Completely agree. I hired this out at the weekend and had a very similar experience to Tom.

The fact that the metal ambience music keeps looping while you're platforming was what made me finally stop trying to enjoy the game.

but I've still yet to hear a decent explanation as to why Ubisoft replaced the warm and friendly fireside glow of the Sands of Time with the cold, uninviting gothic angst of Warrior Within
...

Porting Warrior Within to the PSP was a bizarre decision. Almost universally regarded as the worst since the series' revival

krudster, I've been to the Ubisoft PoP forums recently, and there are DOZENS of people who hated SoT, loved WW, and complained about TTT being too much like SoT. They miss the badass attitude, the music, ans what they think is "maturity" from WW.

So as worrying as it is, the success of WW probably wasn't only on the back of the quality of SoT, but people really preferred it.

I know forums aren't representative, but there wasn't only one thread like this, and not only one or two persons who preferred WW.

A significant proportion of the human population are sad, angst-ridden teenboys. The best thing to do is to remember that they normally grow out of it.

In any case, we'll always have Sands of Time.

Gameplay wise was very slightly better PoP: Sands of Time. In every other way PoP: WW suits my tastes better than Sands of Time and Two Thrones.

It was because of great mood and style of WW, not because of music. Surely, I love all sorts of metal and rock, but definitely not Yankee nu-metal in Godsmack style. Dark Prince is simply more interesting than naive ordinary Prince. Therefore my vote goes to PoP WW and PoP Revelations.

*Sigh* After SoT I tried to get back into the series with Two Thrones but alas - I just can't get over the shitty atmosphere and crap main character.

You know, the fact that it is a 'dark' game doesn't matter me so much, but Ubisoft doesn't understand what a good 'dark' game requires. The prince really feels like a boy - as the reviewer points out - that mopes about having to clean up his room.

If Ubisoft really wants to do 'dark' they should take some lessons from Kratos in GoW

Max, what is it you don't like about the Prince in Two Thrones? He's pretty much the same character he was in SoT. Did you mean Warrior Within?

Why do you think official forums of any game are often seen as the place where the most moronic of the fans gather?

Excuse me? Hello?

Can we have an actual review of POP:Revelations on PSP now please?

I don't give a toss about how this game compares to a different chapter on another format. Critique the gameplay sure, but don't waste all those lovely words on mardy guff. What I want to know about are things like loading times, frame rates, art and sound quality...

Sounds like EG are the ones in a teenage strop.

"gave the Prince the air of a child refusing to tidy his bedroom when nobody ever asked him to in the first place."

Classic line. :)

Speaking of frustration, when PES 5 frustrates me on the PSP I have to fight the urge to put the PSP up to my mouth and bite it. But I've never thrown or broke a control pad in my life.

Well they should've ported both SOT and WW and sold the two as a single bundle that would have been nice. This way each party is satisfied ... But I guess I live in a dream world ....

Kratos and his adventures were fine, but too epic for my tastes. PoP: WW was more about inner darkness of our little hero Prince which is my cup of tea. What I really want is dark game in more civil way. Give me some rather average man or woman as a hero of his/her personal matter. There are many people, which must confront their own demons and darkness every day. Why don't developers at least try to draw inspiration from their stories? Maybe they should spend few days or hours in some sanatorium..

Tom, stop kicking WW, please... It is nearly dead already. IMHO, it was a very good game. In fact, it was only the third game which I decided to complete once again (well, the first two were Doom and Quake). Why? The Story, The Characters, The Atmosphere, The ****** EVERYTHING!!! It would be a perfect, if not a suddenly pretty challenging 'tutorial' boss... I nearly broke my teeth grinding the pad after 20+ 'one more try'... I just played the demo before where she wasn't that hard and so I knew what a lovely game to expect... after going to the dentist ;-)

This is the best platformer on the PSP.
Excellent graphics,
excellent music.

Tough starter boss but the camera system and puzzles and environment seem great so far (ive just unlocked the time controlling thing).

I've not played all the way through but I can tell that this is a top notch game.

I agree with Chocnut, and had so much to say on the matter that I added my comments as a user review.

Interestingly, this game has been fully underrated by several boards, but the user review scores seem to tell the real story this time round.

I don't agree with the review. At first, I didn't like WW. First boss kicked me about 5 times, I didn't like the new Prince. But I tried again, after a few days - to find out, that the game is MUCH BETTER than SOT (or TT). The music, the atmosphere, the fighting system. Interesting story, good characters, Dahaka runs...

I played Revelations for about an hour (downloaded it to see if it's worth buying). The ONLY thing I don't like is reduced gore (no slicing the enemies in two :P). The rest is BRILLIANT. All the time I was looking the PSP screen and asking myself "how is that possible - the game is nearly the same as on PS2!".

It's one of the few games on PSP that are 100% worth buying.

I think that the reviewers just don't like WW... I played Burnout Legends for a while - crappy graphics, port of the old game, sometimes buggy. And it gets really good reviews. But when other not-new game (WW) is ported ALMOST PERFECT - people don't like it.

I don't get it.
