"you can't do first-person shooters on a handheld"

Funny, I remember Metroid Prime Hunters comprehensively shooting down that argument over a year ago...

yep you can play FPS on a console, but its like playing a flight sim/driving game with a mouse and keyboard, it just don't feel right....

Yes, it should control perfectly for those who have three hands...

The stench of poop has been hanging around R6 vegas for quite a while, so the score is no surprise, I was hoping Dead Head Fred might muster an 8 though, as the Kid Chameleon/Majora's Mask idea interested me. I haven't bought Crush or Exit 2 yet, so I'll have to grab them instead. Looks like Capcom Puzzle World will lead to a 3.52 firmware in the next couple of days, Sony were pretty fast sorting the Metal Slug Anthology problem.

I've played a lot of Puzzle Fighter (ps1) in the past week, and am a bit surprised by the praise it is given here. Luck seems more important than skill, rounds are usually short, comebacks are rare, and you never get a chance to look at the character animations.

I played a very similar jap-only PS1 game which had the characters behind the blocks, the gameplay was much better, but I forgot the name. If i'm not mistaken, it's a pretty successful series over there.

Jeez developers - can you stop releasing shit PSP games!?

Jeez Sony - why did you release a handheld that's crippled for certain game types?!

By the way, I never played Goldeneye (feel free to verbally smack me - my brother still has it on his N64 at home, but I just laugh when I see that controller - as I did in '96) - can a first person shooter using these controls work well by 2007 standards?

I guess in 2007 we've had Rainbow Six Vegas on the PSP and Farcry on the Wii - so not too hard to beat those shoddy standards, eh?

ryz.

I've just sold my PSP. By and far it was the worst tech purchase I ever made - which is a crying shame.

CP1 emulator has Arcade perfect version of Super Fighter Puzle ...
you just need the rom. Isn't affected by the firmware bug.

LACERO-- No release date yet for Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground
But just import the american version it works fine no teritory lockouts on PSP Jap/amirican imports all work fine.

I have sunk about 30 hours+ into DM-HG so far its not bad a sort of rogue/dungeon keeper type clone. Designing the dungeons is well done but gets a little repetitive in the end.. prolly 7/10 score wise.

Sorry, but I have mate. Just sold it. Didn't play it. Controls were awful. Stupid loading times. Not for me.

Worst tech purchase. And I bought a Mac Cube ;-)

Actually I'm lying i've never had a DS nor do i want one...

After putting open edition firmware on the PSP it gets more use than any console / PC i've ever owned. Best tech purchase ever.

AlMcD yup opinions are fully welcome just balancing things out.

Wouldn't want people to miss out on the open firmware potential the PSP has.

Loading games off of memory card removes the loading time problem makes everything much faster.

I share Dan's enthousiasm for Super Puzzle Fighter Turbo II. It's definitely a great game!

But if you're looking for a portable version, why not pick up the fine GBA port? It came out years ago.

Dungeon Maker is about $40 on amazon.com or about £20
should qualify for free shipping too. If you by a preowned copy for $36 you should avoid import duty as well as its not new.

I cannot beleive that Capcom Puzzle World didnt get slaughtered for being pathtically light on content.

3 variations of SPF2, Pang and the super crappy Block Block is not good value.

Yes, on its own SPF2 is worth a 9. Its one of the best puzzlers ever. But as a package, Capcom Puzzle World is weak. WEAK I SAY!!!

And no amount of taking screen shots to use as wallpaper can change that!

No worries Mingster.

True, re running games of memory card. Although you wonder why Sony haven't gone down that route with the new PSP. Stick 4Gb nand memory in there, sell games through PSN following the iTunes model - sounds like a winner.

Although software is key. For me that's what it lacked most of all. I guess I got bored of waiting for Gran Turismo!

And R6-V...looks like another chapter of the 'how to botch a PSP title from the concept onwards' school. Shame.

It's ridiculous isn't it? That was the first game they demoed - they even had the cover artwork and UMD - on the machine and now...nothing. Zip.

"Time was, people used to scoff that you couldn't do first-person shooters *as well* on a console. Halo fans by the million shouting in unison to drown out the voice of reason 'disproved' that notion"

Fixed.

You can do FPS on a PSP. Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex for PSP wasn't a masterpiece, but once you got used to it, it was great fun.
