"That's why Kristan gave Gears of War an 8 instead of the proposed seven...[joke alert! -Ed]"

Hey you hijacked your own review.

The introduction and the superb implementation of the skillstick justifies at least an 8.
The lack of content is important but not enough to lower the score to 7.

Yes because you can compare hockey and shooting games.

From that first paragraph I'd say that EA is finding ways to make sure they can port the exact same game across all the platforms, including the Wii. Without needing to do any mayor redesigning for that particular odd console.
"The right stick is your hockeystick" indeed. Likely Wii review "The remote is your hockeystick" etc.

Well, I can confirm that the right analogue stick really feels great after a while of playing. It's not quite like playing real hockey (unless you remember to slap yourself with the controller every once in a while, for that realistic pain factor) but it is hugely satisfying when you've managed to deke your friend and slap one in the top corner.. all by yourself!

But they (Eurogamer) are right. For some reason the Xbox 360 version of NHL is always a few steps behind the other versions. Fewer leagues, fewer players, fewer gameplay options, fewer of everything. Does next-gen mean fewer features with fancier graphics? I really do prefer the PS2/Xbox version of this game.

Unlike the other consoles out so far, the 360 supports microtransactions. So really, expect fewer stuff, the rest you'd expect to be in the package available for download after spending an extra ammount per feature on it.

Well frankly I don't think it's funny to make jokes about the score you gave to Gears of War. Your score was WRONG and you should just admit it!

"there are too many niggly technical issues that scar the gameplay for it to be deemed an essential sports game"

That comment is laughable. I've been playing EA's hockey games since the original EA Hockey on the Mega Drive and EA have made major advances with this years version.

It's a very solid game and I certainly haven't noticed anything worth worrying about to consider the gameplay 'scarred'.

I'm not one to complain about review scores too often but never in a million years is this game worth only a 7.

If EA made the same technical advances with FIFA as they have made with NHL then we wouldn't need to buy PES ever again. Yeah, NHL 07 is that good.

Steve, the frame-rate is crap, so crap that many find the game to be unplayable. So the only thing that's laughable is your OTT defense of a game that is far from perefct.

I think this game is pretty great, Pro Evo 6 and then GoW stole my attention away from it sadly. My biggest complaint is that it's REALLY hard to score in the higher difficulty levels... then again it could be that I just suck.

The frame rate is fine. If anyone finds this game being anywhere remotely close to an unplayable state then they should find some other hobby as this is no worse than the vast majority of games out there. Granted, it can get a bit choppy when playing online but it's the same for all EA Sports games on Live.

I didn't say the game is perfect - what game is? It's a damn fine sports game though, one of the very best.

Reviewer: "That's if Electronic Arts decides to surprise us all and make NHL 08. I can't see it myself."

What? Why wouldn't EA make NHL 08? They have made one every year for what, 15 years? They even made one during the lockout, and from what I understand, NHL 07 is selling pretty well in North America.

^ It's a joke, Devil Dancer.

The framerate isn't terrible, but it is iffy for online play. And the lack of content stings.
