'oh there'll be more, Motorstorm 2, Motorstorm 3, Motorstorm 4 etc etc. The series will gradually change up until they get to Motorstorm 4 when they'll realise that actually the first one was the best and change everything to be more similar to that but with better graphics. '

Replace Motorstorm with WipEout :)

Motorstorm is nowhere near good enough.
I don't need to play something for hours on end or watch it for hours on end.
It's simply nothing good or even remotely great.

Never play or look at a game before judging it.

"Maybe its just my expensive HDMI cable (I wanted the cheap official Sony one but they were all sold out, thank God) but the PS3 is producing incredibly sharp graphics compared to the 360. "

"Lolz, is it a MONSTER cable? Because if you clap your hands and say 'I believe in fairies' they do indeed make digital signals better. "

If you knew anything about cables, then you would know that gold-plated cables produce a significantly better picture.

I'm bloody awful at Motorstorm, but online play is brilliant fun. Raced about 20 times and have yet to win. Still, I'm not that bothered because it's such a laugh.

EDIT 1: @ Steroyd (just so everyone knows that this isn't just me bragging. Or that it's an offer open to everyone)

I have some Harrogate 'Lazy Sunday' coffee and some of my white chocolate torte (on homemade chocolate brownie base, too), if that'll do?

It's about 7000 calories a (thin) slice, though.

I think Motorstorm is absolutely fantastic, ESPECIALLY with the sixaxis motion sensing. This is absolutely great - I drive one-handed now and win races easily. Just give yourself half a second to get used to it (though my girlfriend - in her late thirties and not a gamer - got it instantly!)

The only thing to get used to is with the motorbikes. They don't just have the leaning part of the motion control, but you also influence their driving by leaning forward and backward. If you're driving away in the mud from a standstil, then make sure you lean forward and be a little easy on the throttle. Quite realistic really! Alternatively, boost can often help you get moving and hence be more stable quickly.

But in general, motion control FTUW. Online and Offline ... :)

Oh, and first person view ... absolutely friggin' awesome. Wow.

In my opinion "NO" but Motorstorm is well worth an 8/10. I look at the graphics in this game and think "If only Nintendo had gone HD then Excite Truck would have been a 10/10."

The EG review is pretty spot on actually. It's a very good, 8/10 game. If you like racers, especially arcade styled ones, you'll really like it.

I know this upsets many of you who want to argue that it's a 10/10 and the PS3 is FTWWW!, and equally those 360 rabidfanbois who want to say it's rubbish and not worth spending £400 on (who ever bought a console to play one game anyway?).

Still, there it is.

@jonthepymm - What with the PS3 and your gold plated monster cables, you appear to have more money than sense. In that case:

Agree with Arwin.

The tilt control is incredible. With a car, it took me 30 seconds to get the hang of it. The motorcycle is much more responsive and smaller motions are necessary - needed a couple of races to adjust.

The game has flaws, but it's easy to forgive them when the racing's so over-the-top.

Are all you Cable Guys really saying you can't tell the difference between good cables and bad? I recommend you all get the Wii. The graphics are just as sharp as PS3 and 360 in high definition. All these new fangled HD TVs are just designed to rip people off. Stick with your 14” CRT and ZX Spectrum; the graphics really haven’t improved much since then, it’s just people have been duped into thinking they have.

Im embarrassed for you.

In simple, easy to understand terms:

There is NO difference in performance between a £2 HDMI cable from Ebay and a £30 gold plated MONSTER cable from Currys. None at all.

The difference between everything you just said is that HDMI is a digital signal. To paraphrase the guy on the thread trousers linked to:

With a digital signal there is no degradation at all. The signal is either on or off and nothing inbetween.

In summary: You were badly ripped off and, worst of all, you are kidding yourself you can see a difference.

You're making a fool out of yourself. Indeed, it does matter what kind of stuff you use when you have an analogue signal. A digital signal however came into play and it is no longer dependant on the carrier format. You need better cables with analogue to prevent signal degradation, digital doesn't have signal degradation. It's 1's and 0's instead of waves.

And that's what's important: that you smile. Whether a fool can ever really be happy is up for philosophical debate for which this probably isn't the proper venue, given the majority of the posts here.

Reading this review, discovering that I wanted to play this game, checking the internet for HDTV prices and returning to reality made me realise that either there's a lot of very wealthy gamers around here or there's a great many that waste money on consoles that can generate a lot of pixels and nothing more, without even being able to view the added pixels. It's a mad world.

frod (frod?!!?!?!) is correct. If bits aren't transmitted or received correctly, how will your telly know whether it was a 0 or a 1? Or worse still, a stream of 0 or 1s. Also, the sort of person who cheapskates on cables frequently cheapskates on the hardware too, which probably equates to a 'HD' telly from woolies or Tescos and a 360. :oD Just kidding. Better quality cables means less errors.

I've only seen the ads for Motorstorm, but it sure does look good. Definitely looks like a generational leap in visual quality, whether it's actually any good to play or not.

(I haven't actually seen Gears in action yet, so I'm easily impressed)

I bought a gold super oxidised USB cable for my printer and since then the print quality has jumped loads.

Wait that sounds silly doesn't it? Same principle for any digital cabling - it either works or it doesn't. You don't get extra bits or round up those "stray bits" with better quality cabling.

Carrybagma: Heh I think you'll find that the protocol transferring bits over HDMI has error correction built in. Just as tcp/ip has.

I think it's funny that people accept that networking at 1Gbps over long distances is perfectly fine but that a short cable transferring 10.2Gbps requires gold.

I especially love the guys who need the optical cables that have golden connectors.

@trousers: Ok. So free-to-air digital then. Have you never a picture when the signal is poor? It causes the sort of picture frod described. Most receivers will attempt to compensate for the missing or corrupted info, but the drop in quality becomes obvious. Gold plated connectors don't improve pictures; rather, they go some way towards guaranteeing a good picture. Gold doesn't oxidise you see, ensuring a consistent signal. Just depends how bothered you are by such things.

@disc: Yeeeaaaah, but error correction can only cope with so many missing bits (or bytes) and don't forget in networks something will retransmit a missing/corrupted bit sequence or packet at most layers, whereas you just get glitches on a telly i.e. errors are 'allowed' if they cannot be corrected. And the 'quality' bit is missing the point of why some connections use gold. Shit. I'm really starting to paint myself into the 'gold plated stuff is bettah' corner here. Fuckit.

Poor quality cabling for digital sources can lead to dropouts, glitches and stray bits.

For example, take a look at the differences between cat3 and cat5, and then cat5e and ethernet cable approved for gigabit ethernet.

True, but then we are more talking about a faulty cable. A normal cable and a expensive cable will still reveal the same result.

I guess that as long as a cable is HDMI certified, it will be able to handle the massive amount of 0's and 1's error free, whatever the cable price is. When we are talking digital signal, we are more talking about bandwidth than connector quality.
