Can't believe Namco is turning Pac-man in some kind of emo, wall climbing Snake mullet blob.

Namco: stop releasing this crap and give us PAL releases of Tales of Legendia and Tales of the Abyss.

Pac-Man used to be a cute little space hippy. Now he's ugly and demonic and looks like he would creep in to your bedroom late at night, take off your big toe with a single bite and then cackle maniacally as he leapt up the duvet and started on your eyes.

This is officially the most spot-on thing I have ever read on the Internet.

Enough is enough, Pac-Man. It's time for you to be packed off to Namco's Shady Pines Retirement Home for Rubbish Old Game Characters, where you can spend the rest of your days playing Bridge with the blokes out of Time Crisis and knocking back all the pills you like for all we care.

As of this moment, I'm boycotting Ellie. The world needs more Wild Dog.

"So what happened to the x out of 5 scores for kiddie-titles? "

Sounds like they just had beef with the title and wanted to give it the full onslaught of their vindictiveness…Rating children’s games as adult titles, shame on you EG ;)

Would my 9-year-old nephew like this, I wonder?

It might be better than the usual crap companies peddle to children?

I think children are pretty savvy really.

Unless it's a "educational" game based on Barney and having a kid younger than say 8 sitting at the PC with a parent I think it's fair to rate it using a 10 scale.

Oh, and since when was pac man a kid's game? Surely that's the crux of the situation?

Precisely! Why does everything have to be new, new, new and "updated" where the update just doesn't "fit".

Hopefully we might see Pac-land 1, 2 and 3 on Nintendo's Virtual Console (published by Hudsonsoft on the PC Engine).

well, i picked up on this:

"It's not that Pac-Man World 3 is intolerable to play; shonky camera and stuttering frame rate aside, it all works reasonably well, with plenty of elements from games like Jak and Daxter, Sly Raccoon and Ratchet and Clank making an appearance"

He loves those games, but even J & D throw around the occassional swear-word or adulty theme. I'm guessing that Pac Man doesn't have a 'potty mouth' (even though, judging by this review, it probably is used as one ;)

Maybe i'm just showing my age, i dunno.

Pac Man isn't a kids game because kids don't give a monkeys about Pac Man. It's only us old-timers who even know who he is. He's not cool enough for the kids, he's the character your Dad likes. Like Mario.

Perhaps that is a common misconception, and one that Namco wished to rectify?

It certainly seems that they are trying to appeal to children, more than adults. I mean look at all that colour!

EDIT: oh and Mazzl, what do you think about it? Is it really as bad as the review makes out?

i just quit playing it, single player is to easy, i don't care about packmans caracter, thats a question of taste. but it is a really standard game.
if you like jumping on platforms, collecting coins then this could be fun, but it's not really. jump to one part of level, collect coin, smash some enemys, push lever, jump back to other part of level, enter lift. thats about it. not much innovation. if you like pacmans attitude it could be a bit more fun(after some beers).
its not that its a bad game, it just doesn't get under you're skin in any way

Yes, it's time for another substandard 3D platforming adventure from our old yellow friend with the big cheeky grin and the soulless eyes that burn with the fire of a thousand nightmares. Pac-Man World 3 has been released to celebrate his 25th birthday, which doesn't really make us feel any better about the whole thing. Uncle Namco, if you're reading this, please take note: no one cares about rubbish old stuff. That is why we no longer have VHS tapes or Kenny Loggins or slavery. And that is why we could do without any more Pac-Man games, frankly.

At last! Someone with balls. Somone not afraid to tell it like it is!

I love you Ellie!

Who thought turning Pac-Man into a platformer would be a good idea anyway? No thanks Namco, just get Ace Combat Zero out over here already please.

One of the most deliciously vicious reviews I've read in ages, certainly put a smile on my face.

I wish Namco would just get a clue and release a couple (that's less than the fingers on one hand, OK guys?) of the defining Pac-Man games on XBLA, and leave it at that. I think the original is on the way, but it'd be nice to see Pacmania on there too, and Pac-Land so we can happily run along the screen until missing the trampoline and falling into the water. Again.

Can't we get the National Trust or UN to declare classic videogame icons as National Heritage or Areas of Special Scientific Interest or sommat, and prevent deveopers ruining our history. It works for mouldy old buildings and bits of swamp and forest.

Actually, it was changed to "Pac" deliberately, for the US market, when it was observed that the letters on the cabinet could easily be graffiti’d to a less wholesome one. The original name was "Puck-Man".

This review actually, genuinely, not-just-the-usual-Internet-version made me laugh out loud twice in the space of a couple of sentences. Top stuff.
