I was on the verge of buying MGS2 when they announced this. So I didn't buy it and waited for this. Ha! :-)

Some reports suggested that the PS2 version is better (slightly) in terms of visual and framerate. Can't remember where tho.

Yea, sucks they didnt spend more time on the Xbox version. Apparently it's because the original code was written for the PS2 only so(rain effects etc...) it was to hard to convert succesfully well :/

Yepsie, it's meant to suck scrot' on the rain effects, so if you have a PS2 I'd say check out that version first.......

the rain effects are faked, the drops and splashs are actually part of the character models which can be toggled on or off, they were going to use a more realistic approach of simulating proper rain but it slowed the PS2 right down.

when you consider this, there is no excuse to why it slows down on the xbox version other than a choddy conversion, i'll probably get substance on PS2 - if somebody can be nice enough to confirm a 60hz PS2 mode?

TBH there are much better things coming out than this this month. MGS2:SOL nearly drove me to distraction. It was a good game when you were allowed play the flipping thing. That said I don't think I will be picking this one up. Given a choice between the different versions though I think I would probably opt for the PS2 version since Konami did a complete shovelware effort on the Xbox port (i.e. f*ck all effort).

Nice, but since I own the original I won't be getting this just for the extra content. Save my pennies for the PC or PS2 version of Splinter Cell... not yet decided which.

Hmm... having read a few reviews of this one now I'm not sure whether to bother getting it or not. Everyone seems to be saying the same things, namely that the VR missions aren't really that interesting and the 'Snake Tales' bits are almost unplayable because of the lack of radar. Does anyone who owns this care to disagree? 'cos if not I think I'll just pick up a much cheaper 'original' version of MGS2 instead....

I have Sons of Liberty on PS2, and although I enjoyed it the first time, I thought it had way too many cut scenes and too much CODEC dialogue. Don't think I'll be bothering with this. Doesn't sound like they've improved anything, apart from adding tons more VR missions.

I rented it. I liked the VR Missions more than the actual game, which - no plot spoilers, but it really makes as much sense as hiring Britney Spears for the new Stannah Stairlift ads. And thats putting it mildly. The more you think about it, the more sense it makes, but I think for most the whole last section of the game will be lost.

Now, when do we actually get a MGS game SOLELY based on VR Missions? That may work more than continuing with the current storyline...

(And lets face it, did ANYONE get fooled by Plisken?)

Recently picked this up. The slowdown is aggravating, but seemingly only in the rainy sections - don't remember a 60hz option on the PS2 original and otherwise this is fast and fluid. I'm really enjoying the VR missions at the moment - the biggest fault of the main game is not enough core gameplay and it's amazing the quirks and tricks you pick up playing through the levels. Oh and the remixed DD5.1 is rather nice too.
