me, at least).

Despite my gaming anti-fanboy stance, I have to say that George Lucas 'OWNS' me. I am, therefore, a Star Wars fanboy, and proud of it.

How can you remain objective about a film series that changed your life???

Do the better looks from the RGB outweigh the jaggies? Even if its a close thing could you say as £20 means a lot to me

terminal - you want my honest opinion? No. Keep the 20 quid and save it for SSBM. Right now I'll go and take cover before Whizzo ssuellid & super stu get here and tell me how wrong I am ;)

eek! /cowers

well there certainly is a difference not disputing that, but a difference you can wait until Christmas or your birthday for and put the 20 quid towards another game instead. At the end of the day the game's as much fun without it.

Thanks otto, I probably will put it towards SSBM, but I know that once I get an RGB cable/see a friend use one, I'll probably never go back.

Thing is, its not quite that simple as I have my DVD player using up the sole RGB slot on my telly (and very nice picture it gives too), but my GameCube is fine for me at the moment

Is it just me or are the 2 star destroyers you have to take out in the Battle of Endor much easier to kill than in Razor Rendezvous? also the handy way the game slants you so you can fly past whilst hammering the shield gens on both makes me miss with my torpedoes

Well I'm still trying to take out the SD in Razor Rendezvous, it's a total bitch, for some reason my proton torpedoes aren't making any dents in it. :P

I've managed it several times now. :o)
Have you found the proton torpedo upgrade yet? And the shield and laser upgrades as well? Makes it a hell of a lot easier.
I can email you if you'd like pointers as to where they are......

Wasn't so much a case of trying to weasel it out of him, as giving the poor guy a break - he's been saying it so many times with no-one picking up on it, I thought he deserved some recognition ;)
