Maybe, but I don't so much expect free-form gameplay with this sort of RPG. It can go too far the other way, like in PSO (offline) or Majoras Mask. The fighting system is undeniably brilliant, though I would say I found Skies of Arcadia much more involving.

Story/characters; go for Skies, stats; go for Grandia. Or just buy a GBA like everyone else ;)

No 60Hz and some pretty big borders result in a poor conversion of a great game. Happily, it supports VGA, so I would highly recommend playing this PAL release that way (full screen, full speed, etc).

I see it's now on sale for the PC, was sooooo tempted to pick it up but couldn't really justify it at present... Can anyone tell me on how the PC conversion shapes up?

The linearity is a killer. You reach a new area, "Something's wrong!", find the person who explains the 'wrongness', go to a two level dungeon and fight a boss. Hoorah. Reach a new area, "Something's wrong!", etc...

Also it is INSANELY easy, unless you try to avoid as many random encounters as possible and then the boss fights are challenging (and a lot of fun).

Oh, and the voice acting went all over the shop when I played it through VGA - hopefully that's fixed for the PC version.

Put this great combat engine in a more involving game!!!
