First rule of Editorship: reserve the right to change your mind about who's going to review what if you find out they're actually quite good!

God, I come across as a graphics whore, but I am again amazed about the praise for the graphics. Saw a review of this on TV, and it looked quite exactly like Rayman 2 on the PC, not bad, but just lightyears behind SFA, J&D, R&C, SR, SMS.

"its competition is just too strong."

Not on the 'Cube it isn't. Only those of us who own a PS2 (and hence Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Sly Racoon) see any strong competiton.

UncleLou, see for yourself. Even on a massive 36" widescreen TV it's lovely; and even the best games trip up on this beast.

True, but anecdotal evidence suggests that the majority of Cube owners also have a PS2....

I loved Rayman 2 so realy loking forward to this. Not much luck with the GC-GBA link up though, both the GC&GBA instructions are very vague. Looking forward to the link up games reviews.

Is it me or does this review not even mention the GBA link-up feature? This alone makes it better than the other versions coming out.

Not me... Cube only here. But I do *want* a PS2, does that count?

I haven't got a PS2 either, but its only a matter of time - until I pay off my christmas credit card bills and pick up a PS2, that is. Got an x-box though, but that's no use for platformers.

Yes, it is just you. Kristan said "there are also a number of GBA link-up games, which we will tell you all about in the near future in a separate review". This is because Ubi Soft hasn't sent us the GBA version yet.

If they haven't sent you the GBA version yet, maybe they've got some reason to hide it.

But, isn't there one link up where you only need the GBA. It's the Tetris like one.

Rayman: Annoying and French.

Although I have to admit I'm confused as to what to feel about the French these days! One moment they're testing nukes in the Pacific (bad) and the next they're bugging the hell out of the yanks (good).

Oh no, please don't turn into another war thread /pleads/

I'm going to have to be a little nasty and say I've never been one for Rayman, it's a character I just don't like.

Yep the manual says that you dont need GBA Rayman to play some of the link games. So a review of those would belong here rather than in the GBA version review.
When EG do get it work, please tell us how, I couldnt figure it out with or without the GBA version.

Reto:
You have to unlock the 3rd (I think) mini game in the Gamecube version. Load your game and then select this mini game in the bonuses section. You'll be prompted to connect your GBA when it starts - you don't need the GBA version. Its a racing game where the GBA player has to build the track for you.

Bunch of arse. To unlock the extra GBA levels you have to collect 100 lums (on the GBA). The link up facilty so far extends to a racing game where the GBA player plays a tetris style game, which in turn build a track for the GC player to drive on - and this is the one that requires no GBA cart. Unlocking mini games in the GC requires a lot of points.

I'm not even half way in and i've got 6 mini-games including the GBA one. If you collect all the jewels its pretty easy to unlock them.

I'm nearly at the end of the game, and still only seven mini games are available (only one of which is a GBA link up). It's a real chore going back through levels, when the only point is to clean up. In games like J&D, you often found yourself clearing up on route to another level, rather than having to click on the menu select, manually loading it in and having to fight through the same monsters all over again. And how irritating is it to play through one level for as long as an hour, and run out of lives meaning you have to start that level from scratch? That's hideous old school gaming evilry that should have a law against it.

I played this over my mate's house, and found it was really rather good, and I noticed none of the downfalls that the reviewer mentioned!
