Judging by your sore wrists, Sega couldn't afford the legal insurance if it lasted an hour plus.

Nice review. But I am tempted by the thought of HOTD2+3 in one neat package for those arcadey, boozy evenings.

No info on the light gun. We heard it will be a third party accessory, but nothing confirmed.

Uh... they released a gun game but there's no gun?! What's going on there, then? :-)

They didn't release a gun cos they were scared that people might turn the gun on themselves when they realised they'd just shelled out 40 quid for a game that lasts half an hour

I found myself playing this in an arcade on the weekend, it has a rather satisfying pump action shotgun and all that and looked pretty amazing. Can't say that I'd enjoy it quite so much without a gun.

You'll all be pleasantly surprised how well it plays with the pad. The gun'll probably make things harder if anything!

Guns are coming from Radica and Madcatz - no official one though as I think Sega might have got out of doing hardware now :)

They did recently make the tambourine game and controller for the PSOne.

I dont like the way that the damage on the zombies looks like a texture plonked on top of the model, it just looks like a collage. eg this screenshot

I own and am thrilled with my hotd3 purchase!!!!!...Actually Krudster I feel it's much easier with the gamepad as opposed to the lightgun ( I used the highly accurate but ugly green mad catz blaster/ you guys are also getting the choice of the supposedly best light gun on the market ;forgot the name , it has a lazer scope and actually looks like a gun and not some green futuristic toy thing). Yes the game is shorter (took me I think 5 hours to beat, am I in need of glasses??? everyone else beats it in less than 30 minutes???, maybe jimbo has only one eye...no thumbs...colour blind??? actually, I think the problem here is the unlimited lives you can easily unlock!... without unlimited lives this game is tough! that sloth creature and the plant thing easy .....hahahahaha!. Sega did a disevice to gamers by including the unlimited lives and I suggest if you buy the game don't turn it on! (at least not until the hillarious last boss/ p.s. NO WAY you guys beat that last boss in less than 28 minutes without unlimited lives). Great review 8/10 is the true score!, although I also wish the game were longer 5 hours on the main game is short for me, but all the extras made it still worthwhile for me (new minigames in future please , besides the very short one to the hotd2, and all the hotd2 minigames). P.S. I actually didn't enjoy the game without the blaster! I highly suggest you find the two available to choose from. Very fun has me at the edge of my seat, also rates youre accuracy and skill with a rating like in panzer dragoon orta!. . Maybe for a sequel we can have more branching path levels... all I want is more blam blam goodness (the blam blam is the sound of the gun sending zombies back to their .... wherever they come from!);)

hmmm, sorry Jimbo, I didn't use infinite lives (I used 9) and killed the end boss on my first attempt! I will be getting a Mad Katz gun tomorrow, so I will be reviewing that separately.

9 lives.....killed that freaky last boss in one go.......o.k. Krudster I tip my blaster in youre direction,! I still think that most people will be hard pressed to meet that level of excellence with the blaster, especially if their new to the genre. Do you practise youre aim with some european version of the nra?????. I know I don't suck !!!!!!!..... I think ;0

The sloth was a bit of a git, I must admit. What difficulty level are you playing on, and how many continues/lives are you using? I was playing the PAL version, but I'm not sure that would make a difference.

Hey Krudster, I originally played on the default settings , after that I upped my lives, with the final boss!. I also tried out the rediculously easy unlimited lives for the final boss and through the game after and found that you lose that rush or edge (there is no longer the fear of losing a life, wasn't sitting at the edge of my seat anymore!!)by cheating with the free lives (except for the insane final boss). The plant boss and the sloth are great and the branching paths do make the game fresh... I must admit the 3/10 score they use at gamerankings hurts (they didn't see that it was a 8/10 for a better price point!!!,especially by seeing you guys really did enjoy this stellar yet shorter game (a clear example of the rediculous ratio caltulation used there!). I'm glad you can skip the cut scenes which were driving me mad after a while especially the girl, in the scene where she pumps her fist!, will be interesting what you think of the light gun from mad katz, which I was very impressed with except for the extremely hideous colour!!!!!(I used it from the length of the cord perfectly).... do you think someone will make proper use of the thumstick on the back...... could be used for walking!!!! bye bye rail shooter.. hello free roaming shooter!!!

Just picked this up for £25 - love these shallow, adrenalin-soaked blasts (though I hope the boss monsters are less annoying than in HOTD2). Considering I've also bought a cheap Crazy Taxi 3 in the last few days (along with the stellar Panzer Dragoon ORTA) I guess I'm turning into an arcade-minded SEGA zealot in my middle-age.

Oh and kudos to jimbo's infectious enthusiasm :)
